Quote: I like the move. The kid has progressed every year and is now in my opinion ready to blossom in to a pretty darn good qb.
Reminds me a bit of Gerrard in Jville.
Garrard is more of a pocket passer and would never be considered to use in the wildcat.
Im not excited about the move but it does mean they wont be paying DA $10 million to throw rockets at his targets ankles. Wallace gives the offense more weopens and options.
Id still like to see a QB get drafted in the mid rounds because Ratcliff wont be in the teams future. Wallace might be seen as the best option as a QB with experiance, until someone is ready to take over for Quinn.
Quote: don't think Pete Carroll cares for Hasselback.
Maybe a little, 3 way trade of DA to Arizonia, Matt L to Seattle, Hasselbeck to Cleveland ?
WOW that would be crazy if we ended up with both of Seattles QB's because they really tore it up last year!!!!!!
I am fine with us getting Wallace but dont want Hasselbeck here unless his sister-in-law is going to do a bikini shoot on the jumbo tron during games!!!!
Quote: Heck, I'd find a way to get Jennings out there, too and let the defense worry about all 4 of them, with Moore at TE. That ball could go anywhere at any time.
Like when Anderson is playing - the ball could go anywhere at any time.
LOL Initially, I admit, it was a knee jerk reaction.. something I'm not prone to.. but I guess I'm also not immune either...
It's just that the more I think about it, I seriously doubt that Holmgrens team is done with this.. I'm more convinced than ever that Wallace is the stopgap/teacher/placeholder for someone else..
I'm not at all sure who that someone else will.. Quinn, DA or someone we pick in the draft to groom.. No idea which. But someone else is on thier radar.. I just believe that.
So like I said, I'll just shut up and let it play out before getting all worked up over this trade..

I like the trade, we needed someone who was "serviceable", I personally think by next year Quinn and DA will not be throwing for the Browns and this is one way to stage them out.
DA gets cut or traded now. (Seneca is better than DA). If Lefevour lands in our lap we take him. If we don't draft Dan we've got next year to figure out the QB situation. Seneca will be used in Wildcat sets like how so many people wanted Vick.
He bided us some time to look for a better QB option while our team develops.
Quote: Smith would be competition for Quinn though...
Are we just so used to having a QB competition that we now want one? If we traded for Peyton Manning guys wouldn't know what to do. Who would he compete with for the starting QB position? You mean he is the starter...and no one else has a chance as starting? How is this possible!?!?!
Again, Holmgren has said repeatedly there will be no QB competition.
Quote: I don't think Pete Carroll cares for Hasselback.
I think all the draft "gurus" go wrong in what the Seahawks do with the pair of first round picks they have..
I say they go QB if Bradford is there, or Left Tackle/ CJ Spiller...
I could see Clausen before Bradford in Seattle - Carroll highly recruited him and they've kept in touch over the years. As per Spiller, he would be a terrible pick for Seattle - the one guy that actually performed for Seattle at RB last year was Justin Forsett who is a similar type speed back. They need to replace Julius Jones, not Forsett.
We should know by now that the NFL is a two back league (in most cases). If the Seahawks drafted C.J. Spiller it would give them two good options at running back. It would also replace Julius Jones...with Justin Forsett.
With that said, I don't think the Seahawks will draft Spiller with the 6th pick. If he is there at pick #14 I think he is there guy. Assuming they don't use one of those picks to get Brandon Marshall.
I agree it is a 2 back league, but drafting Spiller would give them 2 very similar backs, which I see very little logic in.
I can't imagine them going Spiller unless he's there in round 2. At 6 I expect either Marshall (if contract is offered and Denver doesn't match), Clausen or LT. At 14 LT or DE - they lost out on Kampmann and are in desperate need of someone to rush the QB, especially if Kerney really did retire (some question as to whether he did or not). In the 2nd round I expect RB - Matthews if he's still there, or maybe Dwyer.
Thinking about this deal for Seneca Wallace...trying to think out of the box...
Thinking out-loud (dangerous )...I wonder if the Browns acquired the rights to Seneca Wallace with the idea of trading him to another team, in a deal to acquire another QB?...someone the Browns see as a long term starter for the Browns?
Could Holmgren and Heckert be using their past connections with their previous teams, in an effort to complete a trade to get a QB who was high on their list of possibilities?...someone they see as a long term fix at QB...
Quote: Quinn should get another shot without having to look over his shoulder.
He hasn't earned that right, and his bad play assures he never will.
If he's a good QB he'll overcome the adversity. If he isn't, he'll go down as yet another of the failed moves by Savage, having cost us several years, a 1st rounder, and a 2nd rounder.
As for Wallace, really, Grossi? Holmgren acquired him to come right in and start?
BS.
He's insurance for Quinn. If he beats Quinn out in camp, it won't be because Wallace is good, it's because Quinn failed.
Is Wallace Holmgren's Dilfer? I disagree. I say he's Holmgren's Anderson: The iffy backup who has some tools but enough holes to keep him from being considered a viable starter, and who represents insurance in case the current starter fails.............as expected.
To me, this move doesn't preclude the Browns from acquiring another QB. Wallace has simply replaced Anderson as the primary backup, not solved the QB situation.
On a side note, I sure hope that anyone who believed Holmgren's quotes about "3 full years worth of starts" now understand the folly of that belief. It meant nothing. Holmgren was never going to say anything bad about any player. His actions would speak to his real feelings. Well, now we know what those are. He doesn't believe in Quinn. No reason he should. He doesn't believe in Anderson. No reason he should. Anyone now thinking that because he brought Wallace here means he believes in him to be the QB, same logic applies as before. A perennial backup who stands 5'11 isn't going to be a viable starter.
I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we draft a QB early in the draft. In fact, looking at Quinn and Wallace, I'm hoping for it.
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***
Quote: "Who cares if they are similar?" says Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.
Well, first of all Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are both about 230 pounds - where Forsett and Spiller are both around 190 or 195. Second, both Williams and Brown have the ability to get outside or run between the tackles. Can Forsett and Spiller both run between the tackles consistently at that size? Third, both Williams and Brown are top 5 picks in their respective drafts - Forsett was a 7th rounder and Spiller we're talking #14 (still frist rounder, but...).
I'd be ok with 2 similar guys if they were bigger, but two little speedy guys that may not be able to run between the tackles consistently? I personally don't see any logic in it.
In watching that video, he's obviously a very mobile QB - not a bad thing, as long as it isn't his first instinct. I like that it showed him making a number of solid throws against NFL teams. He has a nice deep ball with good accuracy at distance. Lot of nice sideline throws.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
I'm more thinking Wallace is our Hasselbeck and we're still looking for our Dilfer (Bulger or Delhomme??). I don't think Quinn or DA will be on the roster much longer.
Either way you look at it... I tend to agree with Grossi (for once). Wallace is the starter...

i think kolb should be out of our minds. it's easy to make that connection given our new braintrust but no team in their right mind will trade away a potentially great qb if their main option is a 34 year old qb the fans don't even appreciate.
Quote: So packaging wallace with maybe a pick to get Kolb?
Hooray!
collector....I just don't see Holmgren solving the Browns QB situation long term by bringing in Wallace and counting on him to train a young QB we draft or training Quinn.
And...I doubt that Holmgren is the type to waste years of trying something, then turning around in a year or two to make another fix of the Browns QB problem.
But...would Holmgren and Heckert make the deal for Wallace thinking he is the long term answer for the Browns?....I have a hard time believing that...
As do I... my first comment in this thread was that I highly doubt that we could consider him as a long term answer to anything, but he'd make a fine bridge to whatever the future is.
Absolute worst case is that he is one heckuva nice backup to have.... but I agree with others that I do not believe that we have anyone here that can push him to the bench.

I agree,...as high as they are on him -- and everyone else seems to be -- that wouldn't be too bright. I'd keep him and Vick and let the aging Mac go.
