So...we will trade for a 3rd rund bust and a 31yo CB who declined significantly in the 2nd half of last season (ask some Eagles fans, most are ok with getting rid of him) AND who wants a new contract....if we give up a 3rd for Brown it would be foolish, the Eagles have no leverage....Brown is an aging, declining CB who wants more money...they want to DUMP him, just like we dumped C.Williams

Oh, and has anybody thought about Dqwell? That's who the Eagles may be targeting...I wouldn't deal Dqwell for both of those guys straight up

Unfortunately for you Dj, I agree with you. (If that isn't the Kiss of Death I don't know what is ).

There are precious-few trade-able players on this team. Rogers and Jackson are two of them. Forget that Rogers got caught with a handgun. That isn't going to scare a team off. Jackson is a good player who is mis-cast in the 34. We all have known it for years. I don't want to trade him but I know a contrasting player when I see one.

Both <Toad> and Brown are on the wrong-side of their prime. Maybe they have a year or two left in them. I would understand the gamble on our part to acquire short-term pieces.

But the price to acquire them has to be right. We can't give a big extension to a guy like Brown. Gocong would be a decent piece but at best he's a stop-gap starter.

For two players about to decline, middle-round picks are an alright gamble. But guys like Rogers and Jackson? No thanks.

Edited for comedic effect.

Actually I did before I posted..and their remarks are that he is still a good corner and his age and coverage is the only negative ...

Re-read what you just wrote...I bolded the "interesting" parts for you and anyone else....so he's a "good" CB but sucks at "covering"....interesting...I know some WR we had (we had plenty of them, didn't we), they were "good" WRs, but sucked at "catching" the football

I somehow had it in my head that he was the same-age as Brown. Turns out I was mistaking him with Witherspoon. My mistake.

I really don't care what homers think...I know my peeps and trust their judgements more than 1000 of those homers posting on local news blogs (cause, let's be honest only homers post there)...

Go read what Browns fans wrote in Grossi's articles when we dumped Quinn...the homers reacted as if we just traded Peyton Manning...Brown played a lot of years for the Eagles of course there will be plenty that whine about it

I wouldn't care if U bolded it,underlined it or used it to sit on...the comment about his coverage that I was talking about wasn't that it sucked ..you're very presumptious...thats not a good thing..

"Brown started out well he strained a hamstring, continued to play(Ellis Hobbs went on IR and Hanson was suspended) but was really struggling. By the end of the season, Dallas was killing him. It's debatable how much of that was due to injury or whether he's "lost a step..He's a great tackler for a CB, to the point I and media pundits have suggested a move to free safety."

Those are the exact thoughts of someone who feels mixed about him..so it's nothing like he sucks..not the way U want to color it right now.

Hmm, let's see....the perennial PO-team Eagles with President Banner decided to let this "brain" Heckert go and named "a young clueless kid" their GM and the perennial headless loser-Browns made out on that...hmm, yeah that's the way it must have gone done

Andy Reid's guys have been losing out in a power struggle to this kid. Now this guy is treating McNabb like a piece of meat and the Eagles are handling this situation horribly so far.

What they have done in the past does not matter. Guys have moved on, this is quite clearly a new Eagles front office. We'll see how it works out, but the way they are going so far, it seems to me that they are screwing things up. JMHO.

Jackson can't be traded as he hasn't signed his tender yet.

Only players who are currently under contract can be traded.

Here are some players I think it can possibly be:

Brandon McDonald, Marcus Benard, James Davis, Chris Jennings, Kaluka Maiava, Ahtyba Rubin, and/or Chansi Stuckey.

Now that I've said those names it's obviously going to be someone else.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Here's another link from Philly's local ABC affiliate.

Again, good deal by us. One guy who is a for sure starter for us and one player who is at least a role player for a 4th and 5th round pick plus a guy who didn't really play for us.

Funny how everyone seems to think that a switch to a 3-4 does make Gocong magically a better player...

not true. how many have said he will definitely be an upgrade or will even definitely start?

all most have said is that they do not know if he fits the 3-4 better and are willing to give him a shot rather than immediately saying the guy is a bum

The 5th round pick (137) is the middle 5th rounder of the three we had; Browns kept the 134th they got from Tampa and the later one from Denver.

You are officially full of crap. I know a lot of Eagles fans, and I have watched a lot of Sheldon Brown. He was good last year. Not amazing, but solid.

Gocong wasn't used right in Philly. I know that, and every Eagles fan knows that. He didn't blitz much, and should have been a defensive end there.

Sure Brown is going to decline soon, but he is a lot better than any corner on our roster not named Wright. And for the value we gave up, it was a great deal.

no twitter links allowed apparently....

Deal is too much, esp. the 4th....Gocong isn't worth a 5th+Hall and getting a 4th for 31yo CB who you won't pay is a pretty good deal for the Birds

We didn't get totally jobbed, but the #105 pick had real value in this draft...also, I'd like to know WHAT 5th rounder we gave up

Dude , I do not post here often, but read here quite a bit... And sir you are the most negative individual person on this board.. Please, can you find anything,, I mean anything you like about this deal.... I have to feel lucky that you do not run this team, or else we would be 1999 all over again.

Also reading your posts, makes me feel like I just want to end my life.

Please find something you like.. Like maybe Sheldon Brown, His last name is cool....
Or Gocung, ypou like his last name.. Or even it nice outside somewhere... Something positive would really be nice..

Fantastic trade... I said it for you... It really is not that hard

Basically, I would break it down into 2 trades as others have above (it makes sense).

5th and Alex Hall for Gocong

trading away a guy who didn't seem to fit in Ryan/Mangini's plans for a former starter who may or may not fit the 3-4 better than the 4-3. had to pay a 5th round pick as a premium for the upgrade. that seems pretty fair to me.

4th for Sheldon Brown

really depends on if we give him a big extension. as long as his contract remains reasonable, I think we got the better end of things here. Yes, Brown is on the decline, but we really, really needed to move McDonald to nickelback and this move ensures it.

I also don't think it will affect our draft plans. if better CBs fall to us, I think we take them and move Brown to FS. if better Ss fall to us, I think we take the S and leave Brown at CB2. What I really think is that it provides us with more flexibility in how and when we draft those positions (rather than being desperate).

it's tough to give up a 4th round pick for a 31yo player, but giving ourselves much more flexibility at the top of the draft is worth it (again, assuming we don't overpay him)

I don't get how anyone can be against this trade...unless they are trying to be negative and want people to have a certain perception about them.

Gocong isn't worth a 5th+ Hall? Hall only played special teams (a place where we actually have some depth) so he was easily expendable. And a 5th round pick. For a player you know will contribute to your 45 man gameday roster and will be at least as good as Alex Hall.

And a 4th for a 31 year old CB who the Eagles won't pay? Yes you're right. He's 31, no big deal. Corners can maintain a high level of play as they age if they stay healthy. Brown became expendable for the Eagles because they have depth at that position (Samuel, Hanson, and Hobbs) not because he is a bad player.

Good trade for the Browns and the Eagles.

Even if he does play inside and outside it doesn't mean the end for Jackson.

Now we have tremendous flexibility at the LB position. Which Rob Ryan must love.

We have at least five guys who can play inside or outside (Bowens, Fujita, Gocong, Roth, and Trusnik) and then we have Jackson and Maiava who can fill in in the middle.

Also, we have two guys who have potential that play linebacker in Bernard and Veikune ().

Linebacker has become one of our deepest positions.

Here's a new way to look at this trade as well:

Gocong, Brown, 3rd round pick

for

Wimbley, Hall, 4th and 5th round pick

What I have read is that mangini loves his ILB'S bigger.. And Gocung is a liability in pass coverage, so somehow makes sense. But you guys on this board are more savy to this info. So I do not know, you guys let me know.. The one thing is if I remember correctly, Bruschi played inside with the Pats, and he was converted DE out of Arizona.

And I'm equally surprised you think I feel we got ripped off. If anything I'd say we stole Brown and Gocong.. and I know you don't agree.....
