Hartwig seems like a guy who we should look at as a backup center.

Really? Javon Walker? This isn't 2004 anymore. Matt Jones? Well maybe if the NFL will let us negotiate a contract to pay him in cocaine and alcohol.

I'm assuming he (Walker) was injured for most of 2008 and all of 2009. Regardless, he's played in the past two preseason games for the Vikings and has totaled 6 catches, 119 yards and 2 TDs. Someone on their last legs doesn't put those up, even if it's fifth stringers he's playing against. If he wants to continue playing, he'll find a job. He's a year younger than Furrey was for us last season, and he offered quite a bit of fringe help.

As for Matt Jones, as far as I'm concerned, he's proven he can be a decent receiver when he's healthy, in shape, and clean. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume all three are true for him right now. He did nothing of note for the Bengals in the preseason, but all I said in the first place was "fringe, veteran ability".

The truth is, Engram isn't much of a step above Jones and Walker, so we, as Browns fans, can't talk down those two.

wait.. didn't we draft Isaac Sowells? why is he considered a "notable" cut..

and we should snag up Dezmon Briscoe too.. I guess they are hoping he makes it to the PS.

Guys around here like to rag on players for wanting their deals re-done when they still have a few years left, but this right here is the flip side of the coin. The teams don't honor contracts when it isn't good for them to do so, so why do we hold players to a different standard?

Alex Gibbs, the Seahawks offensive line coach, cut himself.

Pretty crazy to have such a big name coach quit a week before the 1st game.

Maybe they hire Leinart to be their new O-Line Coach...?

Eagles trade former Bengal Stacy Andrews to the Seahawks.

Good thing they have an awesome O-Line coach...

Let's say Engram is equal to those 2 guys talent-wise. He is weeks ahead knowing the system and he is much higher character guy than either of those two. AND Engram is on the bubble. You make no case for Jones except that you recognize the guy's name. As for Walker, one preseason game against the dregs of the Broncos is a point but hardly a glowing endorsment.

Brother, in no way did I say we should run out and sign Javon Walker. Let's look back at what I said:

Quote:

Matt Jones and Javon Walker, if healthy and in shape, can be a solid pickup for a team. Whether that team is us or not, I don't know. Engram appears to be ready to offer fringe veteran ability as is.

Of course Engram has a leg up on Jones and Walker. He's been under Holmgren in the past, and he's been here for a few weeks.

Vis-a-vis Matt Jones, I said he's proven himself to be a solid WR when he's healthy and clean. It's not just a matter of "recognizing his name". People rag on him for his personal issues (and rightfully so), and label him a colossal bust. As Browns fans, we know "colossal buts". Matt Jones isn't quite that. He can still provide a decent fringe pickup for someone.

Of course Bobby Engram is the better choice than those two. My point was there are two cuts from around the NFL who could provide decent enough production to a team desperate to pick up a fringe veteran.

That's it. I never proclaimed Javon Walker should waltz in to Cleveland and push Robiskie off the map.

Bad time to be a Cardinal receiver.
And fan.

Well, bad time once they get in the red zone.

DA will lead them to the 20, and may even throw some bombs for long TDs.

But after that, it's anybody's guess.

Glad it's their problem now.

Ouch. Snead gets bad info, leaves for draft, goes undrafted. Then on the same day he should be starting for his college team he gets cut and his team loses to Jacksonville State.

I still truly believe DA has the chance to set the Cardinals single season record for TD passes .. but it will only come if he also sets the single season record for Int's too ...

he is a poor mans brett favre ... doesnt have the smarts, the leadership, or the levis ...

High point of his career ... 37 catches in 2006.

Hard to believe that he's hung around for 5 years. He's had 26 catches total in the past 3 years.

Yeah... Troy Williamson makes Braylon Edwards look like Jerry Rice. Blazing fast, but maybe the worst hands I've seen on a WR in a long time.

If you sign for the BIG MONEY you better play up to it. remember a BIG MONEY top three in the 2003 draft who went by that name and NEVER lived up to it. If you sign for Big Money, Leinhart, TJ who'seyour mamma, ect...you better play up to the contract if you don't you get kicked to the curb. I remember nice Guy Courtney brown unwilling to take a pay cut to then sign with Denver. get hurt and be out of the league in a year.

From the pages of Cuts Across The League .........

Some names of some interest to me ......

Jacques Reeves, CB Formerly with the Texans. He's got experience and could be a solid 4th CB.

Tank Tyler, formerly with Carolina, could make a good backup NT if the Browns decide to move Rogers to DE full time.

Chevic Jackson, CB, formerly with the Falcons, could be a nice 4th CB.

Eagles must be very confident in their OG depth, trading Stacy Andrews and cutting Max Jean-Gilles who started about 16 games in the last 3-4 years. I think I remember some dawgs pimping Max when he was in the draft a few years ago - he has ridiculous size, 6-4 354.

I think the problem is that your original post about Jones and Walker came in reply to my reply to another poster who stated:

Quote:

With a LOT of quality WR being cut today, I can't see where it would hurt to pick one of them up.

Guess I thought you were trying answer me when I asked for a few examples. I would not consider Jones or Walker quality (well maybe shabby quality).

Oh lordy, the Cardinal's coach is more comfortable with Derek Anderson and 2 rookie qb's over keeping Leinart? WOW. That's a kick in the teeth for Leinart. What's everyone's take on that?

Watching ESPN right now and really surprised that Leinart is gonna be without a team.

Yeah he definately would.

I thought Macho Harris was gonna have a bright future in Phili, but I guess not. I would love to bring him in just for the simple fact that his name is Macho, thats a total bad ass name. I bet the guy shaves with a rusty axe and whipes his butt brillo pads.

It looks like the Jean-Gilles cut was just a procedural move by the Eagles because they were unable to complete the Andrews trade before the 6 PM deadline. They intend to re-sign him today, and although he is a free agent for the moment, it appears from this article that he's inclined to stay an Eagle.

Yeah, he's not going anywhere.

The Eagles needed a roster spot because they didn't get the Andrews trade done on time and would have been over the roster limit.

Besides .... where would we play Giles anyway? He's a Guard ..... and we do have depth at Guard with our starters and Womack. I doubt that he"d come here to be a backup.
