i'm only 28 so obviously i never got to see jim brown play live, but i have seen a few full browns games from his era and tons of highlight clips and adrian peterson might be the closest thing the nfl has ever seen to jim brown.

size, speed, agility, strength... he has it all. if he can stay healthy and the vikings can take good care of him he can be one of the all time greats.

I had the pleasure of seeing Brown play in person.. Still can't believe some of the moves he put on people.. amazed me at the time and still does.

I wanna see where peterson is after 9 years.. then I'll tell you if he matchs up. One of the things that's important to remember,, Brown never missed a game due to injury in his NFL Career..

I don't think asking him when he's going to jump on the Clausen wagon helped either.

I knew a fellow who had to play against him. He said that Brown wasn't as elusive as he was aggressive. Brown made it a point to deal out as much pain as he could because it tended to make people avoid him. Oh, and that was in training camp. It was kind of a sick rite of passage for rookie defenders to be knocked stupid by him. The observation he made was that it was a personal thing with Brown wanting to dominate everything in his path.

'm not calling Chuckie a liar, just, I'll believe it when I see it. Though, why would you want to get another high stress coaching gig when you can travel the country, watch football, talk about it, AND get paid for it. Seems like a gig you don't give up.

People are forgetting the fact that he is still being paid his contract from Tampa Bay, same as Romeo and Savage.

If he coaches again I believe that ends the money coming from TB, but he will still get paid as long as he is in the booth, at least until his contract is met.

That could very easily be wrong.. I was just looking at NFL.com stats and none are listed. I'm not sure if it's accurate.

edit: definitely wrong

He has a lot of experience, he's respected in the league, and he is not afraid to get in front of the public to talk. I have read he does well in the draft. Just not sure how he is with hiring coaches.

Will some news on this search PLEASE come out? Even if someone tells Lerner, "not in a million years," please just let it be known.

Houston Texans

After leaving the Redskins, Casserly took on the General Manager role for the expansion Houston Texans. With the franchise's first four selections in the 2002 NFL Draft, Casserly drafted David Carr, Jabar Gaffney, Chester Pitts, and Fred Weary.

During Casserly's remaining drafts for the Texans, (2003 through 2006), the Texans drafted five eventual Pro-Bowlers: Andre Johnson (WR, 2003), Jerome Mathis (KR, 2005), DeMeco Ryans (LB, 2006), Mario Williams (DE, 2006) and Owen Daniels (TE 2006). Ryans was also named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2006. Mario Williams, who many criticized for being the #1 overall pick in 2006 (behind rookie standouts Reggie Bush and Vince Young), made the Pro Bowl in the 2008 season.

During Casserly's tenure as GM, the Texans went 4–12 in their inaugural season of 2002, then improved to 5–11 in 2003 and 7–9 in 2004 before slumping to a disappointing 2–14 record in 2005. During the 2005 season, while the Texans were 1–12, team owner Bob McNair hired former NFL coach Dan Reeves to serve as a consultant to help McNair evaluate his team.[4] After the end of the season, head coach Dom Capers was fired by McNair.[5] Casserly was criticized for a number of personnel moves, including trading second and third round picks to the Oakland Raiders for Phillip Buchanon in 2005.[6] Buchanon was a poor player for the Texans in 2005, and was released by the team after the first four games of the 2006 season.[7] In a public interview, McNair criticized the trade for Buchanon, saying that the front office had not done its homework.[8]

Subsequent to the Texans' 2006 NFL Draft and after the Texans' 2-14 season, Casserly left the organization on June 1, 2006. Casserly sought a job in the National Football League front office, but was passed over for the job.[9] He was succeeded as General Manager by Rick Smith. Casserly's work with the Texans has been subject to much criticism.[10][11]

I was saying on this board they should look at casserly before they brought in the two knuckleheads they ended up signing. I'd still be happy about it.

LOL, you post the negative without the positive. If you think there is a Perfect GM out there that never made a mistake, you are wrong. Good luck finding him.

Browns: Lerner won't comment on Holmgren rumors

Published: Thursday, November 19, 2009

By Jeff Schudel
JSchudel@News-Herald.com

If Browns owner Randy Lerner met with Mike Holmgren on Tuesday, he is not willing to discuss it.

Jim Brown, speaking at a luncheon benefitting Our Lady of the Wayside, told the audience:

"At this moment, right now Randy Lerner is meeting with one of the great football minds in this country," Brown said in remarks prior to and during the luncheon. "And if things work out, that person will come in to run the football side of the Browns."

Brown did not identify who Lerner met with, but implied it was Holmgren, the former coach of the Packers and Seahawks. In 17 years coaching, he had only three losing seasons.

Lerner is not looking for a coach. He is looking for an experienced football executive to run the football side of the Browns. The executive would hire a general manager. The two would decide the fate of Coach Eric Mangini.

"I have no comment on any matter related to the search to strengthen the Browns' management," Lerner wrote in an e-mail response.

Holmgren was the Seahawks' coach and general manager from 1999-2002.

He was stripped of his GM duties after the 2002 season because wearing both hats did not work well, but he continued coaching through 2008.

He took the Seahawks to the Super Bowl following the 2005 season and lost to the Steelers. He was 1-1 in Super Bowls with Green Bay.

He did have the balls to pass on Reggie Bush and take Mario Williams.

That's a pretty good thing to have on your resume if you ask me.

Also, remember was he wasn't fired by the Texans, he left on his own terms. And they were an expansion team, so he has experience building teams from scratch.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but he would be in my top 5.

c'mon DC......
all you need to know is that he was fired by Dan Snyder almost as soon as little Napoleon bought the team.

IMO that alone qualifies Casserly for a top GM job in the NFL

what have the Redskins done since Casserly was booted??
the Dan and Vinny show can't draft, they must depend on free agency.

But since you live in or near DC, I'm prolly preaching to the choir.

Charley Casserly for GM and Holmgren for HC is my first choice, but I seldom get what I want

Only posted most recent relevance, but the Link included the rest, so it wasn't like I tried to shy away from it.

I think I judged the Wiki page too quickly, but after rereading the entire Wiki Page, he doesn't sound like a bad candidate. To be honest, I don't know much about him, except what was listed, but he did have a decent draft history with the Texans and did build a Expansion Team, they weren't great, but there is experience.

This is not intended as any offense to you, but more of a general note to all: Wikipedia is probably the least valid source for information out there.

No way, man!

[Wikipedia] is currently the largest and most popular general reference work on the Internet.[3][8][9][10]
