Konerko is fat slob? Konerko is 6'2" 220. Why are you sick of seeing him, dude is on pace for almost 50 jacks.

The only thing you said that would make baseball even remotely more interesting for me is the salary cap and leveling the playing field that way.
I would also think that if you wanted to fix baseball (or make it more fun to watch), instead of eliminating the DH you would implement it in both leagues.. yes, watching fat slobs like Konerko isn't fun but its better than watching fat slobs like David Wells try to bat.. at least Konerko and Ortiz can hit homeruns once in a while.
Baseball just does a really crappy job of marketing its product. Football has a great mix of marketing teams as well as marketing individual players and getting hyped about the draft and all of the offseason stuff... Basketball does less team marketing but does a great job of marketing its stars no matter where they are.. LeBron, Kobe, Carmello, Durant, Chris Paul, DWade.. big market, small market, doesn't matter.. great players are household names. Who gets marketed in baseball? The Yankees.. that's really about it.... who are the great up and coming baseball stars? who knows.. that Strausburg kid is pitching tonight.. that should be as big a news story as Matt Stafford or Mark Sanchez getting their first start but it won't be... it would be if Strausburg played for the Yankees though......

Well yea, he has to play at least 2 seasons in DC first, this one and at least one more where he comes close to winning the Cy Young.. then at the trade deadline in 2012, the Nats can trade him to the Yankees for some prospects so they can be good in 2015..

nationals are in a much different situation than the Indians. DC is big with a lot of $$$.
they have a ton of $$$ that they are not yet tapping into. once they get Strasburg and Bryce into their regular lineups and start getting close, Washington will quickly become one of the top third revenue producers.

This is been a huge story. It's all any ESPN and MLB network has been talking about for 2 days. I hope the kid lives up to the hype.

I was excited to see this game tonight, have been waiting all week, the MLB Network has been promoting it big time. Finally comes gametime and Im getting the Mets and Pads.
I picked up tickets for the Sunday game against the Tribe though (his next start) so all is not lost.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Bud Selig.
seriously, when the NFL network had a possible playoff implicating game on the NFLN a couple years ago, they made sure they broadcast it for free so that everyone that wanted to see it could.
it's important that fans get to see the games they want to see in order to continue interest in your sport. this Strasburg start should have been one of those instances, that is sad.
MLB-Radio is only $19.95 for the year though. get all the local guys too (my saving grace for Indians games).

That was the Pats-Giants game where the Pats went for the perfect regular season.

He has quite possibly the sharpest break I have ever seen on a curve. The fact that he pumps 98 MPH with movement isn't fair

That's nuts!! I live in San Diego, and still got the Nats/Pirates feed ... then again Strasburg is from SD, so I guess that's a tough call.
Kid is amazing though!

Figures the Indians' bats would go off on the night when Masterson pitches 8 innings of shutout ball. Speaking of, he's looked great tonight. Without question by far his best outing of the season.

he had to make shapiro look good for all the people whining we didn't get the 'other' pitcher bucholz for victor last year.
if masterson continues to put it together, he can be pretty darn good

Nice.
Can't believe they rallied for a win in the bottom of the 9th last night to split the Boston series.

Did I hear the announcers right last night that Kerry Wood still doesn' t have a save this year? Nice to see Branyan earning some of that money too.

It was a very nice split, but we should've taken 3 out of 4. I was at the game Tuesday night, and Crowe had an absolutely spectacular diving catch, but the ball he dropped may have been the worst drop I've seen in awhile. And it led to 3 unearned runs.

http://www.cleveland.com/ohio-sports-blog/index.ssf/2010/06/cliff_lee_may_join_the_new_yor.htmlWouldn't this just be perfect to see both CC and Cliff Lee pitching for the Yankees. As if its not bad enough to lose both of them, they both end up on the same team??? Sometimes being an Indians fan is just no fun at all. Anyways, Santana played a very solid game tonight behind the plate from what i saw. Unfortunately I didn't get to see any of his ABs. The Indians might actually flirt with a sellout on Sunday with Strasburg (sp?) pitching and now Santana finally here. Also, I listened to the Indians post game show, and Santana will be catching Carmona instead of Redmond. They are going to let this kid play, and I like that.

Don't blame yourself, don't blame Cleveland, don't blame anybody but the worst owner in baseball. - My wife talked me into going to the game last night, - First and last Indians game this year. It was so upsetting watching Victor Martinez playing hard for the Red Sox. - That is the kind of guy that is worth going to the ballpark 10 times a year to go see play. - But Dolan had to get rid of him. - Dolan has no respect for us fans, or for the city of Cleveland. If he did, he would have done everything he could have to resign Lee, or Sabathia. - Instead, he trades everybody to save a couple bucks.
Don't give me this small market jargon. Look at what Dan Gilbert is doing right now. - He doesn't know what Lebron plans on doing, but he offered Izzo a nice deal. Why? Because he respects the people of Cleveland, and because he holds himself accountable as an owner. - Not like Larry Dolan, who profits regardless of what happens on the field, and doesn't care about what happens on it.
Look at Randy Lerner. - People stop coming to games, people stop renewing their season tickets. How does he respond? By giving Mike Holmgren a huge contract to get the Browns over the hump.
We shouldn't have to watch Lee and Sabathia play for the Yankees. This scum of an owner needs to forced out!

Trading Martinez was the easiest call Shipiro ever had to make. Sure Victor was a fan favorite, but he's a one dimensional player that is getting older, and quite frankly isn't worth the money he would be asking for. Masterson just pitched a 2 hit shutout, and people still dwell on past players. I don't get it. CC, Lee are long gone. I'm interested in SAntana, Masterson, Laporta, Alex White, Hagadone, Chisenhall among others. Those players hopefully will make the indians a winner in the next few years.
As bad as people rip on the front office, we're not nearly as bad as the orioles, or teams like the mariners, and cubs who have 100 million plus payrolls with nothing to show for it. We may not have a good record this year, but the team plays hard, and is developing younger players for the future. I have no doubt in my mind, we will be contenders in the not too distant future.

don't forget Pomeronz and Washington and I understand the dwelling on Lee and CC because those trades aren't bearing fruit yet. when you develop talent and lose them, you want to see some good young talent in return at least. the Lee deal still might bear fruit, but the CC one isn't looking good (let's hope LaPorta continues on his AAA tear and brings it up a level). now, the Victor trade...we have Masterson with a 1.69 ERA in his last 3 starts. Shut down one of the best hitting teams in MLB (Red Sox). Our best SO pitcher in the majors (by far). He 'could' become a very legit #2 starter. He seems on his way.

I think it's only a matter of time with Laporta. He hit another homer tonight giving him 5 in 3 games since the demotion to columbus. Once they trade branyan, he will play every day. I know I listened to pluto's podcast, and he said Matt was still recovering from his 2 surgeries this past offseason. that may have caused the slow start to the season.

Strasburg was impressive today ... great command of a 99-100 MPH fastball (with sinking action), a 90 MPH change-up, and a low 80's curve.
Hafner hit a bomb - didn't see if it was a fastball or not - but he turned on a ball and roped it out.
Two pet peeves: 1. Strasburg had a different strike zone than David Huff ... he was getting respect from the ump that Roger Clemens in his prime might get ... a rookie shouldn't get that. In the meantime, the ump was squeezing Huff all game long. 2. Huff can't pitch ahead in the count. He gets to 0-2 or 1-2 on a hitter and almost always serves up a lollypop. He got hurt today by Morse on an 0-2 pitch. That drives me nuts ... you should own a hitter when you have them 0-2.
