they've done quirkier things... and yet, they stay at or near the top of the league.

At this point, it wouldn't surprise me either.

Wasn't it the Broncos owner that just the other day that said that McDaniels was not being fired?

Yup. And that is when the coach needs to start cleaning out his desk.

Denver is 29th in rushing offense.

I'm guessing its because they've given up on the season and they figure with this guy there will be no chance of having any controversy of should they keep him on and give him a chance or not. Everyone, I assume, understands this is a 100% temporary situation and they'll be hiring a coach this offseason.

I had a funny thought,, I bet you that Gruden is on the short list in Denver. Just a guess but his relationship with Al Davis, having once been HC of the Raiders, may make him an exciting pick for HC in Denver...

I bet you right now, Mike Shanahan is laughing his butt off..

At least until he realizes where he is now.

LOL True enough, he's not exactly lighting it up in Washington is he.

BUt then again, this is his first year and he inherited a ton of issues. Give Shanahan time, he'll turn it around.

Gruden makes alot of sense for Denver. There were really mixed reviews on Tebow. So Bowlen almost has to make a decision now with the QB. Wasted first round pick or bring in someone that believes in Tebow. McDaniels set that team back years. Gave up a solid QB and receiver that were known comodities... and then traded Hillis. wow. Then gets cought cheating. oooops.

Yes. I suspect so. Worth a look. I want Colt to have a serious OC with a vertical attack. I will take an ugly win, but the underneath &sidewinder attack is lame and old. Punt after punt.

I don't mind the underneath stuff, but I desperately want Colt to develop a good play-fake and I want us to use it regularly. Going deep when the defense is thinking Hillis is the way to go.

So..... Someone's gotta ask the question....

WHERE'S AMMO???

No way can he defend this bonehead anymore. Wow, what a mess he has created up there. But I feel no sympathy for anyone associated with the Donks. For one, they'll always be that team to me that prevented us from going to the Super Bowl, and Pat Bowlen didn't vote to keep the team in Cleveland the first time around, so screw him, too. You reap what you sow.

If I remember correctly before the draft Gruden was in love with Tebow. Saying that he will bring the spread to the NFL and things like that.

That would be an interesting fit.

I actually thought he was more in love with McCoy but I could be wrong.

Still, Gruden with Tebow in Denver...I think that would be very interesting.

There was a special with Gruden interviewing the top prospects before this last draft.

I remember him and Bradford, McCoy and Claussen,, But was the 4th guy he interviewed Tebow? I thought so anyway.

I don't disagree about the fact that he liked Colt McCoy, but this is what he said about Tebow in 2009:

Quote:

Q: The spread is being run in high schools and colleges, is it possible it could be a base offense in the NFL one day?

A: "No question. The hard part is, you have to isolate the option. That's why Tim Tebow is so interesting to me. He's like Brandon Jacobs playing quarterback. He's 250 pounds. He's the strongest human being who's ever played the position. Ever. He will kick the living [expletive] out of a defensive lineman. He'll fight anybody. He is rare. Tebow is the kind of guy who could revolutionize the game. He's the 'wildcat' who can throw. Most of the teams that have the wildcat back there, it's Ronnie Brown, it's Jerious Norwood, it's whoever you want to say it is. This guy here is 250 pounds of concrete cyanide, man. And he can throw. He throws well enough at any level to play quarterback."

Q: Most people are dismissing Tebow as a quarterback in the NFL.

A: "He can play quarterback in the NFL. When he was a high school senior, they played Armwood in the state championship game. I have tape. He has an 80-yard touchdown run that put them in the lead. When it flipped around, and Armwood had the ball, what position do you think Tebow was playing? He was playing nose guard -- and he disrupted about 10 plays. This guy is totally different. He's got Rich Gannon, Drew Brees, that kind of makeup as a team guy. What he said after the Ole Miss game, I said, 'That's my favorite football player I've ever seen in my whole life.' I said, 'I want Florida to win every game that kid plays from now on.' "

Smart man, that thought he could act like belichick. Problem was, he didn't have the rings to justify his bold moves.

Sounds very familiar to the 2009 version of Eric Mangini.

That being said I'm very happy Mangini adjusted his personality this year and seems more likeable and not so secretive regarding everything. Guess you could attribute a lot of that to Holmgren.

Overall he's a decent enough kid.Football knowledge and knowing how to win games is not his shortcoming.
Pressure, time constraints, youth and dealing with personalities was his undoing.
He'll be back sometime in the future, and with his pedigree he'll be a winner somewhere.

Urban Meyer stepping down after six seasons as Florida coach

Recommend Urban Meyer will step down as Florida coach, according to a release issued by the school. A press conference will be held at 6 p.m. ET to discuss the decision. Meyer and athletic director Jeremy Foley will be at the press conference.

Urban Meyer has won two national championships in six seasons with Florida.CAPTIONBy Kim Klement, US PresswireMeyer, 46, told Foley over the weekend that he was contemplating resigning and the two finalized the plan Tuesday. He will remain Florida's coach through the Outback Bowl in Tampa on New Year's Day.

"I have been a Division I football coach for the last 25 years and, during that time, my primary focus has been helping my teams win titles," Meyer said. "I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, and I am a fierce competitor to my core. At this time in my life, however, I appreciate the sacrifices my 24/7 profession has demanded of me, and I know it is time to put my focus on my family and life away from the field. The decision to step down was a difficult one."

Meyer, who has won two national championships and has a 64-15 record in six seasons with the Gators, announced last December that he would resign as coach due to health concerns. After 24 hours, he changed his mind and instead took a leave of absence after coaching in the Sugar Bowl.

Tests during the offseason showed chest pains Meyer was experiencing were caused by esophogeal spasms. The coach said last June that he was on medication to help the problem.

The Gators are coming off a disappointing 7-5 season that included a second-place finish in the SEC East and home losses to LSU, South Carolina and Mississippi State.

Possible replacements that will get early mention could include Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, the offensive coordinator for UF's national titles under Meyer before leaving this past year and former UF defensive coordinator Charlie Strong. Strong was named the Big East co-coach of the year in his first season at Louisville. He was also on both national title staffs.

Meyer's decision could affect the decision of Florida commit Jeff Driskel, the nation's No. 1 quarterback according to Rivals.com.

I know he is giving the reason as wanting to spend more time with his family but could this be the next coach for the Denver Broncos? He would be one guy willing to take on Tebow.

Ummm, no. If he wanted to coach the Broncos, he would leave the Gators for the Broncos. I don't think he'd 'retire' and then come back a month later as HC of Denver.

Meyer is alot of things, but he always has conducted himself with class in the past. I suspect that will continue.

Yeah, that's why he left Bowling Green in the dead of night right after saying he was there to stay as BG's coach.

I have no problem with a guy leaving for a better job but let's not make Urban out to be a saint in gator's clothing.

Yeah, that's why his nickname is Urban Liar in BG. As a BGSU alum, the guy handled his exit like a real snake in the grass. Also, his defense of Spikes finger rake to the eyes of the defenseless player at the bottom of the pile and his attempt at bullying the reporter when he was down on a player reeks of "class", eh? Sorry, not buying that one. I wonder if he would be resigning had the Gators finished better than 7-5.

Not sure if Browns fans realize it, but McDaniels is a local product from Barberton and was the QB coach for the Patriots 04-08 and was the Pats OC from 06-08.

I realize McDaniels was terrible as a HC but he might be a prospect to consider if the Browns let Daboll go.

McDaniel's won't be making my "coaches from Ohio" list anytime soon.

And, as noted above, just say NO to pass-wacky OC's for the Browns.

I have a feeling him and Hillis cant co-exist at this point. Given the choice I would take Hillis

'Born' in Barberton, but reared in Canton (went to McKinley). I am very good friends with neighbors who went to high school therewith,...he calls Canton "home." He's still local though,...

I doubt Hillis and Mangini would be very happy bringing him in here,...

McDaniels really trolled the Broncos. Bronco Fan should have been on guard when he shot them the Trollface in one of his press conferences.
