he wasnt promoted for more obvious reasons:

The main one being the coaches didn't think he could outplay Ventrone and Nick Sorenson

That's seems obvious to an astute Browns fans, but only the Coach's and FO know the truth of that. That's why you see so much movement of players on the PS.
Other teams want to look and see what's under the hood.

Asante has the unknown factor to would be buyers.

I think Sabby Piscitelli was doomed from the first comparisons to John Lynch in TB.

Lynch is an icon in the Bay area.

I trust that the Heckert and the Coaching staff see more potential in him then they did in Asante.
If he sticks around he will first have to cut his teeth on the ST's I think.

Asante couldn't win a spot on the ST's, because with those roster spots this also comes with the job, like Sorenson and Ventrone or Smith or Mitchell or Norwood. You can only dress 45 minus your emergency QB.

And King can play corner where Asante could not, so imb that's the end of that argument.

j/c...

This Asante/Piscitelli thing smacks of a clandestine trade in my mind. Hope we don't find the Browns and Bucs being investigated for anything untoward.

Browns awarded Piscitelli

Posted 5 hours ago
The Browns were awarded defensive back Sabby Piscitelli off waivers from Tampa Bay.

The Cleveland Browns were awarded defensive back Sabby Piscitelli off waivers from Tampa Bay, the team announced today.

Originally drafted by Tampa Bay in the second round (64th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft, Piscitelli has appeared in 45 career games with 20 starts, recording five interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. This season, he appeared in all 11 games with the Buccaneers, totaling 13 tackles and one interception. He was waived by Tampa Bay on November 30, 2010.

Piscitelli started 36 of his 48 career games at Oregon State (2003-06), where he totaled 178 tackles, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, one sack and tied for second in school history with 15 interceptions. Born on August 24, 1983, the 6-3, 225-pound Piscitelli is a native of Boca Raton, Fla., where he attended Boca Raton High School.

He will wear number 28.

I am sure he would.

To Steve's point.....I think you are worried too much.

We say you sign Asante and you cut scabby or whatever the heck is name is....if we were first on the waiver priority list, maybe, but we aren't...I am not sure where we are, but we aren't first.

Any of the teams above us could have picked him up before we could.

No way could the NFL investigate the Browns and Bucs of making a illegal trade.

The Bucs simply gave up on the guy and Asante was on their draft board last year....so, why not take a look.

We saw who they released and decided he filled a need.

End of story.

Heckert has been doing this a long time. Piscatelli was a 2nd rounder just a few years ago. It may be that he liked him coming out of school and he was drafted before Heckert could pull the trigger for the Eagles.

And perhaps Francies has a newfound motivation after the UFL. He definately had the physical side, maybe just needed a kick in the pants that getting cut and realizing "holy !@#!@ I may have to figure out how I'm going to make money" will give you.

There are 7 teams with worse records than us, and we have the same record as Minnesota.

That would take a whole lotta collusion.

Apparently we are addressing some of our issues for the 2011 run. I don't know this individual's game at all
(college or otherwise). Is he good? is he a "was good"? Wikipedia assures me the man is not a pasta.
Welcome aboard, dude! Be a great Brown. Play your guts out & leave 'em on the field.

I figure I feel more comfortable with him on the field than Ventrone and Sorenson.

Sorenson, 1/3 of what I call the 3 stooges of Special Teams, is still here.

Just in case you'd like to know the other 2 stooges are Costanzo, who's on IR, and Ventrone.

Piscitelli was drafted with the last pick in the 2nd round, pick 64.

That was the draft when we took Thomas and Quinn.

We took Eric Wright with our 2nd round pick, pick 53 (the one we got from Dallas).

Philly took Kolb in the 2nd round, pick 36 as well as Victor Abiamiri with pick 57.

So, who knows if Heckert liked Piscitelli or not. Seems like he likes him now, though!

He liked him enough to put in a waiver claim.

The guy is on a "show me" 4 1/2 week audition.

He was touted as a fast, quick player who delivers a big hit and who studies his ass off in the film room. He was also touted as a really solid tackler. That has obviously slipped. He was also reportedly too aggressive at times, and would get caught out of position.

It seems like the kid would be a solid blitzer, and I bet we see some of him in that role, even starting this weekend against Miami.

I would add that this "could be" exciting, because if he can show some good things in his extended try-out, a Safety corps of Ward, Elam, (whose play has really improved a lot this season) Adams and a revitalized Piscitelli could be a very good group.

I do have to say that, while Elam still leaves me frustrated at times, I agree that his play has improved. Earlier this season, I couldn't stand to see him out there. Now, for me at least, he's settled into the "I don't even pay attention to him, which is a good thing" category.

Hell, he's making plays.

In the last 2 weeks he has combined for 12 solo tackles, 1 assist, 2 sacks, 1 INT, and 1 forced fumble.

The 2 weeks prior, he had 4 tackles agains the Jets and then 7 solo tackles, 1 assist, and 1 forced fumble against the Patriots.

For a quarter of the season, that's 23 solo tackles, 2 assists, 2 saacks, 1 INT and 2 forced fumbles. That's an impressive little run. (and a couple of those tackles have been for loss IIRC)

I hope he is a better fit in our system (like Roth was last year) and
Shows some promise at the Safety/ST positions and not merely a pipe dream.

But he should feel at home in no time
With Mangini, Costanzo and Ventrone, add Piscitelli and you have what sounds like a law firm for the mob
