Oh, I LOVED NewsRadio. WONDERFUL show, but sucked ass after Phil Hartman's untimely death. Jon Lovitz is just no substitute.
Dave Foley also played a gay guy on Will and Grace for a numer of episodes. Kevin MacDonald (of KITH) was on That 70's Show as the church's minister - recurring role. I've seen Scott Thompson on Chelsea Lately.
I know that a couple of them were on SNL a time or two as well.
I know it generated a cult following after it was canceled but I don't think it was well known while it was on.
Yeah, that show was pure genious. I only started watching it after it was caceled and now I have all the dvd's. Leave it to Fox to cancel a show after a couple seasons even though it won more than 2 emmy's.
Boy, talk about little-known shows.... here's one:
G vs. E (Good vs. Evil) 1999-2000
I was a big fan of Richard Brooks from his time on Law & Order (original series) as Paul Robinette, Assistant District Attorney.
After he left, he popped up on this quirky show, which I found fun and entertaining. It was a mid-summer replacement, and only lasted one or two seasons.
The premise: Recently deceased mortals who couldn't automatically gain entrance to Heaven were recruited to be members of The Corps... an earthbound law enforcement unit dedicated to fighting evil. They had 2 jobs: 1. to find mortals who'd made Faustian deals with the underworld and determine whether they were worthy of redemption, and 2. kill evil's footsoldiers, known as Morlocks. Do enough good deeds as a member of The Corps, and you eventually gain entrance to Heaven.
There are caveats, however: You are still mortal. You can die at any minute, just as if you were alive in your former life. No sex or intimate contact with mortals. (Never know when you might be hooking up with a Morlock, you know...) And your former family and friends won't recognize you if they see you (It's for their own protection).
The show is fast-paced, and has a '70's retro, "Pulp Fiction" feel... right on down to the opening credits and Richard Brooks' clothing styles. I was hooked after the first episode.I found it to be very clever and different.... which is rare in TV these days.
The best part was that the show was narrated (and featured short cameos) by Deacon Jones, portraying himself. At the end of each episode, he'd be featured in a spot. These spots were made to resemble training movies that might be shown to rookies just entering The Corps. My faves were: "Morlock Killin' tips by Deacon Jones."
This show f'in cracked me up... and I was sad to see it dumped after just a short time.
Anybody else remember/know of this show?
Positives? Negatives?
p.s. You can find episodes on YouTube, under G vs. E. If you never saw it, and are a fan of tongue-in-cheek humor, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
The opening to Episode One, "Orange Volvo" is here to get you started. Let The Dawg Pound know what you think:
"Life"... was an awesome show. Loved Charlie Crews and Zen applied to a Detective story. Sad to see it go, but not devistated. The final episode of the second season I believe tied everything into a nice bow.
Sons of Anarchy - If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and get ahold of the first season, some real prime stuff there. Sort of like Sopranos in an Outlaw Biker format. It's in the same universe as "The Shield" as the creator Kurt Sutter did both shows. Some really awesome acting from some unexpected people like Katey Segal (Married with Children, Leela on Futurama) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, "Beast" in the Beauty and the Beast show, voice of Slade from Teen Titans). The second season has also brought in Adam Arkin (Ted on the aforementioned "Life" and Adam on "Northern Exposure") who plays a seriously awesome antagonist and Henry Rollins (From the Band Black Flag and Rollins Band).
Sticking with the theme of the thread LITTLE- known shows...
"Pushing Daisies"
Clever, convoluted storylines, fast-paced patter, some risque one-liners slipped in, and a surreal, almost cartoony look. Very strange and addicting show. Dropped by ABC after the writer's strike a few years back, never renewed. A shame.

"Perhaps a skydiver, plummeting to Earth from only 500 ft. No... wait... I can just make out- Oh my God... they're turkeys! Oh the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement!" LMAO

"As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).
Quote: LEXX: The LEXX was a sentient spaceship. It was actually alive .... and followed the orders of whoever possessed the key. (which merged with the person until they gave it up) Oh ... it also had to ingest last quantities of matter for fuel ... so blowing up a moon ...planet .. or asteroid wasn't out of the question when the gas guage ran low. There was the killer love slave .... in love with the undead "divine assassin" who had no emotion, and couldn;t care less about affection, love, or lust .... the captain who was always trying to get rich ... get laid .... or get away ......oh .. and did I mention that there was also a robot .. who was also in love first with the love slave ..... then with the undead guy (while plotting to knock off the love slave "competitor") ...... It was just a strange, weird, and bizzare.
