With all the talk about how bad our WRs are I decided to take a peek at who was available. Here's a list of available WRs that have shown they have decent talent in the league.
Reggie Brown 5 years 177 catches 2574 yards 17 tds in Philly Michael Clayton 6 years 221 catches 2936 yards 10 tds in TB Laveranues Coles 10 years (43 catches 514 yards 5tds last year in Cin) Torry Holt 11 years (51 catches 722 yards last year in Jac) Josh Reed 8 years 311 catches 3575 yards 10 tds in Buf Bobby Wade 8 years (176 catches 2120 yards 9 tds last 4 years in KC, Min, and Ten)
None of these guys are world beaters. Coles and Holt are near the end of their careers but can still produce. I would think that any of these guys could help us.
Brown and Clayton were cut by TB, Coles is most likely done and was cut by the Jets, Holt injured his knee (didn't remember that one), Reed was cut by SD, and Wade was released by Was.
Not sure where you saw Clayton hurt his knee. He was a disappointment in TB after they took him in the 1st and they took 2 wrs in the draft this year.

None of these guys are getting paid right now.
Might be better to say: None of these guys are PLAYING on a NFL team right now b/c no one wanted them.
But yes, let's send the Browns private jet out to see if they want to come to Berea on Monday and that will surely fix this season and many more to come.
That's why I thought it might be a good idea to take a look at adding another WR. Mass and Robo have a combined 5 catches through 3 games. Stuckey has 5 and Cribbs has 10.
The last two games our WR not named Cribbs have a combined 3 catches.
According to Bernie the problem is our WR getting open not the QB.
Well to be fair, Bernie Kosar is admittedly biased towards the QB
And also, Laverneus Coles was cut by the Jets because if he was on their roster for the first week of the season he was guaranteed his full salary and they didn't want to take the salary hit. I thought they were going to bring him back some time this year, but maybe not. He had a pretty good camp and preseason.

NRTU; it's funny that Kosar said last year at this time that receivers were getting open. I thought differently. this year he's bashing our WRs and finally, is now seeing what I see.
The grass always seems a little greener somewhere else.
At this point it is what it is. I don't think all of the 31 other teams in the league are manned by incompetents. If any other these guys brought any real value as a last spot roster filler, they would be filling a roster spot.
I do think we need to do something with the position, but maybe it can be done internally. I haven't seen Stucky used much and he was looking good in pre-season...let's give Michael a few plays a game.
The problem is Robo....he can't get open and unlike MoMass, doesn't have the size which gives Mo some advantage on almost any ball thrown his way.
The new guy...can't think of his name at the moment.... is another who should get worked in to the mix.
I'd start playing Stuckey, Michael, and the new guy a lot more to look for the compliment to Mo and play Robo a lot less.
When Robo was drafted it was assumed by me and I know some others the guy was going to be a slot/possession option....not a split end. Start playing him in that role...maybe he can beat safeties and nickels, or backers in the short zone.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Robiske is actually an inch taller than Massaquoi.
Do you mean Mitchell, and not Michael? If you meant Mitchell, he was out with some sort of head injury this week. I hope that he can develop .... but he is RAW. Still .. speed is speed ... and I bet he could get open. Whether or not he can catch the ball though ......
I am going to say one thing that will, no doubt, be flamed like crazy ..... but I would take Cribbs off of WR duty. I would use him instead 4-7 snaps/game at wildcat/RB/Mix the formations up .... and get him back to being a premiere kick returner. I know that doesn't leave a lot at WR ..... but we haven't had a lot at WR even with him. It seems like the few throws that used to go to Massaquoi are now going to Cribbs ...... but nothing is really opening up for anyone. I just think that this would be a better use of his abilities. He has to ba able to throw out of the Wildcat though ..... because right now we telegraph the Wildcat bigtime.
One twist I would like to see on the Wildcat if we keep Cribbs at WR is have Hillis in the backfield in a standard type set. Then motion Hillis out wide to a 5 wide look, and then motion Cribbs to the backfield. I can see this causing us some problems until we practice the timing./set bugs out of it ...... but man this would cause defenses major problems trying to figure out what's going on. We could then snap to Cribbs ..... keep him in to block ...... throw to him out of the backfield ...... or hand it off to him and either have him run or pass from that position. Mayhem! I just think it would be better than tipping our hand with formation having him line up in the backfield.
If Cribbs is our best playmaker, we should have him moving all over the offensive set making teams try to figure out where he is, and is going. Right now he is just lining up ..... and frankly, I don't think that he's a good enough WR to be "just" a WR.

Hell, bring back Bobby Engram... though it won't do any good. Seneca doesn't throw to WR's. Chansey Stucki gets open and doesn't even get a wiff of the ball. Someone needs to teach Seneca how to throw a play action, or a slant, or a crossing pattern, maybe an in, or an out. When was the last time we saw any of that? What good does it do to bring in WRs when they never get passes thrown to them?

I think our WR will look better once we get Delhomme back in there. Wallace has done a good job, he's done a backups job. But I think with Delhomme back in the mold he will be able to hit those guys downfield and on the sidelines. That's if he is healthy when they bring him back, neither of these guys are our future but I think Delhomme will do a better job while we try and find that guy. Be it McCoy or someone we have yet to draft.

He can run those too, if they get called. We're still not playing to our strengths, as weak as they are,...
