My problem with putting Sipe on the list is that it shows how thin the list really is. I loved watching Sipe in the late 70s but when looking objectively, he had 2 or 3 years where he played close to what would be considered "franchise" level.. and that isn't good enough in my book.. when people think of "franchise" qbs, you don't think of the guys that had 2 or 3 really good years..

I got some bad news here,...Kosar was good a lot longer than Sipe, but really only had 3 "great" years himself -- the ones in each where we ultimately lost AFC Title Games to Denver.

So if anyone wants to get technical, OldSkool is on to something,....we haven't had ANY franchise QB since Otto Graham,....depending on one's own definition. I particularly liked Frank Ryan and Billy Nelsen, too.

Still stay Kosar was, and Sipe was not drafted to be,....but anyhow, it makes the point, and begs the question -- is this what we are "missing " for The Big Fix ?

Guess one must define franchise QB?

Is a franchise QB someone who no matter how the rest of the team plays always finds a way to get the win?
Or is it someone who plays above average consistently, and even on their off days they still have enough to "not lose" a game.

Kosar maybe didn't always have winning seasons, but I don't recall him being the reason we lost either.\

One player can only do so much by themselves, so even a franchise QB doesn't equate to wins.

Yes, Hardesty is a big question mark, but I don't think we'll do a thing at RB with Hillis and Harrison until we see what we have in Hardesty.

I think after the last 2 games, Jerome Harrison already has his bags packed for this offseason.

I'd like to keep him. having a smaller, faster back is always good to have and with Hillis' style, he won't be able to keep it up for a ton of season - see Marion Barber. But, Harrison will want a starting chance and with Hillis and Hardesty that won't be here.

Question Time:

1. Do you believe a current NFL team can make it through the playoffs and lift the Lombardi without a "Franchise QB"? In other words, do you think there is a possibility of another "Dilfer anomoly" happening? (ps. if saragusa's 400 pound butt didn't sit on Gannon and cheap shot him out of the game the rats never would have won against the Raiders IMO).

Please look at all the playoff teams over the past few years, and look at the games before you say no. The NFL has changed. The rule changes have changed the game.

2. What would you be willing to give up to get a "FDanchise QB"? Holmgren admitted that Bradford could be had, but it was really expensive.

3. If you think Luck can even lift Bradford's jock, then tell me specifcally why. Please. I've watched Luck for the past 3 weeks. I'd rather not be specific yet, but if you can give me specifics, I'd like to hear them.

When I suggested that I thought we had to sell the farm to get Bradford I took a lot of heat. I watched him yesterday. The whole package. Even his arm looked stronger than we thought (he was throwing in a dome however). Sanchez isn't even on the same planet as he is at this time -- He does everything better.

Of course, if you think we can make it through the playoffs by pounding the ball then none of this matters. Steelers were mediocre, we let Ben slip through our hands, (I and others pimped him, took some heat), now we have to put up with them for another 7 years.

Listen, you guys were right. It didn't matter if we had a top quarterback if we didn't have the O line to protect him. This line is beginning to look pretty good.

So, where do we go from here? Can we win without a Brees, Manning, Warner, Rogers, Favre, Rothlisberger, Brady, (I want to add Bradford to this list just to tick a few off), etc.... If you think we can please explain and be specific.

If your banking on Luck it could run out.

How would YOU fix this team?

Bring back the Browns a year earlier, Draft Peyton Manning.

Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?
