How about the DE for Dallas- think its Canty. Do they make a run at him. Its a need. One guy with a blown Achilles and one guy with a big mouth who talks smack better then he plays--- that might be an area to upgrade.

For sure... I see lots of more talent in the draft than talent in free agency.
Plus, you get to sign draft picks at a cheaper price, atleast after the 2nd round for sure. Free agents are looking for huge deals. Some earn it, some don't.
Now at what cost can we get more draft picks, who sign at a cheaper price, and who are really motivated to make a name for themselves in the NFL.

Were not gonna sign any top name players, We will wait until the mad signing period is over and see who's left to plug up holes and see if there price is reasonable.
Saddly I dont expect much from this new FO group. I have no expectations and am not looking forward to another year of disapointment, and so far there is nothing being shown to us Browns fans it's gonna change.
Wins on the field is the only thing thats gonna bring back my confidence in this organization. Saddly for me this is a gloomy period and I dont see any hope on the horizen for my Browns

You know Ammo, that's a good question. Maybe that's why they make big name signings and still struggle because they can't afford to have anyone else of quality.

Ravens lose Scott to Jets; Lewis gone, too? Posted: February 27th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Baltimore Ravens, Bart Scott, New York Jets, Ray Lewis
As if it weren’t bad enough to lose linebacker Bart Scott, now the Ravens are in serious jeopardy of losing free-agent linebacker Ray Lewis, too.
Sources close to Lewis were adamant Friday that one of the game’s greatest defensive players will not return to Baltimore and his career with the team is over.
For some reason, Lewis has been rubbed the wrong way in the lengthy negotiations that have occurred between he and the Ravens. Now, Lewis is determined to move on, even if there is no obvious suitor.
The Jets are expected to spend about $8 million per year on Scott, the Dallas Cowboys have insisted they will not be signing any high-profile free agents, and there are no other teams that, at the moment, jump out as potential landing spots for Lewis.
Thus, one of Lewis’ confidants was asked if it were possible that the Ravens now could change their linebacker’s mind. “Not if you knew Ray like I knew Ray,” was his response. He even mentioned retirement as a possibility ahead of returning to Baltimore and insisted it was not a negotiationg ploy. “That’s Ray,” the source said.
For now, Lewis plans to take a couple of days, ponder his plans and then come up with his gameplan. But his gameplan now does not include the Ravens, according to those who know him. Thus Baltimore could wind up losing Lewis to another team or retirement, Scott to the Jets, center Jason Brown to the Rams (Brown is scheduled to visit St. Louis) and cornerback Corey Ivy to the Jets.
Change came to this country in January and it looks like it’s coming to Baltimore as well.

Snyder’s stimulus plan Posted: February 27th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Albert Haynesworth, DeAngelo Hall, Washington Redskins
In a five-hour span from the moment free agency kicked off, the Washington Redskins provided their own stimulus to the economy.
Washington doled out a stunning $156 million worth of contracts — $100 million to free-agent defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and another $56 million on free-agent cornerback DeAngelo Hall.
At 5:45 a.m. ET, without going to sleep, Washington officials still were gathered at their offices, reliving the Haynesworth negotiations and drawing up the paperwork on the deal that will have the rest of the league abuzz.
One year after the Redskins, remarkably, failed to sign a single notable unrestricted free agent, they made up for it in a stunning way.
They signed the top player in this year’s market. The deal is breathtaking, and will reverberate around the league the way the Alex Rodriguez contract did in baseball.
Haynesworth received more guaranteed money than any NFL player. He received more money than any NFL defensive player. He tried sacking the idea that we are in a recession.
The deal will come with its own inherent set of expectations and pressures. Everyone will be watching Haynesworth and expecting him to produce like the $100 million man that he is. He will be added pressure not only to himself but Redskins coach Jim Zorn, who will be expected to guide his team to the playoffs for all the money that has been invested in it.
At the start of free agency, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder ponied up. He will demand his team does the same.

Patriots reach agreement with ex-Jet Baker Posted: February 27th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Chris Baker, New England Patriots
One of football’s top rivalries got a little spicier Friday when New England reached agreement with former New York Jets tight end Chris Baker.
Earlier this month, the Jets released Baker rather than pay him the $9 million option bonus payment that was due to him in early March. At the time, the 29-year-old Baker said he was open to re-signing with the Jets and would like to return. But when New England called, and Baker heard the Patriots’ offer, he liked that idea better.
New England believes it is getting a player who had a career-high 41 catches in 2007, more than the player who caught only 21 passes for 194 yards and no touchdowns last season, when Baker lost some of his playing time to rookie first-round pick Dustin Keller.
Now, another player in a long line of them — Curtis Martin, Ty Law, Vinny Testaverde to name a few — has changed teams in the Border War. Baker is going to be a Patriot.
And as one Jets fan just texted me when he heard the news, “Whenever Pats pick up a former Jet, I get a pit in my stomach.”

While Bart Scott might have been a good pickup for us, I'm glad he's not going to be with the Rats anymore. If we're not going to sign someone, I'm glad our division rivals are losing important people.

Wilson will remain with Texans Posted: February 27th, 2009 | Adam Schefter | Tags: Eugene Wilson, Free Agency 2009, Houston Texans
Last year defensive back Eugene Wilson sat on the free-agent market for weeks. This year, he sat on market for hours. Wilson reached agreement on a three-year, $11.3 million with the Houston Texans. Wilson played well this season, Houston did not want to lose him, and it kept its man.

Wouldn't it be ironic if Lewis really wanted to screw them and ended up here!
I'm not advocating we pay what he'll likely want, but it would be interesting.

That is a fantastic deal...now Wilson has had more severe injury issues than Sean Jones, but that should be where we begin our negotiations with him. And with Gibril signing for just over $5mil/year, I actually have a good feeling about us not overpaying to keep him (i was thinking about $4.5mil/year was about right...and it still looks that way).

Thinking about it, Ray Lewis might be what we really need. Esp. if we can get some penetration from the OLB position too.
Yeah, I'd be fine with signing Lewis..........3 year deal or something

Why would we want Ray Lewis here? Seriously, I still don't understand the whole Dallas thing. The guy complained the entire time they were utilizing a 3-4 and now he wants to go play in Dallas' 3-4? I guess the money does the talking.

I tend to agree with you here. We probably will end up getting some 40-yr old "Has Been" like Ty Law, that Mangini feels obligated to. Did we even tender any offers to our free-agents? I hope we don't lose Jones because he feels "Unwanted" here JMHO Go Brownies!!!!

x2..... I was hoping to make a run at Foxworth but 7 mil a year...totally not worth it for a non proven starter. Too much of a risk.

You could be right, but what potential starters are out there for us?
Keep an eye on Eric Barton.
We need someone to take over for the departed Andra Davis, and Barton is a borderline starter who's better than Davis, comes from the Jets, and knows the 3-4.
He's not great, but he's a filler.

Baltimore is still the most likely landing spot.

Eric Barton? There has to be a better option. If we're going after a 32yo ILB,might as well go for Lewis, not gonna get much out of either one.

If we're gonna go with either, we may as well get neither one and just suck it up and grow some youth in those spots this year.

I have no problem with Barton. He's not a stud but he's better then Davis, he won't cost an arm and a leg, and he's an insurance policy in case we can't get Curry in the draft. We can't fix every hole in one off season.
