I'm surprised as well.
I'm just hoping that AT LEAST St. Claire gets released soon. If we're upgrading the line, then it doesn't make any sense to release a really good backup/mentor and keep a guy that redefines worthless.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I'm disappointed but not totally surprised. The business end of football stinks at times. I kind of would have liked to see Fraley retire as a Brown because of what he stepped in and did for us. We were in a world of hurt when he got here after LCB went down. The guy just stepped in and started working from day one. He's the kind of football player every team needs. Oh, and that shot he laid on Reed was one of the finest memories I'll have of him.
I hope his release this early allows him time to get on with another team if that's what he wants. Anyone but Pittsburgh.

Sorry to see you and Hank go Danielle. I got to meet him out in Strongsville once. Was a great time. Hank always gave his all. I liked watching him play for us. Hope everything works out for you.
You could always come down here to Miami/South Florida. =)

http://news-herald.com/articles/2010/03/04/sports/nh2182110.txtFraley release could be clue for free-agent plans Published: Thursday, March 4, 2010 By Jeff Schudel JSchudel@News-Herald.comVeteran center Hank Fraley was released by the Browns on Wednesday. In typical fashion, the release was announced in an e-mail with no quotes from head coach Eric Mangini or anyone in the organization thanking Fraley for the four years he spent with the Browns. "The Cleveland Browns today terminated the contract of offensive lineman Hank Fraley, the team announced," the statement read. "Fraley spent the last four years with the Browns during which time he appeared in 63 games with 52 starts. In 2009, he played in 15 games with four starts." Fraley seemed to know the victory over Jacksonville in the final game of the 2009 season would be his last with the Browns and perhaps the last of his 10-year career. While his teammates were stripping off their uniforms and heading to the shower, Fraley sat at his dressing stall in full uniform with his head bowed and supported by his hands. "I was just trying to take it all in," he said the next day. "If it was my last game, I wanted to remember the moment." Fraley broke into the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the Steelers in 2000. They cut him in training camp and the next day he was claimed on waivers by the Eagles. He played in Philadelphia six years before the Browns, in desperate need of a center in 2006 — that was the summer LeCharles Bentley suffered a torn patellar tendon on the first play of training camp — got Fraley from the Eagles for a sixth-round draft choice. Fraley, 33, was elected team captain by his teammates in 2008. He also served as the Browns' union representative. Fraley knew his days were numbered when the Browns used their 2009 first-round pick on center Alex Mack. Fraley helped Mack in training camp and the regular season last year. He said he did so because he is a team player. Releasing Fraley and not aggressively trying to re-sign guard Rex Hadnot is an indication the Browns have their eyes on a guard/center in free agency. (so this is what he backs up the title of his article with. What a genius)

A lot of you are only taking up for him b/c of Danielle. Let's be honest. He's a fan favorite on this board b/c of her, and thats why there is not NEAR as much dissing as when Jamal Lewis was cut, Winslow was traded, Edwards was traded, etc.
He's done. I do hope that he can get on somewhere else, just as I hope for any past Brown.. Well except for Edwards.. lol.
No - a lot of people are wishing Hank well because he came in, did his job, and did it with class and a work ethic. He was a team guy - top to bottom - a class act. No "me me me" crap.
He got benched this year - and no "what the hell is the team doing" kind of charades from him. He helped the guy that took his place learn his position.
He was one O linemen that, when we had a run of 5-6 - 20 yds - HE was the guy downfield blocking - or at least busting his butt to get downfield.
He had a great attitude - and believe it or not, many people on here appreciate that in a player.
Was he the best? No. But you knew he wouldn't get outworked, and that means something.
Will he get picked up by another team? More than likely. And more than likely it will be by a team that says "hey, we're shallow on the line - this Fraley guy can be our backup at center, left guard, or right guard."
I wish him and his family the best. Class people/athletes are getting harder and harder to find, and Hank is/was one.

Thanks For Everything. Boy, it sure would be nice if a Browns Backers group could put together a Good Bye Party for Hank, and family. So the fans could show their appreciation and giving a "pat on the back" to a guy who gave it his-all for the Browns.
Go Browns !!!!

Why doesn't Coye Francies get more PT? He must not be that good then.. Why doesn't Veikune not get more PT? He must not be that good then.. Why doesn't Robiskie not get more PT? He must not be that good then..
Why did Hank Fraley get cut? He must not be that good.

1st off you don't hear me saying those things.
2nd because I tape the games and re-watch them over in slow motion and break down each play, keying on each player. IMO Hank played well enough to be kept this year.

I agree that he played well enough to be kept another year, even if that role is as a backup. However, that probably isn't all there is to the reasoning behind cutting him loose.
If his ultimate number was $2.1 million, that's pretty expensive for a player you don't slate to be a starter. Furthermore, even though there isn't a salary cap, most teams have a ceiling, and the $1 million or so Fraley would have cost over his value as a backup eats into that money.
Again, I would have preferred he stayed another year, but I can understand why he was cut loose.
How about this for some irony....................wouldn't it be a twist if Fraley is signed by the Eagles to be a short-term fix because their starting center is out with a serious knee injury, just like he was with us when Bentley went down?

he barely got playing time last year.. not near as much as two years ago before the drafting of Mack.... and when he did play.. He was put as a TE as the 6th blocker... 6 big oline.. everyone should do well.. lol.
But neway.. Gonna miss u Fraley.. Stand up guy, even though u did make a few comments when Anderson first got benched for Quinn that shouldn't have been made.

J/C buddy. Hank was one of those guys you looked at and felt he should be driving a truck, but you watched him play and he played like a fan....with his heart. Unlike us, he had something to back it up. That is why I like him and why I will always consider him a Cleveland Brown. When it's all over, I hope he and his family consider themselves Cleveland Browns. I hope he can carve out another few years in the league, but if not.....Hank....you have my respect and I appreciate the time. Be it this year, or 2-3 years from now, I hope you are one of those Ex- Browns who shows up every once in a while to mingle. You will be received like Jim Bert....or Burt, is received by Giants fans.....you are one of us. With Browns fans, you don't have to be a great player, like a HOF candidate.....you have to be a player who gritted it out first and foremost.....and you did that with honor and success. If I can ever buy you a beer, I am good. Shoot, maybe even 4-5
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

That'd be a nice way for him to finish. Sorry to him go.... gotta love a player that leaves it all on the field, and Hank always did just that.
Thanks for the years, Hank... Fair winds & following seas.

1st thanks Hank for being a class guy, and working your tail off on and off the field to try to help the Browns be a better team. Your unselfish act of helping to bring Mack up to speed will always be remembered by this poster.
I feel safe in saying probably the guy that will miss Hank the most will be Mack.
That said I believe the Browns are in the process of clearing away roster spots for draft picks. If the player is a older player and not viewed as a starter then he is being allowed to leave, or being cut.
When you look at everything that has been done the Browns intend on having a blockbuster draft. I sure hope their right. Even the tenders are low IMO. nd the reason is the Browns are fine with adding more picks. The Roth tender really thru me, he would be pretty tuff to replace IMO.
The Browns need roster spots we have 11 picks, not all of them will make the team but the majority will, Hank was a casualty of that need.
Again Thanks Hank all the best to you and your family...

we're making some room for draft picks yes, but we are clearing cap space for a move too. and some of these picks will be traded for a player or a move up in the draft. We are definetley positioning for something. we wont be drafting all these picks.

Didn't know where to put this.. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.comRyan Tucker announces his retirement Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 6, 2010 9:57 AM ET After 12 seasons and one Super Bowl title, Browns offensive lineman Ryan Tucker officially announced his retirement Thursday. The former Ram played his last seven seasons with the Brown, but missed all of 2009 with a knee injury. "We notified the league and we are notifying the Cleveland Browns family that I'm shutting it down," Tucker said on 850 AM Saturday. Only Phil Dawson has been with the team longer. Ryan was the older brother of former NFL lineman Rex Tucker, but has no relation to multimedia maven Ross Tucker. We think.

Good bye Ryan Tucker, you will definitely be missed.
Finding a RT that was Ryan Tucker's caliber is an absolute necessity for our offense to succeed next year. I've been saying this the entire offseason. Finding a RG to fill in will be a lot easier than RT, we need to find a RT now or plan to draft a starter in the draft. Is there any RTs in FA?

I do not even pretend to follow FA enough to know whether there is/are,....didn't expect to either lose, or retain, another year from Tucker anyway, so I'm back to my old standard, Square One Theory,....draft the best damned OLineman available with the earliest pick as possible that fits all of the "other" crap considerations (all that money, value, & don't-waste-it-here talk,....)
With the way the rest of the division appears to be loading up to explode, and as weak on defense as we appear to remain, we are really going to need to be able to run the ball and control the clock.
Just my opinion on basic football. We have to have some more good linemen,...go get them.

After reading everyones posts..It`s clear how the Browns fans want their players to represent the team. It`s a refreshing feeling knowing that players like Hank exsist. From his work ethnics to his relationship with the fans.

Ditto. My feelings about Hank have nothing to do with Danielle posting. Hank was a true football player, and a professional. His work ethic was unsurpassed IMO, and his selflessness is admirable. As for Danielle, she also is a class act. She showed courage to talk with fans like she did. She also took the bad with the good and never complained about bad things said about Hank. It would be my hope that they would always have a soft spot for the Browns fanbase, because this fan will always appreciate them.
Good luck Hank, and God bless your family.

Ryan Tucker, Jason Ferguson suspended eight games each Posted by Mike Florio on March 7, 2010 7:25 AM ET On Thursday, Browns offensive lineman Ryan Tucker retired. The decision, surprising at the time, suddenly makes sense. Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange and the St. Louis Globe-Democrat reports that Tucker has been suspended for the first eight games of the 2010 season. Also suspended for the first eight games of the 2010 season, per Balzer, is Dolphins nose tackle Jason Ferguson. Balzer reports that it's believed the suspensions arise under the NFL's policy regarding performance-enhancing substances; we believe that's the only plausible explanation. Each player has one prior four-game suspension under the policy, and the policy calls for an eight-game suspension for a second violation. Ferguson's first suspension came 11 years ago, which could give him ammunition for an appeal. Indeed, at some point the initial suspension arguably should be removed from a guy's record; in this regard, 10 years seems fair. (Then again, the policy doesn't include such a provision, so it might be a tough argument to make.) The Dolphins now need to get themselves a replacement nose tackle; we're surprised they didn't pounce on former Charger Jamal Williams before the news of Ferguson's suspension was revealed. Link

Hank used to do the Monday evening " Browns Primetime" show from Paninis at Kamms corner on WMMS,so one time I stopped up there after work just to check it out. Hank was the coolest down to earth redneck I have ever met,and when I say redneck I mean that in a positive way. He was just a good, easy going dude who loved to hunt and fish and loved to taalk about it. I know one thing also, I dont know what Paninis was paying as a appearance fee ,if anything like that, but hank made up for it in free food. I thought I could eat !! KING

Yeah Tuck is alright, not surprised he's going out but a bit sad. Sorry to see him get gonged for a 2nd suspension, but whatever... doesn't really matter he was done anyway. Too bad his last couple seasons were next-to-nothing because of injury. At least, he played with some jam when he saw the field.

Actually Tucker retired because he would have been suspended for 8 games to start the season, as reported earlier today on PFT.

I'm going to miss Hank, he was what you want in a Cleveland Brown: lunchpale attitude and all around standup guy.
I don't think he completely bought into Mangini though. Or at least he didn't at the beginning of the year.

I will definitely pay a little more attention to the Rams now. I really hope Fraley lights it up there. He deserves it.
Congrats Hank, and good luck!
