Here's a scenario I thought they should try. Who's to say they wouldn't have last season had Rogers not been out w/ injury. I would like it, but my concern is what happens when Rubin is tired. With Rogers and Rubin both starting, we wouldn't have much for a backup nose.

I have been saying this since we got Rogers. He should be a DE, we need a pure NT to eat up blocks, not a gap jumping boom or bust guy like Rogers.

That is my only concern, albeit a fairly huge concern as well. We would have no one who could fill in as a back up nose tackle with both of them starting.
Is there anyone in FA that could fit that bill? Henderson is more of a DE and I do not know of anyone else left in FA other than him that fits the 3-4 DL.

I really can't think of anyone. I think, at most, we will see Rogers at end occasionally, and not full time.

I'm sure it would be some kind of rotationa where Ruben and Rogers wouldn't be on the sidelines at the same time. More than likely when both are in Rogers will be at end. When one is on the sideline then the other will be at the nose.

Your assuming they will be in on every play at the same time. Do you really see the whole defensive line take a breather at the same time?

it would be an issue though if they get 'stuck' on the field and the opposing team goes hurry-up which doesn't allow for DL substitutions. a crafty HC could take advantage.
otherwise, you rotate out the DL tired or not just to ensure it doesn't happen. it's an interesting experiment at the very least. i do wish we had a better backup NT to truly implement it though.

It would also be an issue if a team did exactly what your describing and one of them was on the bench.
If they are your best option then they should be on the field.

I'm not saying too much on this as I usually don't till TC...but I would imagine Rubin will start until Rodgers situation is cleared up..U know he's going to get some sort of discipline/suspension....

They seemed to handle it ok when Rogers was out and Rubin was in full time....no reason to think they couldn't handle it again....
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

e.g. Is it really being looked at, or is this just Grossi guessing that we might do it?

The front office has been talking about putting Rogers at end during every offseason since we acquired him. Crennel was the first to talk about it.
Kind of makes me wonder why he never quite made it to that spot.

I recall the occasional reporter parroting about it.
I don't recall anyone in the Front Office, nor on the Coaching staff, ever talk about it.
Not saying they haven't as my memory is as bad as most and worse than many ... but I don't recall anyone actually with the team ever talking about it.

We have two guys that can play NT,just stick Haynesworth at end.

Do you think IF Rogers didnt get caught with a gun, we would have traded him? I do!!
I think after the gun thing happened, Rogers was worth more on the team then getting probably a 5th round pick for him.
Before the gun we probably could hav gotten a 2 or 3 for him (probably)
After the gun he was worth more on the team... then picking up some 4th string/practice squad linebaker or something in the 5th round.

The way I see it, Ryan can use the 46 with Rubin and Rogers on the field together. I would like to add that Robaire is going to be another year removed from his injury.He is getting older, but he is a good player. Rubin, Rogers, Smith, and Coleman sound like a nice four man front.

Why not Rogers the nose on passing downs where his inside disruption style plays well and a DE on run downs. Rubin nose on run downs. let Both play to their strengths.

I see nothing that indicates that. Our draft pretty much centered on upgrading our secondary. Now whether they changed their draft strategy "because" of the gun incident is anybody's guess. I mean our DL depth isn't exactly stellar IMO after the starters.

Unless his incident altered their draft plans completely, which I don't think it did, I think the idea was pure message board speculation IMO
