We need to stick with a coach and let him forge a team with an identity. We haven't done this since 99. We give a coach a few years and as soon as we feel its been long enough--we fire him.
Then we start over.
Then we start over.
Then we start over.
What does this accomplish other than constant turnover and no real shot at establishing anything here in Cleveland.
Butch and Romeo both found a successful season in Cleveland----and then we found some reason to fire them and start over.
What should have happened is we should have stuck with them for a few more seasons. Let them work out the problems, learn what it takes to win consistently in The League.
We need to give a coach a real shot to build something here. Establish an identity for Cleveland Browns Football. Put a system in place that carries over from year to year. Provide a foundation that each rookie class can come into and have a sense of what it means to play here, what is expected, who is in charge, how things are going to operate, what we are striving for.
We have not had this in Cleveland. We keep running through new coaches, new FO, new players, new personnel, new motives, new ideas, new plans, new schemes, etc, etc.
How is any rookie going to come in here and expect to develop properly. Just when things start becoming familiar---we start all over. Just when we start bringing pieces together we ship a bunch of guys out to fit a new scheme brought on by a new coach.
If we can keep the same guys for 5-6 years then we have 5-6 drafts to pick up players and let them develop under the same coaches--with the same schemes. This brings more familiarity with your teammates, with whats expected, with how the schemes work, with the whole franchise.
And suddenly, the team starts to establish an identity.
Until we pick a group of people in the FO, and on the sidelines-----we will never find consistent success in the NFL.
