I agree. It also seems to me that the press was stoking the fire with their covering of the story. IMO, Kokinis probably called Rogers and smoothed things over. Stroked his ego and made nice with him. But according to this it wasn't Mangini demanding anything from him as far as the weight thing, just a lower teir coach. So all the crap about Napolean can thrown out. Big Baby got his apology and Mangini got his NT...all is good. I never thought it was about money, if you are implying that, I saw it more as ego vs. ego. But in the end it appears that the alleged snubbing was the root of it all. Rogers just marked his spot, like a dog does, hope he's happy now because come TC he's not going to be

Of course they would not admit it was about money. But by this time you would assume that something regarding a new contract would have leaked if that is really what Rogers was after.
Since it hasn't I have to assume that Rogers's primary goal was not a salary grab. Not to say it hasn't entered his mind by now, though.

Just wondering,, has he shown up yet? I mean, I know this isn't mandatory but it would seem that this is a good time to meet the new boss, sit down, hash out any differences that may exist..

I don't think he has shown up yet.......Also, I don't think that it is a quincidence that just about the time Haynesworth was getting his big fat check, is when Rogers all of the sudden became 'mad" at Mangini....IMO, Rogers and his agent are just using this as a smokescreen to hide the real fact that he wants a new contract.......now, does he deserve it...sure he does...he is every bit of the player that Haynesworth was last year, but he needs to play out his contract......Didn't Clevelnad re-do his contract when they traded for him...????

I was wondering the same thing,...voluntary or not, this is supposed to be the "highest" level of professionalism. It WILL affect the way he plays ball this year, in my opinion.

I agree, but you will see many grand Poohbaas of the board disagreeing with you.. And intersting, you will see that the very thing you look at as coincedence, they don't see that way... They'll tell you the timing doesn't fit.
As if it wasn't pretty obvious that Haynesworth was going to get a whooper of a deal somewhere!

I was just wondering why he hadn't shown up if for no other reason than to shake hands with his new coach and coaching staff and especially his new DC.

Not accordiing to Kokinis.. Supposedly there was a memo that went out. Not sure if it went out to all the players or just Rogers.. (I'd find it odd if it just went out to Rogers)
But Kokinis says no.. so.. I guess is comes down to what you wanna believe.

Actually, it can. The reason is pretty simple. Rogers and his agent would have to be really stupid not to be able read some tea leafs and see that haynesworth was gonna get a big contract.
How big wasn't known when this whole thing supposedly started with that sports related gathering that Mangini ignored Rogers at.
Then shortly thereafter, Haynesworth gets a deal worth a ton of loot and that's when you saw a slight spike in anger level and some animosity reported by the media between the team and Rogers.. stuff like that letter that was supposed to have gone out on the weight thing.
So, while if you look at a calender of events, the time line appears off. But only if you assume that both Rogers and his agent are idiots..
I don't need to tell you what generally happens when you assume things do I?

Jesus, let me guess....you two still think someone was on the grassy knoll....... Look, no mention of anything monetary has been mentioned anywhere but here. So you're telling me that the Browns, who have no problem leaking info when it suits their purposes, haven't said a word about Rogers even gently hinting about a new contract out of the kindness of their souls? Not because he hasn't said anything yet. Naw, that can't be it. Additionally, think what you want about the Haynesworth contract but NOBODY thought he was gonna get $40 million guaranteed. And I'm sure Rogers's agent doesn't hold any illusions that Shaun is worth more than even a quarter of that. At least not to this team at this time. Now, will he want a new deal if he gets traded. Yep, I'm reasonably sure he will if that happens. But at that point I don't give a damn.

Nah...one can simply get PO'd and then blow up about the littlest of things.
Which would you class as the littlest thing and which something to get PO'd about.
100million dollar man or I was in the same building as the new coach and he didn't go out of his way to look me up???
And what I was saying was not a contradiction...I think one was a REACTION as opposed the One being an ACTION. Going to Kokinis and demanding a redo is Action....blowing up and having it come out 2nd hand with rumors and no interviews is possibly a Reaction.
Either way Action...or simply Reaction I think it had to do with $$$$ not Some Principles.

That is all well and good. But there is nothing to back any of that up except for your gut reaction......
And as I recall the last time someone had a gut reaction most of the people on here spent the better part of the next 3 years making fun of it. Just saying......

Not sure about the Grassy knoll thing, but what I don't believe is that even a expert marksman could fire three shots from that distance with a bolt action rifle in that short a span of time and still be dead on target with all three shots.. A moving target no less.
In fact, it's been tested and retested and no expert marksman has been able to duplicate that feat., Yet, the Warren Commission still says it was a lone gunman.. Oswald was reported to be an expert Marksman but no better than the guys that tried to dupicate his reported actions.
go figure,, someone not telling us the whole story,,, might be the first time right

Which browns,, the FO we have now, or the one we had just before? Out of this one, you get NOTHING... No hints,, Bubkis...
What you get out of this regime is that anyone that talks or leaks, gets fired. or so it seems.

Additionally, think what you want about the Haynesworth contract but NOBODY thought he was gonna get $40 million guaranteed.
The amount doesn't matter as long as it was significantly more than Rogers was slated to get. and it was clear that it was gonna be considerably more.. the exact amount he got has no bearing on the theory.. NONE.

How can you be sure of that? Again the actual dollars aren't important, only that it exceeded Rogers contract by some significant amount. hell, I think the average fan could figure that it was gonna be a lot more..
As far as what Rogers is worth to this team, when did reality matter to an agent?
But to be fair, I gotta agree with you on one thing, I don't think anyone would have thought that haynesworth would get that big a payday.... I don't think anyone saw that number coming.. big,, yes, more than Rogers contract, for sure, but 40 mill guaranteed.. wow,,

Shaun Rogers working out in Browns complex by Mary Kay Cabot Tuesday March 24, 2009, 7:28 PM
Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers is participating in the Browns off-season program this week after skipping last week's opening sessions while he resolved his differences with coach Eric Mangini.
Raw video of the Browns off-season program on clevelandbrowns.com Tuesday shows Rogers being greeted enthusiastically by teammates such as fellow defensive lineman Robaire Smith, who is coming back from a ruptured Achilles tendon that caused him to miss most of last season.
Rogers is seen shaking hands with another teammate before starting his workout. The video comes a day after Browns General Manager George Kokinis said at the NFL owner's meetings that Rogers and Mangini had a "good conversation." He also said, "The communication is ongoing now and I think that's being cleaned up."
Kokinis said Rogers intended to fulfill "his contractual obligations," and that "whatever weight" he wanted to play at was fine with Kokinis because he dominated last season.
Rogers, who made his third Pro Bowl last season, had been miffed about two perceived snubs by Mangini and a mandate to show up for the off-season program in shape. He asked the Browns to release him and not pay him his $6 million bonus due last week, but the Browns made it clear they had no intentions of doing so. Apparently, the matter has been resolved or is well on its way to being settled.

OK, this either means that I was wrong, or a new contract will be announced at some point.. If I'm wrong, then I couldn't be happier in one respect.,, on the other hand, if it wasn't money, then it sounds like Rogers was just being a baby about things..

I see what you're thinking, but I'm not sure anyone really knows,...I affirm that I am speculating, as does everyone on this Board.
As for The Grassy Knoll,...I was a six-time rifle 'Expert' in the Marine Corps. That's one classification higher than Oswald's 'Sharpshooter.' There is NO WAY that my marksmanship training would have prepared me for that stunt, in and of itself. That doesn't mean Oswald didn't do it, OR, that there was not a GK shooter, but it does prove that alone, Marine Corps training did not put Oswald in a position to do what they say he DID because of it,....that is pure BS on the Warren Commission.
Sorry for the hijack,...but I think Rogers is hijacking the Browns. So be it.

It could still mean it was about the money and Rogers came to the conclusion of the futility of the situation knowing the new management was playing hardball and decided to get back to work, or he's simply using the Browns training facilities to get himself into shape while he can for his impending hold-out this summer!

Yup, that also sounds like a possibility,
The one thing I am sure of, is that we will probably never know. All the leakers of inside info seem to be gone from inside the building in Berea. In a way, that's a good thing for the team, but it sure frustrates the hell of some fans.. Me included.

Two things,, 1. if it wasn't money, then Rogers was being a big cry baby..
Or as tulsa pointed out, perhaps it became clear to him and his agent that the new regime wasn't gonna buckle under to any demands he MAY have made.

Yeah, I'm with Daman on this one....I still think that the money was the driver behind this whole thing.....maybe he came back due to incentives in his contract about off season workouts or whatever.....You take a look at last season and compare Haynesworth and Rogers.....I have to go with Rogers as far as being the most dusruptive and most valuable to their respective teams....so you mean to tell me that Rogers wouldn't have a reason to want more money....I know I would...and what better way to do it than to try and make it look like your new coach gave you the cold shoulder, pretend lilke your upset....and hope that the way the team decides to dry your tears is to give you a big fat raise.......Well, anyways.....it doesn't really matter anymore....Welcome back Shaun.......it's great to have him back before the Draft.....now let's get this show on the road..........

So to sum up......It was all about money even though none of the participants mentioned money. Even though everything appears to be fine now and there has been no mention of a new contract. Even though the Browns have been cutting salary left and right they are secretly redoing Shaun's contract and no one has found this out yet. You are right even though there is absolutely no evidence to support that. That about it? And guys....there was no one on the grassy knoll and Oswald did it. Even if you don't believe it..........

Not knowing what to really believe about either the Knoll or Rogers/Mangini is a pure function of the actual facts. Without that/those, leaves doubt.
I believe Oswald was involved, and was a patsy. The Magic Bullet is what tears me up,....Rogers fired his (unknown to this point) and it went astray. I'm leaving it at that. The "truth" will be revealed in how Rogers performs.

If he did show up last year (??), changing his interpretation of voluntary would be a bogus error in judgement on his part. "Something-else-to-do" is an excusable event, if one requests permission. The aura of this situation probably prevented that. Again, since we don't know, I'm content to just let it die.

I agree to just let this drama end. Who knows, he could end up on the board here and start crying about what he feels are slights from the fans. Nobody would know why he was so upset, but he would want out of here - because of us!

D, with all due respect intended, you have absolutely nothing to base an opinion on that says this was about money. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. The flipside is that we have NUMEROUS stories stating why Rogers felt snubbed, stories that were confirmed by the GENERAL MANAGER.
Last but not least, you appear to be surprised that Rogers was a "big baby" in all this mess. I mean.............C'MON Hehehe. That attitude is the one that allowed us to land him in the first place.
"Don't be so quick to judge."
That's good advice, considering I'm basing my "judgement" facts while your's is nothing but pure speculation based on not one fact.
That sounds harsher than I intend, but this isn't about money, and though it's over, you still want......WANT.......to believe it was about money. It wasn't, it's over, time to move on.

maybe he came back due to incentives in his contract about off season workouts or whatever.....
You can't be docked a bonus for not showing up to a VOLUNTARY PROGRAM.
That's another "grasping for straws" theory debunked

so you mean to tell me that Rogers wouldn't have a reason to want more money....I know I would...
How convenient That, my good man, is called SPIN, and I'm not gonna let you get away with it *L*
No, you and others want this to BE about money. Yet now you're spinnin' it to suggest who wouldn't WANT more money. Every player in the league WANTS more money, but not every conflict is because it's ABOUT money.
Don't spin.

Well, anyways.....it doesn't really matter anymore....
Keep that ideal in mind

So to sum up......It was all about money even though none of the participants mentioned money.
I'll say this again so that even you could understand it..
Did you really expect it to come out that money talks were involved?
And as for the Grassy knoll and oswald,, you are among the minority of informed americans that think he did it alone. Too much physical proof has been brought out to at least cause question..
Third, did you really think I would back down on my beliefs on rogers?
