I think it depends on what their GM values more a Safety or a DT. In a 4-3 where the D-lineman are your playmakers I would value the DT more. Also the QB's to me are almost interchangeable, they both have similar qualities. The difference I see is one is a tool and the other has injury question. I think either way both of those teams are selecting a QB. The only thing that could get interesting is if Mallet declares (which would be a mistake IMO) but someone could fall in love with his talent.

[ Cody that early would be a surprise today; but as dt said Tyson Jackson wasn't regarded as the 3rd best player last year, so... I suppose it could hinge on how he plays Thursday night though, and if he keeps his shirt on running those pesky 40 times in workouts. Cody would be a nice 34 NT for us, moving Rogers to DE, if we stay with the 34, but as a 2nd rounder right now.
I really think the way the Patriot organization/Pioli values d-lineman and their lack of a true NT will really bump up Cody's Value. Like I said Pioli/Bellicheck invested 3 1st round picks into D-linemen. However, I think Rubin is a good NT for us and I think need pass rushers (3-4 OLB or 4-3 END) more than a NT. Plus our defensive needs change dramatically if we switch to a 4-3.
Go Browns!!

I did something similar as Loki....I went back and looked at each of the top teams rosters and tried to determine what there biggest needs were. I then pretended I was the GM. I also assumed a couple of things....Shanahan to Washington and Cowher to Buffalo. I'm sure there are hidden gems already on the teams that I have no idea about and the order of needs in some cases could be flip flopped
Here's what I came up with:
St. Louis Need 1: QB Need 2: OLB Need 3: DT Need 4: WR Pick: Ndamukong Suh (DT) - St. Louis needs a lot but I think they go with veteran QB and take BPA Detroit Need 1: DT Need 2: DE Need 3: OT Need 4: CB Pick: Gerald McCoy (DT) - Detroit's d-line is horrible and picking McCoy to play on the dome turf is a no brainer Tampa Bay Need 1: OLB Need 2: DE Need 3: OT Need 4: WR Pick: Derrick Morgan (DE) - First surprise of the draft, but Morgan can bring it and will be in the top 10 this year Washington Need 1: OT Need 2: OG Need 3: DE Need 4: RB Pick: Russell Okung (OT) - I think Shanahan will try to see what he's got with Campbell and will build up the line around him. Kansas City Need 1: NT Need 2: ILB Need 3: CB Need 4: OT Pick: Rolando McClain (ILB) - Came down to Eric Berry and Rolando McClain...I think Pioli goes with the LB as they have no one in the middle Seattle Need 1: QB Need 2: DT Need 3: OT Need 4: ILB Pick: Sam Bradford (QB) - Time to get someone as an understudy to Hasslebeck. Cleveland Need 1: QB Need 2: S Need 3: TE Need 4: ILB Pick: Eric Berry (S) - I don't think Holmgren goes QB in first round...He'll look for a veteran or gem in 3rd/4th round Oakland Need 1: QB Need 2: OLB Need 3: DT Need 4: OG Pick: Jimmy Clausen (QB) - Al Davis pulls the plug on Russell and goes with the Golden Domer to keep the natives happy and sell tickets Buffalo Need 1: QB Need 2: OT Need 3: OLB Need 4: DT Pick: Anthony Davis (OT) - With Cowher running the show, he starts to build the power running game to go along with Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch Denver Need 1: DE Need 2: DT Need 3: WR Need 4: OG Pick: Dez Bryant (WR) - BPA...need someone to replace Marshall who is traded
Pick away!
I'm coming home, I'm coming home, tell the world I'm coming home

offensive.. lol.
I agree. They have Stafford, Megatron, Pettigrew and a pretty good young back in Smith so they seem to be building a talented young offense. However, their offensive line is atrocious. The LT is 32 year old Jeff Backus so Okung or someone like that in the 1st round seems the smartest choice as they try to build an offense that can compete with the Packers and Vikings.

So the updated draft order is:
1-STL 2-Det 3-TB 4-Was 5-KC 6-Sea 7-CLEVELAND 8-Oakland 9-Buffalo 10/11-Denver(FROM Chicago) 10/11-Jax (Jax and Chicago have the same opponent winning %, so a coin flip will determine who is 10. 12-Miami 13-SanFran 14-Sea(FROM Denver) 15-NYG 16/17-Ten will flip with Carolina for the 16th pick 16/17-SanFran(FROM Carolina) 18-Pittsburgh 19/20-Atlanta or Houston (will flip with for pick 19) 19/20-Atlanta or Houston (will flip with for pick 19) 21-NYJ (Playoff teamfrom here on down, could move to 31 or 32 if they get to and/or win the Superbowl) 22-Balt 23-NE 24-Cincy 25-Arizona 26-FB 27-Philly 28-Dal 29-Minn 30-SD 31-NO 32-Indy
So, Seattle and San Fran have two first round picks, and three coin flips will take place (at the combine I believe) to determine final draft order.
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

It looks like most on here are assuming we will be sticking with the 3-4 defense. I personally see a switch to the 4-3 in our future but obviously that's just a guess on my part.
If in fact that happens then considering where we are picking and the fact I think Suh, Berry, and the 2 top QB will be gone I fully expect DE Derrick Morgan to be the pick.
If we make the switch then DE becomes a huge need for this team and we would get the best one in the draft.

I think it doesn't open up until after the playoffs. Although now would be better.

I would like to see a draft forum up all year.
I do not watch a lot of college football, but after reading through this thread regularly I learned some names to watch for when that guy's team was playing.
In the past, the draft talk "opened up" after the pro and college seasons were over...that's too late for guys like me to make the effort to watch for certain pimped players...especially/even the bowl games.
This year I was able to watch at least a little of several players because those players were talked up on here and many games still remained.
Just a thought for the mods and others.

Seven,...hmmnn,...there went Suh and Berry, unless something happens/changes. I actually don't think I'll be happy unless we get one of those two. With the way the DLine played as of late, the return of a healthy Rogers could alleviate the pain of not getting Suh, but we REALLY need this Berry kid, or someone like him. Seven ain't gonna cut it. But we'll get a hole-filler, no doubt though. And it'll be more frugal.

Legend has it that's how Shula managed to get Marino to fall into the Dolphins' grasp... there were rumors (some say started by the Fins) that Dan the Man was a wild man at Pitt.

Bradford is the most accurate QB to come out in a LONG time. Your concerns about his footwork are legitimate no doubt...........so is the injury history.
The big questions with him are : 1. Can he handle pressure? He had one of the best lines in college football history in front of him last year. 2. Can he stay healthy? The lesser questions are: 3. Does he have the footwork to drop back from under center? 4. Does he have the arm strength? 5. Can he read defenses from a pro-style offense? They aren't any less important criteria, just areas that people have a lot of faith in Bradford's ability, or we'll get a better look at in workouts.
As to what MH will do,hard to say, he might want a developmental QB who could be had in later rounds and get a vet in to run his offense . The real problem is there is no clear cut QB this year..they all have some big flaws..it's not the best year to be drafting a QB..which is why I doubt if our first pick is used on a QB..it's either going to be S/CB/LB..

But, if you "had to",....I'd take Bradford. Bernie's footwork was horrible. And they say Sam has the brain.

If I had to take one QB in this year's draft that I had to be my starter of the future it would be Dan LeFevour.

I'll take a heat for it but if he's there when we pick in the second, I strongly consider Tim Tebow. I cannot understand why so many people have the hate on for this guy. All the guy does is win. His accuracy is good. His arm is good.
He's smart, a leader and I'd bet my bottom dollar he only gets better.

Because after watching college QB's this season I think LeFevour has the most talent of any QB in this draft.
He's 6'3", 238 lbs. He's a four year starter. These are his completion percentages starting with his freshman year 63.7%, 65.4%, 66.8%, and 71.1%. He improved every year, this. He threw for 101 TD's in four years, and had only 35 INT's. He also has great mobility, he had 2,936 rushing yards in his career with 46 TD's. He's even punted 7 times. He's got the whole package. Central Michigan has also won the MAC Championship all four years LeFevour has started.
There are also some negatives. He ran the spread offense, so a lot of his passes were short passes. Also, he didn't play against elite competition.

I went to Miami University, a MAC school and I never paid any attention to Central Mich. Now I wish I had, so I would have a better judgement on this kid. His stats are insane, but so were tim rattray, colt brennan, jason white, etc... So its hard for me to judge based on that alone. Be curious to see what draft sites say about him when it comes closer to the draft.

Kid plays and succeeds against good competition and people want to take him away from QB? For a moment, folks need to forget what they see on ESPN and take a look at the guy's game.
Arm? Check. Leadership? Check Accuracy? Check Decision making? Check.
So he can run the ball.... why is this a bad thing?
Oh, but he works out of the gun.....and Brady Quinn was in a pro-style system. How'd that work for us? Fact is that Tebow is a winner. He's a smart kid with football ability. IF you're saying that he can't learn to take snaps from center, tell me why.

More like played against no one. I don't know much about the guy but in games where he played against legit defenses, it doesn;t look like he did well.

I've seen LeFevour..it's hard to get a true read on him because of the level of comp.. His completion % is good..but that was against less than elite comp.. I question if he can make all the throws and can handle the pressure he's going to face.

Tebow is a good QB coach away from being a good NFL starter in 3 years.
The only thing that scares me for Tebow is that his mechanics are just not that good.

Is he actually smart? His press conferences make him sound... not so smart. Actually when he was giving a press conference recently, my fiance asked me "Um, is there something wrong with him?" I just don't remember hearing anything saying he was particularly smart as a QB.
Also, his release is very slow and his accuracy really isn't all that great.
And yeah, no to Dan LeFevour in my book, too. Basically, he's famous because he has big stats, but he's a spread QB. Yes, he has arguably the best college qb stats ever, but 1) he did it in the MAC, which seems to make every college QB look good and 2) he did it in a spread offense, which seems to make any college QB look good not named isaiah williams. And even HE looked good for a year.

I meant football smart...although the sutff I've seen of him, he seems like a pretty with-it guy.
I know there is a knock on his delivery. Mechanics don't bug me that much as there's many QBs who have flawed mechanics that turn out fine (That was a big knock on Rivers coming out).
As for slow delivery, maybe I just don't see it but I don't see it as slow. He's got a bit of a windup to it yes and that is wasted motion. I'd hope that he can correct that.
Accuracy...he rated something like 7th in the NCAA with a high 60s completion percentage. Plus he did that with a very good yards per completion avg.
As a second round pick, I don't see how he's not tremendous value and a great future signal caller.

I think he will actually. Given his steadfast desire to play QB, I don't think other teams will take him as an athlete type that they can mold.
Whether he gets picked near the top of the second is a different story.

You should have said, "Yes honey, there is something wrong with him, as a football player, he doesn't say, 'uh', 'um', 'you know', and 'like' 40 times in every response."

Not really...he's not even the most accurate in this draft. In the last 3 years Bradford has a 68% completion rate - McCoy has 71%, Dan Lefevour has 68% also, and Case Keenum has 69% in the same time period (only looked at a handful of QBs). Remove 2009 from the mix and its just McCoy (71%) and Bradford (69%). Though, I would agree that he is one of the more accurate QBs for sure.
As per footwork and injury history, yes both are concerns. Also, with most QBs that play the spread offense, how will he convert to being under center taking 5 and 7 step drops? I'd also be concerned about his ability to read defenses - there are quite a few programs in the NCAA that look to the sideline before plays to adjust to the defense - can Sam do this on his own? I presume so, because he's reported to be intelligent and a quick decision maker - one could assume that he could diagnose a defense quickly also. (similar to Attack's questions)
I'll admit I'm biased though with respect to him - not sure why, but I'm not a big fan and wonder how successful he'll be.

Tebow doesn't have that great of an arm, isn't that accurate, has a horribly slow release, and doesn't have to make any decisions. And besides, I think he'll go in the 1st.
It is possible that LeFevour won't even be drafted.

I respect your resident draft guru status deep and know that you're a smart cat when it comes to the draft but how does a close to 68 per cent completion percentage against very good competition not qualify him as accurate?
Admittedly, he needs pro coaching to round out his skill set but I maintain that he'd be a great pick for us if he was there in the second (I do think he slides to second round...at this point anyways, the combine may change things) and that he'll be a good NFL QB.
