Drunk Man Drives to Police Station, Demands Breathalyzer Test

COPLEY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Police gave a man a break, but the man landed himself in hot water when he demanded a breathalyzer test.
Copley Police were called to the Steak N Shake Restaurant Friday night to investigate a complaint of an intoxicated, disorderly man annoying customers.
Police Chief Michael Mier says the officers confronted Erik Salmons, 39, of Copley Township. They convinced him to take a cab home and not arrest him for creating a disturbance, but Salmons was apparently unhappy with leaving his truck in the parking lot all night.
An hour later, surveillance shows Salmons driving his daughter's car into the Copley Township police station.
"He demanded a breathalyzer test," Mier said.
Officers obliged.
"Based upon the officer's observation at the Steak N Shake, as well as when he arrived at the station an hour later, it appeared he was too intoxicated to drive," Mier added.
Salmons blew a .123 in the breathalyzer -- nearly double the .08 legal intoxication limit. He was charged with OVI, operating a vehicle under the influence.
Salmons appeared in Barberton Municipal Court Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to OVI. A judge revoked his driver's license for 6 months, ordered him to pay a $375 fine and gave him a 180-day jail sentence. All but three days of the jail time was suspended, however.
Salmons was also ordered to spend the remaining three days in an alcohol-treatment program.
