I think he left that out on purpose. It gives him "an out" later.
Did anyone look to see if his fingers were crossed?

I hope he was j/c on me,....so I'm not about to make a big deal of it,...but you have at it !!

The other side of the coin is, I once flubbed an oath at a young 2ndLt's commissioning ceremony, and it was caught on tape. I was embarrassed, but it didn't "invalidate" the oath. The man is a LtCol these days,...and Obama is the President. No big deal.

Did he report for work yet,....??

Maybe the Justice flubbed up because he was interrupted by Obama during the first line. When you are interrupted, it kinda makes you lose your train of thought.

They both screwed up, and it really doesn't matter.

I honestly don't care, and it doesn't mean anything. It just annoys me knowing how Bush would have been killed for doing the exact same thing.

This is an awesome site...and a complete 180 compared to Bush's inauguration. Like they just said on CNN "There are no partisan politics today."

You are partially correct... because in Bush's first inauguration, the Gore camp was still under the impression they had been cheated and wouldn't stop whining about it and in his second they realized that they had a beatable President and they ran John Freakin' Kerry who was just awful and they lost again...

Obama won fair and square.. good for him... partisanship will resume at its regularly scheduled time tomorrow.

PresidentObama blew it....he wanted it read 2 words at a time while Roberts was doing it much like justice Stevens did for the VP.

And President Obama didn't say protect....he said preserve and defend.

No big deal though....he's going to make bigger flubs than that.

It was Chief Justice Roberts who made the mistake not President Obama

While CBS seems to agree with you, I do believe It was the President that stumbled and our Chief Justice then followed. In addition, President Obama then left out a small part of the oath after the stumble. No biggie. One of the commentators stated that it shows that he is human. Probably the best analysis from CBS in a long time.

The comment from CBS about folks being glad that former President Bush was leaving as he flew away was out of place. Show some freaking decorum. A Toles political cartoon along the same line (in the Dispatch yesterday) was equal repugnant. I shouldn't be surprised by the contempt of some, but it disgusts me none the less. Only history will be an adequate judge of his legacy and I would not be surprised if he is looked upon in a different light after some things come to bear. Regardless though, civility is a virtue some partisans will sadly never realize.

I thought the President's address was thoughtful, although when translated to policy I will probably support little. It came across to me as almost a State of the Union address. I could be wrong, it is just the way it sat with me.

Why look it up and let facts get in the way? Some of us have been dealing with this for 8 years.

Bush blew up the the WTC, the Government flew the plane into the Pentagon, Bush blew up the levies in N.O. and Katrina was his all his fault... Bush knew about 911 attacks, but let them happen...his policies made global warming, he's conspired with his oil buddies to get oil to $149 /bl, he's responsible for the mortgage crisis...yada yada yada...I'm surprised he's not responsible for the Steelers going to this years Superbowl.

There, I fixed it for you

CNN saying that is a freakin joke. Did the reporter actually say it with a straight face?

The memo has officially gone out within CNN and MSNBC that the phrase, ".. as a result of the divisiveness of the Bush Administration...." will henceforth be replaced with, "... as a result of the Congressional Republicans attempting to defeat the Presidents sound initiative..."

I think they threw each other off. Chief Justice paused just long enough for President Obama to think it was his turn to speak. President Obama starts to speak at the same time as the Chief Justice. It throws off the Chief Justice as he wasn't prepared for that. Then the President gets thrown off.

Fox News just said that Chief Justice should really have brought his notes with him, as CJ Renquist always did.

Roger that,....

But when you're always 4-12 (at least, 2 of the last 3 or worse), it's easy to do.

I try not to blame,...but I do want it fixed. The Oath has been delivered; it's valid and it's done.

Get to work, Mr. President.

We had large TVs set up on campus today, and some people in the crowd (well ok, most) jeered and said insulting things when they were introduced as well as when President Bush flew away on Executive One. It isn't right, and the people who do that while pretending to work for a united country are complete hypocrites.

LMAO. Give it time. I won't mention any names, but there are a few DawgTalkers that may work up such a story.

Besides, I did see the back of a Steeler jacket in the crowd. Probably a spy for the out going adminstration.

I wasn't able to keep sound on the whole time (working at the same time as watching the Inauguration). If true, those people should be ashamed of themselves. Like him or not, Former President Bush served this country faithfully and to the best of his ability. And he should be givent he respect due to his station in life. I may not have agreed with A LOT of what the previous administration did, but I cannot see the point in booing the man as he leaves office!

WOW! This minister giving the invocation before the luncheon has a deep, booming voice (almost James Earl Jones-like)

Calm down DC...it's a proud day for you. Don't get in a huff over something goofy like that.

I look at it like this...goof or not....it happened before he was officially President, so he still has a clean slate......but did you see the way he signed those documents....not a good sign.

I wouldn't have put it past Ammo to boo, even while he was saying this is the most united we have ever been.

It really is a shame that we have to bicker about this crap on such a historic day. Afterall, it's not Obama that is being stupid, it's his supporters who praise his positive message while spilling out their own hate. Ammo, you reading?

All the more reason to avoid network news. I am confident that there is a conservative base that votes and thereby will help to bring some sanity to some liberal initiatives.

On the other side I have no doubt that Rush will have fun with President Obama's flub of the oath.

Ultimately neither media "outlet" is relevant.

I agree. Obama seemed genuinely cordial and very thankful to Bush for the advice given during the transition period. I wish more of Obama's supporters would do the same.

Just an FYI, just saw a replay of it on Fox News and he said "preserve, protect and defend"

No big deal in the grand scheme of things...both the President and the Chief Justice had errors...as long as it's not a portent of things to come...

I think the Presidents own supporters and party are going to be his biggest headache.

When they finally realize he can't be Robin Hood and take from the rich to give to the poor, lot's of people are going to be ticked.

You know Pdawg,
Over time, my thoughts on Bush have generally changed a bit. I do not agree with the whole "he is stupid, moron..etc", but that he had people around him advising him into wrong or bad decisions. That usually causes bad results in football, business.. all the way up to President. If you do not have good people around you, no matter how decent you are, your goal or whatever will not be met. Every person I have met here in DC that has been around Bush always talks about how decent a person he is. Maybe not as knowledgeable to know when he was getting bad advice. Oh well, new Pres in office and after tonight, alot of work to do!!!

Not to mention that Obama seems to be setting himself up to run the country more from the center. Just look at all his nominees. It's pretty much Clinton 3.0.

Before the election people were stating that the reason Obama ran with the crowds he did was that is how he could get elected from the Chicago area. With the way he has started out since he was elected it appears to me that he might just be a pragmatist.

Coming from the right side of the aisle makes happy. Those from the far left (the people who got him elected over Hillary) will not be happy. That makes very happy.
