I didn't vote for Obama, but I hope he our greatest President ever!! I wish him the best while in office - I know he will give it his all. You have my support Mr. Prez.

It's funny - I can compare Obama to the Steelers in that I don't really dislike either THAT much...it's the fans of both that annoy the heck out of me.

What I'd like to know is how 1.5 million people were able to afford to go to D.C.for the ceremony. Right now I'm disconnecting my home phone and looking at any way I can reduce bills. I'm by no means poor, but still very nervous about finances. Any kind of trip for me or my family right now is out of the question. I even have to give up my Browns season tix.

Not to mention that Obama seems to be setting himself up to run the country more from the center. Just look at all his nominees. It's pretty much Clinton 3.0.

Before the election people were stating that the reason Obama ran with the crowds he did was that is how he could get elected from the Chicago area. With the way he has started out since he was elected it appears to me that he might just be a pragmatist.

Coming from the right side of the aisle makes happy. Those from the far left (the people who got him elected over Hillary) will not be happy. That makes very happy.

That makes me very happy too.

We can't have partisan politics in this country anymore.

One of the reasons I was so anti-Bush (and Hillary for that matter) was because they represent the absolute worst of those kinds of politics.

You sure about that....The man hasn't even been Pres. a full day yet and is getting blasted for messing up in a speech and doubted by quite a few folks.

You know Pdawg,
Over time, my thoughts on Bush have generally changed a bit. I do not agree with the whole "he is stupid, moron..etc", but that he had people around him advising him into wrong or bad decisions. That usually causes bad results in football, business.. all the way up to President. If you do not have good people around you, no matter how decent you are, your goal or whatever will not be met. Every person I have met here in DC that has been around Bush always talks about how decent a person he is. Maybe not as knowledgeable to know when he was getting bad advice. Oh well, new Pres in office and after tonight, alot of work to do!!!

He has an enormous job ahead of him. I think his finacial policies he wants to enact are not good, but I think there is a postive in all of this.

He does bring an air of hope to the country. Consumer confidence drives the economy in many ways. The first step is to make people believe the future will be better. All of the negativity does do damage to our economy. Maybe this will be the start of good things to come.

I was thinking that earlier also. A lot of the people there that they interviewed were going on about how they were struggling, losing their homes, etc., and I thought.....how do you have enough money to travel across the country for this little party?

If you supporters are going to have this hard a time with a little good natured ribbing, that was brought on by how the last president was treated by a certain side, you are going to have a loooong 4 years ahead of you.

Heck....he's been in office about 2 hours now...They were supposed to hit the ground running.

I can see already this isn't going to work out.

I don't think anyone (me) is having a hard time with it. I think he will definately be under a huge microscope. All I am saying is give him a chance, much like our new coach, before all the negativity.

Just saw Bush's plane take off, back to civilian life and Texas, where he belongs. That was all I really wanted to see.

Try not to choke on any pretzels out there, buddy.

It's my opinion that the American system of government is corrupt and broken, and has been for a very long time...it's near impossible to be a member of it without engaging in some very scrupulous and pig-headed activity.

There have been many politicians that I thought were good and intelligent men...but no one can stay that way in our system, lest they be mocked or voted out. It seems the only way to rise above the fray is to be seated on the Supreme Court, where one is free to think for themselves and a great deal of our country's most profound changes have taken place.

In a way you are right.

Anytime the public starts voting on things, it is bound to get gummed up.

Just go to a pro wrestling match and start to think that those same people are actually voting on who our leaders should be.....pretty scary really..

Profound changes,...?? You mean when they flip-flop every other decision based on who or what party appointed them ??

They're no better than the others that are in power,...that is, they make no better decisions.

Granted their decisions ARE profound,...but the flop is always in the next card,....just like poker.

Don't get me wrong,..I'm agreeing with you. They are ALL complete BS.

MSNBC.com has that it MAY be both Kennedy and Byrd that were rushed to the hospital, but no details yet (at least online).

Not to rain on your parade but while you may be free to judge freely on the Supreme Court....the Congress has the infrequently used power to restrict certain kinds of cases heard by the SCOTUS .

Yea,
Roberts blew it,
Obama DID say all three preserve, protect and defend - does your tv work.. you do know they make a device called TIVO these days!!.. but maybe you didn't bring your notes either!

And Pres Obama will actually make mistakes, he will not need to take on others mistakes!

Man, Dog...if you are this protective protective of this guy the first day you may be worn out before his cabinet is approved.

I wish Obama and all America well but to think that his future policies shouldn't be questioned is silly!

Yes, but as you say, it's infrequent.

The Supreme Court, for better and worse, have the cajones to make the big calls that the other branches are fearful to. There may have been a lot of legislators who agreed with Brown vs. Board, but never in a million years would they have voted it in if it came their way. In a lot of areas of the country, it would've been political suicide.

I'm not saying that The SC is some beacon...I'm just saying not having to pander to the dolts increases the odds of getting it right. It has it's downsides, as well...

Good take,..I can hang with that. If there WAS a branch you could hang your hat on, it would be The Court, rather than these other two bunches of monkeys.

Maybe the Founding Fathers had one there, huh ??

With all due respect Clem, I will withhold my own historic celebration of this momentous occassion of "who we are as Americans" until a few years from now. If he works to reduce spending, then I will celebrate. If he works to reduce government waste, then I will celebrate. If he works to keep us on the offensive against terrorists, then I will celebrate. If he doesn't sacrifice jobs to the rest of the world over the environment, then I will celebrate. If he leaves the second amendment in tact, then I will celebrate. If he works to change the tone in DC, then I will celebrate. If he doesn't raise my taxes, then I will celebrate...."

I hear you, DC... and I understand your (very pragmatic) points. On these issues, we don't disagree at all. I also support your right to suspend judgement of the new POTUS until events unfold. It shows that you are a temperate and thoughtful person.

I suspect that we are talking across my original intent, however. My original post was in response to Damanshot's question regarding the importance of the day, primarily from an ethnic standpoint. The intent of my response (and my original post which I quoted) was to illuminate my general impressions from the ethnic/historial wiewpoint. My post was aimed not at Barack Obama's perceived virtues, but the actions of the people who placed him at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

In short- we were talking about two different subjects.

In my post, I was talking about the way in which ordinary people actually involved themselves personally in the national political process... and how that collective individual effort propelled Barack Obama into the presidency. Within that narrow framework, it's nothing short of amazing... and a testament to what American citizens can do when they put their minds to it.

To boil it all down: I was talking about US... the citizenry of the U.S. The Process that we all know as the American Political Construct works well enough for the will of the people to overcome one of the most divisive and polarizing issues that has plagued our country since it's inception.

In my post, I said, "if we can do this, we can do anything."

In your post, you outlined a series of well-thought-out and common-sense concerns/considerations that every intellegent American should have at this time. Trust me, I share every single one of them with you.

Today, I took a moment to truly celebrate this milestone acheivement. My moment had almost nothing to do with our nation's current challenges, what sacrifices we must make as citizens, or the hard choices that we must make in the coming months and years. It had everything to do with an issue we chose to overcome during this past election cycle. We shouldn't underestimate it's importance- It was a Big One in this nation's 'bio.' For that, I took a moment to celebrate.

But trust me- it was just a moment, DC. The rest of the time I spent listening... and weighing- just like you.

I think we are of similar mind when it comes to our country's immediate future. (Dang! That outta scare some folks, shouldn't it?)

I just wanted to clear up where I stood in my earlier post.

p.s. I too hope (like other posters have mentioned) that he's the best President we've ever had... now would be the perfect time for such a man. We'll see.

I'm in the same boat. My tickets for next year are in jeopardy too. We have had a terrible year and my tax refund that pays for the tickets has to go towards utility bills that we have fallen way behind with.
I hope it works out for you to keep them. Maybe you can downgrade? If I remember right you are in the club lvl,,no?

I thought about downgrading, but I really need my tax refund this year to go towards some cc debt. What's ironic is it's my Browns Visa (Bank of America) that is screwing me up. I made one payment late (by like a day) and then one invoice they sent got lost somewhere in the mail - I never received it and didn't realize it. So after many, many years of being a GREAT customer they punished me by raising my interest to some ungodly rate and just about tripled by minimum monthly payment. I'm so pissed about it.
