Bad move by the Bears IMO. If they were a piece away, I'd agree with it, but they aren't there. Their defense is getting older and worst, and their offense just isn't very good. The QB position was far from the only thing keeping them from being good. Now they have no first rounders the next two years.

i'd say the fact that we almost did the trade shows that we didn't name the qb competition for the sake of driving up DA's value, as much as many here hoped would be the case. it shows there really is a level playing field for DA and quinn and that we can expect a fair, unbiased, qb competition if both are on the team come tc.

The Bears will be fine...
1) They are in the NFC... That road to glory for whatever reason seems to be a littler easier on that side...
2) They are normally pretty close in games... w/ a QB... !! They will be okay. Cutler will open up the pass, and that in turn w/ help Forte...

i don't think it's a good move for them either...
cutler ain't a bad qb, better than anything the bears have had in a while...
but, let's think about what cutler did have in denver... 2 good receivers, a solid tight end, and a coach with a very sharp offensive mindset (who ended up getting fired anyways)
devin hester is now his number 1 receiver. a guy who can't correctly run a route.
their offensive line is old, and weak. and the defense ain't exactly a group of spring chickens...
i think jerry angelo is a decent gm, but i think this is going to be his undoing.
the chicago media has been pimping cutler all week. but giving away a starting qb and 2 first round picks is a move made for a superstar player, and i don't think the bears got one.
i'm really glad the browns didn't mortgage their future for this guy.
i really don't wanna see us trade any high picks for a very, very long time.

So I guess Quinn could demand the same thing Cutler did then... lol..
The Coach and GM wanted Cutler... TRADE ME!!!
I can't wait til' the draft, and then football season... The off season has almost come to a point where it's just trouble. lol. Teams just try to find ways and sneak around trying to make deals, and then players get upset, they want to be traded... OMG... Just stop it!

So the Broncos get two first rounders two years in a row and a pretty good QB...for Cutler?!
Wow, So that means we should be able to get, at the very least, a high 3rd rounder for DA.
you had a good run Hank.

The Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns were both major players in the race to acquire former Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, sources have informed the National Football Post. While the Bears won the Cutler sweepstakes, we have heard that the Browns and Redskins were in the hunt until the end, ultimately losing out when Chicago offered two first-round picks, in addition to quarterback Kyle Orton.

Yes we should have. I understand why Phil didn't but i thought it was a bad idea at the time and now its probably cost us a quality draft pick.

nah, or at least he won't do so publicly. quinn is too smart to go this route because he knows that, if he did, he'd get his ass shipped to detroit, LOL. i agree but you gotta admit, the offseason is always very interesting for a browns fan

No, it wasn't for you. Hence the "j/c" at the beginning. And again... "j/c" Quote:
Sources around the NFL say the Bears were among the most aggressive teams in pursuit of Cutler, but they were hardly alone. Washington, Tampa Bay, Detroit, Cleveland and the New York Jets all were trying to seal a deal. Cleveland might have been the winner of the Cutler sweepstakes had the player's agent, Bus Cook, not represented Brett Favre and saw the struggles the long-time Green Bay star had with coach Eric Mangini.
Mangini was fired by the Jets and landed in Cleveland. He reportedly was willing to give up Brady Quinn in a deal. Quinn, who played for Charlie Weis at Notre Dame, presumably would have been a good fit in McDaniels' system. But Cook had made it clear when talks began that Cutler wanted no part of Mangini and fears he wouldn't report to the Browns effectively shut down that deal.

Nothing rectifies giving up a franchise quarterback. Chicago did not get robbed here. Its a fair price for a franchise signal caller. Those don't grow on trees. McDaniels really screwed up. Whoever thinks the Bears got robbed really doesn't know footballl.

I'll try, but I'm about to head to dinner with some friends. It's interesting stuff though. First one saying the Browns were the third-wheel in a 3-team deal, now some saying the Browns wanted Cutler for themselves. Both could be true. Browns could have started off as trying to get Cutler, then found out Cutler wouldn't play for Mangini so they switched to being the third-wheel. Who knows for sure, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Wow! helluva trade... but... HOW DOES DETROIT, (with all their draft picks) not vigorously go after Cutler? Two first rounds this year. Big deal!... With Johnson as a go to guy,... man, if nothing else they sell tickets. I guess that's why Detroit is ..... Detroit. Bears made a helluva move. I think It will work for them.

B/c Detroit can get a great QB w/ just ONE first round pick... and give him an LT w/ their 2nd first round pick. Something about those SEC QB's... Peyton Manning.. Eli Manning.. Jay Cutler.. And now Matthew Stafford

I actually LOVE this move for one reason.
The Bears were rumored to be anamored with Larry English with they're first pick. Now they don't have one so the possibility of him falling to us in the second round greatly went up.

Why? What source says so?
Furthermore, why risk alienating your QB's if you're just lowball-fishin' to land a QB?
No dude, you can't play it one way on one side of the table, then the other way on the other side of the table.
If Quinn and Anderson didn't allready know they weren't in good standing, they know it now.
The fans around here now know it too
Quinn can't be very happy (regardless of how a "mature" QB acts, which has absolutely NOTHING to do with happiness). That could be a good thing, as it'll make him work harder for the gig. Same goes for Anderson.
May the best man win.

Woo hoo!!!! Chicago was the one team noone really expected to go after a QB because they have never had a decent QB.
Now there are several teams still in need of a QB and very limited options. #5 and DA looks a whole lot better today than it did yesterday folks.

i was thinking about this on the drive home. what's the MO on cutler? big arm, inconsistent decision making, mobile. DA has 2 of the three and quinn has 1. could it mean that the new regime is willing to take a big arm (with the bad decision making)?
mangini and co makes us think too much.

I've seen that more than once now.
Why?
Teams that were interested in Cutler AREN'T going to be interested in Anderson.
His value hasn't gone up. It's stayed the same.

You have taken the #1 target for QB off of everyones board and he has gone to a team that noone expected to be in play for his services.
That means you still have the same number of teams interested in QBs but one more is off the market. It is all a system of supply and demand.

At this juncture I'm beginning to think if anyone was shipped it will be Quinn.
Before that was just wishful thinking...but his name has popped up in talks with the Donks more than once.
I'd rather we go into the season with both guys...but if one had to leave I'd rather it be Quinn. I think Quinn has more value and DA has more upside.

I am not gonna toot my own horn here but I did mention Chicago in the other Cutler thread page 7. heheh
Although I did not think of the Redskins at all.

There's problems with that line of thinking man.
Sure, same number of teams, as Cutler just switched teams. Problem is, the Donks have essentially made it known they would be after Quinn, not Anderson. We didn't know that about the Bears.
So if anything, that's one LESS team in play for Anderson, even though it's the same number of teams in need of a QB.
So who's left? The Redskins wanted an upgrade by getting Cutler. There's no noise there about getting Anderson or Quinn.
The Bucs, the Lions, the Niners, and the Jets. There are three 1st round QB's in play right now. That leaves one team DURING the draft that may be interested in Anderson.
No Mourg, I don't see it the way you do. If anything, the chances have diminished that Anderson is moved, not increased. Because the Donks need a QB and have shown interest in Quinn, the odds of Brady moving have increased.
I said it before and I see no reason to change my opinion: If one QB is moved, it'll be Quinn as he has more trade value right now than Anderson does.

DA has more upside.
Excuse me, but.......how the hell do you figure that? He's the same guy he was 8 years ago at Oregon State.
He will always throw too many INTs. He will always suck at the short passing game. He will always be relatively statue-like.
But he will always have a cannon arm. And that's what will keep him in the league. But I seriously doubt he'll ever be a consistent winner.
At this point after watching how the boys in Berea operate it would not surprise me to see both Derek and Brady traded. I think Mangini and his Kokinis are all about the picks. As many as they can get. It may not be a bad strategy, who knows........

Well, if we were to trade BQ and DA, it would be a long time before we are contenders again IMO.......Cause that would mean we take Stafford or Sanchez with our 1st pick and personally I don't like either one of them.....

Well, considering that Campbell and Quinn now both know that their teams couldn't care less about having them on the roster a swap might be in order.
Then trading Anderson to someone willing to cough up a decent Draft pick and Bang! a whole new Offense.

That'll never happen because Quinn doesn't have any star-power to catch the eye of Daniel Snyder
Frankly, a trade of Quinn straight-up for Campbell wouldn't bother me one bit. Of course neither would a trade of Anderson for Campbell straight up, but Quinn is the one with trade value, not Anderson.

Jason Campbell just doesn't do anything for me. I've seen him play, and while I don't feel he's an awful QB, I can't see him ever being anything great.
What I want to see is Quinn getting his chance. First year was a learning year. Last year, DA ''earned" his starting position according to Savage, and Quinn got his shot once the team fell apart. Only to get hurt the following game.
I'd like to see what he could do if given the chance to compete, or if handed the reigns, how he'd play knowing he's in control. We haven't really gotten the full chance of seeing that, and I think we need to before just tossing it away.
One thing I don't want to happen is what has happened since this team came back- search for a quarterback. While keeping him doesn't guarantee that he'll turn that around, getting rid of him surely doesn't. We'd start back at square one.
