If we hit on 3 out of the 4 picks we had in the 1st/2nd round, I'll be perfectly happy.
Mack looks like he'll be a star. Massaquoi looks to be above average. Robiske looks like he could become a capable starter.
No draft is 100% perfect. We also added Benard who looks like he could be everthing that Veikune wasn't.
So, from last year we have:
1) Mack 2) Massaquoi 2) Robiske 4) Maiva 6) Davis
We have waived: 2) Veikune 6) Carey (Injured and lost last year) 6) Francies
I look at some guys drafted around Veikune .... like William Moore, Fili Moala, Paul Kruger, and others who have done nothing so far ..... and it really is a pick 'em and hope for the best.

Roberson is better than Lawson or MacDonald or Francies? Really. I remember having cornerback depth at some point not long ago.
I was kinda hoping we'd pick up myron rolle.

Roberson will probably be our 5th CB.
He might not even be active on some gamedays.

good point. We also picked up Roth on waivers and Trunsik in the trade.
If anyone had the secret to picking a perfect draft they'd win the Super Bowl every year.

Roberson? Really...Roberson?
How disgusted must the Browns and FO be with McDonald to cut his arse...then backfill w/ Roberson?
Wow.
The Veikune cut? Meh...whatever.

I'm thinking more, he was at Tampa, so they're just trying to pick his brain,...

I know. I'm just surprised he beat out Francies, Lawson, & MacDonald. At least from a pure talent standpoint, I don't think he beats any of those three.

Remind me not to think about the fact that the starting right tackle for the Viking was on the Board when we took Veikune.
I'll think about it since I had him on my board....but thats on Gini..

Lance your boils and get back to werk. Wish he was wunnerful, but hopefully we are still accumulating better folx. STILL have many LBs. How many do 34s usually keep on roster? Or is it dominoes and we hope to add back PS players for development?

Francies never showed anything on the field. At all. He also hd some attitude issues from what I have read.
Lawson was a willing and hard working guy ..... but a huge liability on the field on defense.
McDonald was McDonald. A guy who jumps a route for a spectacular knockdown one play, then jumps completely out of position on the next play allowing a 75 yard TD. Not many guys who refuse to play within the discipline of the defense will play for Mangini.
I can live with that.

Well if I were Derreck Robinson I wouldn't be looking for a new home just yet.

he was not on the active gameday roster for more than 9 games last year, so by my reading of the rules, yes

Not a big surprise there. I wonder who replaces him on the roster?
Aha,

Cleveland Browns waived 2009 second-round pick David Veikune Published: Tuesday, September 07, 2010, 4:19 PM Updated: Tuesday, September 07, 2010, 4:21 PM
CLEVELAND -- The Browns have conceded the David Veikune experiment won't be working out.
They waived the 2009 second-round pick to make room for cornerback Derrick Roberson, an undrafted player who's been on the practice squad of three teams.
Veikune was the 52nd overall pick of the 2009 draft. He played defensive end at Hawaii and was tried at both outside and inside linebacker. He played in 10 games as a rookie and was not credited with a tackle.
Roberson, 5-10 and 180 pounds, appeared in six games with Tampa Bay last year.
The transaction decreases the imbalance on the Browns' roster. They now have 11 linebackers and four cornerbacks.
The team also confirmed it was awarded offensive lineman Steve Vallos off waivers from Seattle and waived swingman Billy Yates.
ACHEM!! Time for some Crow Stew. Been saying this since LAST TC! Its about freaking time we cut our losses, glad Heckert is keeping Mangini's pride/Ego in check. Dude is a bum. Glad he's gone. No need to apologize my gloating will be enough.

Well you hate to waste such a high draft pick but it's better than keeping him just because he was a high draft pick. At least this way we might get someone in there that can help up more than he did.

Tremendous foresight. Since our rebirth, if you came on after every draft and said every player would suck (without even knowing their names) and that they would be out of the NFL in short order, you would have been right 96.5% of the time.. so saying a draft pick sucked and you called it is hardly a reason for strutting around with your chest puffed out...

and here is the requisite request for you to show where anybody said more than to give him time to see if he could develop rather than burying him right off the bat.
Veikune is a massive disappointment, obviously. especially given our need at LB. we gave me a season to develop, he didn't enough to warrant a roster spot, we will see if he did enough for a spot on the PS or not.
nothing more, nothing less. enjoy being right about another Browns failed draft pick.

j/k......We took a chance on viekune....didnt work out, you could go down every single roster in the NFL and find every team has missed on a high pick..it happens...remember the draft is a roll of the dice, Cribbs wasnt even drafted........i'm just glad Heckart had the nads to say, bad pick good-bye move on

Exactly.. I don't remember ANYBODY dancing for joy that we drafted him.. about the best he got was a "Let's wait and see, I hope he works out, I think I saw something positive the other day"...

I wanted to see what he could do this year in pre-season because he had been talked up so much. He never really stood out though.
If I need to eat crow over that ... then I will with a side order of disappointent that a 2nd round pick didn't work out.

Do we still have 2 spots available? I think he might just get one of those spots.

You would have thought it would be less, but he is credited with 10 games.
Therefore not eligible.

Yeah, and the fact that noone else on here has pushed Heckert or Geni out of a job. Keep trying though.
