So my wife refuses to watch scary movies but I had heard that the Ring was a remake of a very successful Japanese flick that was widely lauded. I read some great reviews and made a point to see it in the theatre when it came out. I saw a matinee about a week after it was released on a Friday.
It was about 3pm? and I was the only guy over 18 there. About a dozen kids ranging from 13-16 were there and they were acting like jackballs during the previews and generally acting like teens do.
Then the movie starts....and that scene with the girl in the closet. And that shut them up REAL QUICK. I heard a few crying later in the movie. And blood curdling screaming. They were absolutely terrified.
And somehow that made it even scarier for me. I was solo.
At the end walking out...I've never seen kids look so spent and "ashen". It was hilarious. Then I saw that it was a PG-13 movie. Couldn't believe it. Still can't.
But it has to be my favorite in theatre experience ever.
I already mentioned how Aricniphobia made the whole audience jump at least 3 times.
The one that made me lose the most sleep was Communion. I was a true story played by Cristopher Walken. Not many people seen it or even heard of it but I couldnt sleep because of this movie for a long time. I also remember the movie when I was real young where he could touch people and see the future. Ill watch any mover Chistopher Walken is in.
Im suprised nobody mentioned the Rob Zombie A night of 1000 Corpses. I hate crazy hillbilly movies like that and the new Chainsaw Massacre. Not like Wrong Turn which was still funny.

I haven't thought about that flick for quite awhile, loved it and need to watch it again. Thanks for the reminder.
Even though it's a bad movie Children of the Corn always scared me. Just the sound of Isaac's voice when he kills Malakai makes me turn the sound down.
Either "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" or "The Prophecy". The Prophecy isn't scary to me now, but the first time I saw it it totally freaked me out. Gotta love WALKEN!!!

Communion or the movie he where he touched people and he can see the future. I remember the politician holding the baby up at the end.

Thank you an oldie but goodie. I saw that in the early 80s. Id like to watch it again. Walken is a great actor.
Children of the corn scared my because I lived across the street from a corn field. It didnt scare me as much as watching them spread crap across that fireld on a 90 degree day. They didnt even wear a face mask to mask the smell. I couldnt go outside for three days. When the corn grew that was the fastest I ever rode my bike . Plus the times someone swore they heard something in the corn One day we swore we even heard drums. The corn was fun when we were older. we put 30lbs of corn kernals into a buddies car
I'm just not scared by paranormal or spiritual stuff. Exorcist, this movie, none of it works for me. It's all a magic trick.
The one that made me literally change something about me was "Open Water". Based on many a true tale. I've been diving 5 or 6 times in my life and I've never felt very comfortable with it. I have healthy fear of the ocean and I had actually been diving in Florida Keys a few months before I saw this movie. Saw the movie and I'll never dive again. It's just ruined for me. When she puts her face mask under the water and you see literally hundreds of hammerheads... nope, that was it. And I won't ruin it for you but my god what an ending. I left the theatre literally angry that a movie had just basically ruined something I was just starting to get the hang of.

Quote: I don't know if you guys have heard about Paranormal Activity? The movie terrified midnight audiences. Although the trailer doesn't look very scary
Reminds me of some movie i saw at the drive-in many years ago..the trailer claimed it was so scary you were going to faint unless you kept telling yourself.."It's only a movie, it's only a movie"
Another one actually gave you a "barf" bag upon entering. LOL
For my money, "The Exorcist" still holds top billing.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Count me in as another one that thinks the Exorcist is still the scariest movie ever. Of course, I first saw it when I was WAY too young. Snuck out of my room to watch TV in the middle of the night and flipped that on. I had to be like 10 years old... alone in the dark, watching that. I think I was too scared to make it to the end.
I also saw Pet Cemetary when I was fairly young and thought that was quite scary.
And Blair Witch, I could never get past how they got lost in that woods. That woods looks like my backyard where I grew up. Even without a compass, I just can't understand how someone can get lost in that... it's not like it was some kind of deep brush. Maybe it was more convincing for people that grew up in the city.
Anyway, I've never seen a movie in the theater that came even close to scaring me. I think there's too many people around for me to become immersed in it that way.
I love 'scary movies' Hostel, Saw as much blood and guts as possible!
The one film that made me 'jump' more than any, was watching Strangers at the cinema. It's not really a blood and guts movie but more realistic and creepy, the fact that it was based on true events made it even more creepy!
I'm with you EDog...Hostel, Saw (i own them all and can't wait for halloween and the next one), House of a thousand corpses...good stuff. Turistas ranks up there too. But I would have to say my scariest of all would be Jaws...saw it as a kid and the one scene where the head pops up in the hole in the boat??? ..scared me to death
"I don't want to play golf, when I hit a ball, I want someone else to go chase it" Rogers Hornsby. St. Louis Cardinals (1915-1926)
i was flipping channels the other night while sitting in the dark living room at about 2 in the morning. I think it was called Strangers, I know it had Liv Tyler, and it was about this couple that lived out in the boonies and there was these crazys outside stalking them. I dont get scared by movies because I dont believe in Ghosts, withches, demons or anything paranormal so i cant be scared of that type of thing. I guess things in real life scare me more becaise of that.

Scary movies are a must when there is nothing else to rent... I've never been disappointed by any scary movie. It either makes me laugh (Dr. Giggles, Leprachaun, NightMare On Elm St.) or keeps me on the edge of my seat (Last House On the Left, Saw, Hostel, etc). I'm more a fan of "thrillers" as they are more real to me then a straight up horror flick.
Probably one that hasn't been mentioned yet (was a made to TV flick) that I really enjoyed was "When a Stranger Calls Back". Had some real spooky scenes in it.
Another not mentioned that I think has one of the best scenes ever in it was "Manhunter". The ending with Iron Butterfly blairing is classic. Found it on youtube.... SPOILER ALERT - its the ending scene for the movie.
I loved Blair Witch as I saw it when it first came out and just having the unkown of, is it real, or not... made it a good flick to me. Exorcism I thought was hilarious for some reason. But enjoyed it.... oh and that reminds me of another creepy one... "Omen"... that flicked scared me.
"I'm a mog. Half man, half dog. I'm my own best friend."
Quote: I saw Blair Witch at home by myself, but I didn't know it was fake. I was really freaked out. After I heard it was fake, it didn't scare me at all.
OMG.. Same here.. I was like really scared... OMG.. And exorcist.. for the longest.. until like the age of 20...
if I flipped on the TV and saw that it was on... and then turned the channel.. I was STILL freaked out!! just the fact that it was on TV use to bother me.. especially at night when I was by myself.
I want to see this paranormal activity movie though.. i would probably freak out just because of anticipation alone.
Anyone rmember the X Files episode that had the Peacock family in it! That was a great episode along with the one (i think there were two actually) about Eugene Vincent tombs who lived in the nest and could kinda melt through gaps and air vents.
Then there was the fluke man! Great stuff, suspense at it's best... fun TV!
House of a 1000 corpses was a great one for me. I was a huge White Zombie fan growing up so this is a favorite of mine. Event Horizon and Nightbreed are a few other good ones.

I have it on dvd...one of the funniest movie's ever!
I thought Saw was dumb. To me it seemed really flawed. Cuz of the three guys in the room, one guy---the guy with the gun I believe, is a doctor. Either he has a gun or a bullet. Either way---the "dead" guy in the middle has a gun or bullet (he has the other piece of whatever the doctor has.
Well, at the end it turns out the "dead" guy in the middle was alive all along.
That is ridiculous. There is NO WAY he stays so still as not to flinch with all the crap going on. Plus, the one dude is a DOCTOR, he is going to know if the dude is dead or not!!!
Freaking ridiculous movie.
Strangers was dumb too.
Horror movies always follow the same plot line. Its always some idiots getting picked on by some crazy, sinister, cold-blooded killers. And though the victims always find ways to defend themselves it ALWAYS seems to backfire.
Like they get a gun to protect themself but then panic and unload the clip into one of their friends or something.
Yea, horror movies are dumb.
Everytime I see one I actually want all the morons in the movie to die---cuz they deserve it for being from the planet moropolis.
Its easy----everyone in town starts mysteriously getting slashed to pieces---go to the store and buy a gun, or simply leave town. But the first tactic taken in every horror movie is for everyone to isolate themselves in some lake house or something stupid.
meh.
Horror movies are all dumb.
Those ones by Rob Zombie were weird. I liked those scantily clad chicks with daggers chasing down the dude dressed up like a bunny and disemboweling him as sexily as anyone can be disemboweled.
I just remembered this one movie and wanted to see if anyone else saw it. It was called "The Moth Man Prophesies" It said it was based on a true story and its based in Ohio along the Ohio River. I was wondering just how accurate the movie was since it says it was based on a true story. Did a bridge ever collapse on the Ohio River?

I saw this movie.. I actually enjoyed it.. and those two red lights Richard Greere saw freaked all of my friends out every time we saw some type of red lights.. I think this movie is based on a myth.. just like the lochness monster, or just like people reporting the sight of a UFO... But this one felt more real b/c no one has heard of it.. I know I havent until seeing the movie.
