Quote: You're going to make a big deal out of this? He clearly was concerned about environmental impact (water shortages/overloaded sewers as the article says). The island capsizing thing was nothing more than a dumb, not funny joke (if you watch closely at 1:30 in the video, after he makes that comment, he has a smirk), and he says right after that, "I'm concerned about the environment." In the article it states that at the peak of construction, the island could go from 180,000 people to 260,000 people, so concerns about stressing out the local infrastructure seem to be valid.
I agree 100%. Not at any time reading the article did I think that this guy really thought that the island would tip I really have to question anyone making a big deal out of this. Either they are too much of a moron to actually believe he thought that or that they, like any publication bashing him, are on the opposite side of the political agenda looking for anything to bash their opposition.
Even if he did mean it, which I would say its probably a 98% chance he didnt, its not half as bad as watching Bush mess up many many words during his speeches. Or the time that his ear piece malfunctioned during a debate so he sat their the whole time not saying one word looking like an idiot
I guess some people like voting for whoever has the best writers.
"I believe it says we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness," Hare countered.
In the bill of rights, we do. But it doesn't say "the gov't. has the responsibility to guarantee equal results". We are all free to pursue our goals.
However, some feel that if some people reach them, they ought to pay for others to get the same outcome.
Sorry Hale - if what you say is true - I want YOUR income, and YOUR health insurance.
I liked the end ..... "You better start looking for a job Congressman".
I suspect that there will be horrific consequences for the Democrats in the upcoming elections .... because there is so much indisputable .... stuff ..... in this bill (now law) that won't pass the stink test.
I can imagine quite a blitz of ads hammering away on this single issue .... and with a great deal of success. (and using some of the great Democrat footage that already exists for additional material)

Quote: That's a good video - not only does he "not care about the constitution of the U.S. - he doesn't even know what's in it.
"Not worry" and "not care" are two completely different things. Example: I don't worry about my brother getting sick, b/c he is relatively young and healthy. Doesn't mean I don't care if it were to happen. What he means is that he doesn't worry about this bill getting struck down on Constitutional grounds.
This video also makes the Tea Partiers in the video look uninformed. They make a big deal out of the exact words "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" being from the Declaration, but miss the whole point that the Constitution is the legal mechanism that ensures these things. The Declaration was a promise; the Constitution was the actual legal guarantee.
Quote: And he "read the bill 3 times"????????????? I'll bet he did.
Again, the videographers only attacked him as a liar. If they doubted him, I think it would've been far more convincing had they asked him pointed questions about what was in the bill. Otherwise, it looks like they haven't read it themselves.
Quote: And then he gets up and runs away.
I would've walked away too. To recap, they shoved a camera in his face, twisted his words from "not worry" to "not care", called him a liar, all without raising any real arguments. How on earth do you have meaningful debate with this?
The only half argument they really made was that the Constitution doesn't provide the government the necessary power for the insurance mandate, but they never showed where the Constitution expressly prevents the government from doing this.
My argument:
Commerce clause (Article I, section 8, clause 3):
"To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes"
Because this law allows insurance companies to do business across state lines, this bill falls under regulation of interstate commerce, a federal power granted by the Commerce Clause.
Quote: That's it, I'm done here, I came back to see if anything changed.
Nothing has changed, all I see are political crap threads. Goodbye.
So you are offended by a few political threads in a single forum?
Yeah .. it was never like that back in the earliest days of thsi forum .....
Oh wait ..... I just checked ..... 4 political nature threads on the 1st 2 ever pages, way back in this very forum's infancy .......
There are 4 or 5 on this page .... out of 40 overall threads .....
I've always found that if I don't like a thread's subject material .... I just don't read it. For example, I have no interest whatsoever in games .... so I just don't read those threads. It seems to work pretty well for me.
Further, if I read all of the threads posted that appeal to me, and still have a bunch of unread ones .... then I just click "Mark All Read" on my homepage and they all miraculously appear as "Read".
However, if you want to get yourself all worked up over a couple of threads ..... I don't know what to tell ya.

I can't for the life of me understand why people complain about the threads THEY CHOSE TO CLICK ON OF THEIR OWN FREE WILL! You knew full well what would be in those threads. That's like complaning of the paim from that hot poker you shoved up your own arse.

Did Purp pee in your Wheaties or something? Don't make the guy do more work than he should have to. Just exit and don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord (who I don't technically believe in) split ya. I don't care for the volume of political threads myself, really, but if I don't want to be upset by following politics 24/7 you know what I do? I turn off politics. Simplicity.
Politicians are puppets, y'all. Let's get Geppetto!
I also just wanted to add that I just paid a visit to the "official" board ..... and their General Discussion" board is a political free for all. They must have 20+ political threads on page 1 easily.

People can say what they want, but there is no excuse for someone in this country,(especially a President),to not know this.
harley...I do believe Obama said this while campaigning, not as the President.
But so what, he said it...right?
Anyone with an IQ over single digits with an elementary education, knows there are only 50 states so when Obama said he had been to 57 states, with one state to go and admitted to not visiting Alaska and Hawaii, my brain rationalized he must have meant 47 states, not 57 or he had visited some states more than once and was counting major campaign stops...
OR, he was simply tired and misspoke.
But the brain of some RWers does not operate at an IQ level above 9. Some RWers immediately look to see if the USA now has 57 states and when they find out we still have 50 states, they confirm their intellect by making comments such as "there is no excuse for someone in this country,(especially a President),to not know this".

And many LWers who made it a point to post all of the Bushisms.. post pictures of him next to monkeys making similar expressions.. make a big deal over whether he was in Alabama when he said he was 30 years ago.. mocked his faith.. followed around and reported on the private lives of his teenage daughters, etc... are now whining and crying that people are being critical of the current President and wondering why we can't keep the discussion on a more civil level... well to you LWers I say... boo freakin' hoo. You want to change the tone in Washington... you should have thought of that when the Rs were in power and you and your supporters were running around acting like idiots.. karma is a biotch.
I'm not sure if you know this mac.. But a person doesn't have to be a RWer to dislike Obama or his policies..... Just thought I'd point that out because there are some extreme LWers that don't care for some of his policies either...
I'm a middle of the road, leaning R kinda person on some issues, L leaning on others... and not everything Obama does excites me...
I just thought I'd let you know that labeling isn't 100% accurate....

mac in the context of your posts, I believe that you think anybody who voted for Bush and/or McCain is a RWer with all of the negative connotations you give to that name...
Similarly, you have grouped anybody who has challenged any of Obama's policies or actions in as a RWer...
Quote: labeling makes it easier for LWers with a sub-10 IQ to get their point across.
Yes, and it's equally true of RWers with a sub-10 IQ as well...
I was specifically responding to this comment from mac...

Daman, I respect your desire to play Switzerland in most political debates, touting yourself as a neutral with opinions that appeal to and oppose both sides.. I get it and if that's who you are, wonderful.
mac hurls insults at me, I can hurl them back without you putting your "all sides are equal" spin on it.
OH darn. I'm sorry DC,, for whatever reason, I thought you were responding to me..., Whoops,,
Carry on
OH wait, you were responding to me..
As for me being Switzerland,, you know DC.. if you really honestly and truly believe that one side has all the answers and the other side are a bunch of idiots,,, then man are you in for more disappointment..
It's clear that both political parties have some Good folks and some complete idiots..
So to sit there and say that someone like me, who looks at both sides and decides what he likes and dislikes is weak or can't make up thier minds is rather insulting..
So if you want to talk about hurling insults,, careful,, your glass house is showing.....

That would be all fine and good Daman if you actually picked those things every now and then instead of coming off undecided and vague all of the time and on every issue....
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????

Obviously, you don't pay attention..
1. I think my opinion is clear about the subject of this thread 2. I think my opinion is clear on the thread about guns
That's the only two recent issues that come to mind where I have a clear opinion. I'm still feeling things out on Health Care.. But so far, what I've found is that it isn't as rosey as the Dems say, and the Republicans are making it out to be the devil when it's not., Eventually, I'll sort it out. I'm not like others that jump to conclusions based along party lines.. but feel free to do that if you wish..
If I've missed something, tell me what specifically you are talking about..

Let me rephrase that for you.. to sit there and say that someone like me, who has a D or an R beside their name, is incapable of looking at both sides and just sees and does what the party tells us to is equally insulting... and this insinuation has been made about 8 million times by the "free thinking" independents on the board...
And for the record, being compared to Switzerland is hardly an insult.. beautiful scenery, hot women, no threat of war...
