Is it me, or does a large portion of America miss the witch trial days?

Screw all this evidance, trial, reasonable doubt stuff...

Let's just start throwing people off cliffs to see if they can fly...

Some cases just get very charged with emotion, in large part because of the media sensationalism... and you need the right formula to make it media worthy since not just any old disappearance, abduction or murder is worth of this kind of media hype..

first most of the major players in the story have to be white (the victim and/or the accused) and either the accused or the victim has to be an attractive younger female... and having some level of affluence also helps bring attention to your case... Finally you need some level of mystery or intrigue to make the story really interesting...

In this case we have an adorable little white girl, allegedly killed by her attractive young white mom in a heinous way (not that there is good way to kill little kids)... The attractive young white mom is a moron of reality television proportions and we have all of this evidence that all points in one direction but most of it is circumstantial so there is the intrigue.....

And if you do not believe me that this formula exists.. go ask the families of LaToyia Figueroa or Evelyn Hernandez or Hannah Williams...

lets ask a few questions here shall we:

1. "Why would Casey lie if she didn't have anything to do with the murder?" The jury found her guilty of 4 counts of lying.

I'll answer this in a sec ...

Quote:

2. "You found Casey to be not negligent". How can a parent not be negligent if they haven't reported their child missing AFTER 30 DAYS??

I'll agree with that. Not sure how they didn't get her with that charge

Quote:

3. Why didn't you hold the Defense team responsible for bringing up the "Accidental drowning of Caylee" (cause of death) and then NEVER MENTIONING it again---and never offering any PROOF that it happened that way???

Because the burdon of proof isn't on the defense.

Quote:

this is the idiocy we have in society today....

No, this is the "instant results", "someone must pay NOW" society that we have today. The media had this girl tried, convicted and fried before arraignment and the prosection was pushed to move with a very weak case ... because with our society, if somebody dies, we have to have a killer NOW, and he/she must be found guilty, and they must go to the chair soon after. Everyone wants closure immediately. I see it all the time with other child death cases ... Scott Peterson, The Ramseys, the Westerfeld trial they had here in San Diego. The media finds someone who's a suspect and then suddenly EVERY circumstancial thing they do points to guilt. Oh, they dropped their car off at so-and-so, that's just what a murderer would do! They talked to police with a worried expression, guilty! They picked their nose when being asked about the murder, only a cold-blooded killer would do that!

I remember one case years ago (forget which one) when they were suspecting the father had killed the kid, and the media had already started piling on with the "he's obviously guilty" stuff ... until a few days later they were able to prove that he was somewhere else, and they immediatly piled on the next eventual suspect. The did the same thing with the guy suspected of beating the Giants fan a few months ago. First suspect, instant trial by media, and the guy was guilty before a warrant was issued. Turns out he has 17 witnesses and some phone records that say he was somewhere else.

Quote:

if Anthony had nothing to do with this, she would not have lied to police.

I'll get back to this in a sec.

Quote:

she told stories to the police and purposly mislead investigators for as long as she could to allow her kids body to decompose beyond the point of finding any evidence.

I REALLY doubt she would be this smart and calculating.

Quote:

the fact Anthony lied to police and covered this up means at the very least she is an "accessory or in part to blame" for the death of the child...that a fact...

She was found guilty of lying to police. And they didn't try her for "being an accessory for the death of a child". Maybe they could at some point.

Quote:

agree even though she is guilty of murder there was not enough evidence to convict her of murder however there was MORE THEN ENOUGH ample evidence to get her on Manslaughter...thats what im ticked about.

Which is what they probably should of gone for, but the media, public and prosecutor wanted BLOOD. So they went with the much weaker case of murder, trying to get her sent away from life ...

This is also the exact reason why I could believe a story of "accidental death and coverup". Say her child DID accidently drown. Would it not be possible for a mom to think she had manslaughter, child neglect, or other charges coming her way? Could it then be possible for her to panic and do really stupid things like duct tape her, and make it look like a murder, lie about it, realise what she did is dumb ... but since there's no going back cause she's dug her hole deeper, just lie some more?

It's impossible to understand the mindset of somebody in tramatic situations. Yet the media will lead you to believe they can. They will tell you exactly what a killer would do, or what every rational person would suddenly do if they came across a dead child. But you can't really understand what some people think under trying circumstances ... so I COULD see a plausible situation of a panicked mother doing really stupid stuff to avoid lesser charges.

Now, tie that in with a very flimsy first degree murder case based mostly on circumstantial evidence, and that's why you get a not guilty verdict.

Quote:

This is just another classic case of jury incompetence no different then the OJ Trial....

No, it's another case of DA incompetence.

All that said, she's definitely guilty of something.

The charges against here were:

Count 1. First Degree Murder.....it couldn't be proven she murdered the child let alone planned the deed.

Included in this was 2nd degree murder...again, it couldn't be proven she murdered the child. If she had the 2nd degree could be applied if it couldn't be shown she planned the deed but acted out of depraved mind.

Count 2. Aggravated Child abuse.....it couldn't be shown she had abused the child before death. A picture was painted she may have neglected the child, but that is a different thing.

Count 3. Aggravated Manslaughter....this hints on the negligence factor mentioned but it has to be culpable negligence .....the difference is like a toddler wandering out to the pool and drowning v a parent who takes the kid out to the pool then goes inside to take a 3 hour nap.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Sorry for the misattribution

What you call feigning ignorance, I call asking a question to find out where people are coming from. Sure I have an idea of what the responses will be, but I don't know what each person will specifically say, and I want to know that before I continue. Sorry if you find this method annoying.

God knows, and I am assuming you expect Him to punish her for what she has done (assuming she is guilty), yes? But what if Casey Anthony is convicted by the Holy Spirit, sincerely repents of her sin, and receives salvation. Then when she dies she is rewarded with eternal bliss in the presence of God. No punishment is exacted. Would you then think that justice has been cheated? Would you rejoice because one more soul has been saved, or would you be angered that a child murderer (allegedly) will never be punished?

Really wasn't trying to derail the thread and turn it into a Heaven/Hell debate..... What happens between her and God is between her and God... the little girl is already with God and considering the mother she had, is definitely better off....

To answer your specific question, if the lady turns her life over to Christ then God will forgive her and I will be happy for her, the better question is, if she is able to do that, will she ever be able to forgive herself without a full confession for whatever roll she played in this.

Assuming she did it (or played a big part in it) I would believe that earthly justice was cheated but earthly justice and eternal justice are two completely different things... our ways and God's ways are not the same... and I trust that in the end, His ways are more important and will prevail.

Look not reporting a child missing for over 30 days is negligence and just downright incompetence....

name me ONE PERSON anyone on this forum, anyone you or anyone else has met in their entire lives that have kids that would wait 30 days to report their 2 year old kid missing?

everyone mentioned would be calling the cops in minutes if not hours...

she purposely misled police and lied...

look i think her parents are involved, i think they helped cover it up because they didn't want their daughter to go to prison.

I said I did not think there was enough evidence to convict this woman of murder or to send her to gas chamber.

however there was MORE THEN ENOUGH Evidence to get her on manslaughter(involuntary perhaps), conspiracy to cover up a wrongful death, and child neglect for sure.

the jury FAILED in Florida...they let off a woman who was involved/responsible for the unlawful death of a child.

the fact is Casey Anthony was "responsible" for the well being of her two year old...she neglected that responsibility and didn't even care that she was missing...she didn't care because she knew she was dead.

it may infact have been an accident...however its still manslaughter and thats what the evidence pointed to and thats what she should have got.

the jury failed in their duty..not because they didn't get a conviction, they failed because they failed to uphold the responsibility of the parent to care for the well being of a little child....and the end result of that is the unlawful death of a child.

fact is Casey was the kids parent and legal guardian...she was responsible for that child...she neglected her duties like a moron and the kid somehow ended up dead.

that makes her responsible! its manslaughter plain and simple...

however...its over now...its absolute rubbish....hopefully the childs father sues her for "being responsible for his daughters death" just like OJ was sued and ensures this girl NEVER makes any kind of money off the event that transpired out of all this.

fact is this girl belongs in prison for Manslaughter(most likely involuntary) which is usually around 5 years....she treied to cover it up....regardless its manslaughter and the jury failed here...plain and simple....

this girl was involved in the wrongful death of a child plain and simple...the jury in this case was dead wrong...she may not have been guilty of murder, she may not have deserved the gas chamber, but she was sure guilty of manslaughter, and conspiracy to cover up an unlawful death...

just because your found "not guity" doesn't mean your innocent folks

this girl has her child's blood on her hands...you can count on that...

If anything, the DA failed.... it is my opinion, they went too fast because of public and political pressure and they went after charges that they couldn't prove for the same reason...

They probably could have received a conviction on lesser charges but they couldn't prove how the girl was killed, where he girl was killed, or even if the girl was killed... yet all of the charges they went after forced them to prove those things... The jury acted impartially and without emotion and based on the facts presented.. the jury did not fail.

J/C,

Will little Caylee finally get a proper burial now that the circus has ended?

We may never know the truth about what really happened to her, but even the so called savages (native Americans) gave their own a proper burial.
I guess this fact disturbs me more then not knowing the truth or weather it was indeed an accident that was covered up due to the fear of public sentiment or a blatant acted of murder, that could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

I have dated 'Ice Queens' in my past, but Casey is truly a special case here

All of her outward beauty is not enough to cover up the ugly that is inside.

I pray for Casey's soul, because it is truly lost in a very deep, dark place.

I pray that Caylee will be properly honored in death with a proper burial with all of the human dignity that she deserves

But it's not murder, child abuse, or aggravated manslaughter ... the things she was actually tried for.

Quote:

she purposely misled police and lied...

And she was convicted of 5 counts of that. Not sure how it wasn't more, based on the number of lies I've heard about this case.

Quote:

look i think her parents are involved, i think they helped cover it up because they didn't want their daughter to go to prison.

Have any proof of that? Cause it's sort of needed to get a conviction ... we can't go based on what the media wants us to think.

Quote:

however there was MORE THEN ENOUGH Evidence to get her on manslaughter(involuntary perhaps)

What evidence would that be? Like Peen said, you have to have some sort of evidence that the person directly contributed to the death, such as leaving the kid by the pool, and going in to take a nap. It's possible she did this, but there's no proof of it. It's also possible the kid slipped into the pool and drown while the parent had her eye off of her for 2 minutes. That's not manslaughter. Are we going to throw every parent in jail who's kids happen to die because they snuck away and got into a dangerous situation?

Quote:

conspiracy to cover up a wrongful death

Like we said before, she WAS convicted for the lying.

Quote:

and child neglect for sure.

I don't think child neglect was one of the charges.

Quote:

the jury FAILED in Florida...they let off a woman who was involved/responsible for the unlawful death of a child.

The jury's job isn't to invent charges on the fly and find her guilty or innocent. They have to take the charges they are given, take the facts that they are given, and determine if that's enough to convict for those charges.

Quote:

Well, you got really repeatitive here ... but your bloodlust for punishing her for SOMETHING, helps make me understand why a mom might freak out and try and cover up a true accidental death of a child.

Quote:

hopefully the childs father sues her for "being responsible for his daughters death" just like OJ was sued

As mentioned before, the child has no known father.

The jury didn't fail. They can't just make up counts not presented in the court, nor can they say since this charge and that charge can't be considered I'll just say guilty to some of the others.

Sorry man.....you are wrong. If she could have been convicted of any of the other charges I am sure the jury would have been happy to oblige.

I agree.....it's a a wicked person for not calling in a missing child and a wicked person who didn't really care about the kid, but that culpability doesn't mean she killed the child, and that's what the trial was all about.

It wasn't about her being stupid, or a scumbucket, or anything else.

Now, if you are saying she should have faced a different criteria then someone else in so far as the laws are concerned, or faced a different procedure of trial such as having to prove her innocence as you suggested in a earlier post, then just say so...at which point our discussion ends.

It ends for a while anyway....heading out for the afternoon.

Have a good day.

Two things to make this outcome "right:"

1.) The judge should order that Casey be forbidden to have children again. She needs to undergo tubal ligation or whatever it is called. She should also be forbidden to adopt children or have any child under her care.

2.) Nancy Grace needs to just go away . . . somewhere far away . . . and never ever put that crazy lady in front of a camera again.

So you are in favor of a legal system like China or Saudi Arabia....

She was found guilty of lying.. that's it. So based on that you want to have forced sterilization?

If I accidentally killed my child the last worry on my mind would be what someone else is gonna think. The self guilt would be so great I wouldn't care what the justice system did to me.

Right,... I don't think most folks would be thinking of ourselves. I don't think most of us would want to live with the fact, and the quilt and the only thought would be about our loss.

It's a scary thought to think that there are those who would think differently.
Some who do not put such a high value on life

Casey Anthony Subpoenaed In Civil Case

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Casey Anthony was subpoenaed Wednesday to appear in a video deposition in the civil suit filed against her.

The subpoena was issued in connection with the case filed by Zenaida Gonzalez. It asked that Anthony appear at 10 a.m. on July 19 at the law offices of Morgan and Morgan in Orlando.

Anthony's civil attorney is Charles Greene of Orlando.

The subpoena warned that Anthony could be held in contempt of court if she fails to appear.

I don't care what you think the trial proved.. she is a free woman found guilty of nothing but lying to officials... if we can sterilize a woman for that then we have sunk below the worst of the worst....

Just curious - there wasn't anything in the article that said this lady had been a nanny for Caylee..............was she ever?

Everything I have read (from the media, okay?) has said there was no such person as "Zanny".

Had this lady ever been a nanny? Was she investigated in this case? I only ask because I don't know. What's the background of this Zenida lady in regards to Caylee?

Zenaida Gonzalez claims she never met Casey but the place that Casey said she dropped off her daughter with a woman named Zenaida "Zanny" Gonzalez was some apartment complex that the real Zenaida had an application or looked at apartments there.

Not 100% sure but I believe the police questioned her because of that connection. Zenaida claims people blamed her for Caylee's disappearance and received daily/nightly death threats on her and her children.

She also claims she was fired from her job and no one will hire her.

I knew the trial was going on, that's about it. Was completely unaware of the details and was unmoved by the verdict.

Honestly during the proceedings I was aware that it was going on and that was about it. After the verdict, which seemed to shock so many people, I read up on some of what happened.. Had they found her guilty like most expected it probably would have gone away and many of us wouldn't know as much as we do now.

If she was converted tomorrow, then I think you would be right about that. But if it were to happen at the end of her life, there would be no punishment exacted.

I am asking this question out of genuine curiosity. I confess I do not understand Christians, even though they make up the vast majority of people I know. I am surprised by the condemnation that is being passed on this woman by people who are supposed to believe that no person, no sin, is beyond forgiveness. It seems that the revulsion people feel toward her is antithetical to Christian love. I am not accusing anyone specifically of feeling this way, but I suspect it is the general emotion based on the response to the verdict. Seems to me that a Christian should at the very least adopt a quietist position on this matter, in which case most people in this country, and on this message board, should not be saying anything at all.

DC, I understand where you are coming from in your response, but I have a hard time believing that most people can accept this. Imagine knowing for the rest of your life that Casey Anthony possibly got away with murdering her child and consoling yourself with the knowledge that even though she escaped punishment in this life, she will not escape it in the next life, only to have her sincerely convert on her deathbed and escape punishment in the next life as well. Are you telling me that people would just say, "Oh well, that is God's way" and not feel like justice has been cheated, not only in this life, but in the next life as well? I believe most people would not be okay with this, and it is this attitude that seems to be responsible for the un-Christian condemnation of this woman, even if the condemnation is only implied in statements like "she will get her's."

I confess I do not understand Christians, even though they make up the vast majority of people I know.

And you probably never will. I am one, have been one all my life... your statement reads like you hope to understand Christians in one way and I can tell you having been around them (and been one of them) for 40 years that there are as many different ideas within Christians as there are Christians... You could fully come to terms with my own personal feelings as a Christian and talk to another one and they would feel differently...

I am surprised by the condemnation that is being passed on this woman by people who are supposed to believe that no person, no sin, is beyond forgiveness. It seems that the revulsion people feel toward her is antithetical to Christian love.

Passing judgment within the Christian faith is a complex issue.. but the first thing that has to happen before one can be forgiven is that they must confess to the people they have wronged and ASK for forgiveness... she has done neither. Until she does, this more of a legal issue than it is a Christian issue. As a Christian I am under no obligation to forgive her until she confesses what she did and asks for it.. (and it is not my forgiveness that she needs to ask for because she hasn't really wronged ME, other than as a member of society I'm sickened by what she may have done).. right now all she is guilty of is being a horrible mother and person..

Seems to me that a Christian should at the very least adopt a quietist position on this matter, in which case most people in this country, and on this message board, should not be saying anything at all.

Yea, now that is something Christians are good at.

DC, I understand where you are coming from in your response, but I have a hard time believing that most people can accept this.

As I said, I can't speak for most people.

That is exactly how I would feel. One of the hardest things to come to grips with as a Christian is that life isn't fair and that trying to figure out why things happen the way they do is futile.. Any time somebody accepts Christ, no matter when and no matter what they did before that happened, it's a good thing.

What you are seeing is an emotional response and we are emotional people just like everybody else. The thought of how somebody could kill their own child for their own convenience or how they could party just days after the child went missing or how they could not show basically any remorse at all is inconceivable to most people, Christians included... most every church I know has a prison outreach that tries to witness to some pretty hardened criminals and it is always a good thing when one of then turns their life over to Jesus, just as it would be if Casey did it in her life (and meant it)... but right now the emotions are too raw, the memories too fresh, the images too real.. so while I don't doubt that a lot of people could NEVER forgive her, many would if she confessed and asked for it.. and you still have to take into account the difference between our justice and His justice... I would really like to see her pay for the crimes I believe she committed on earth regardless if she converted tomorrow... but the legal system didn't make that happen so it is what it is.. I just really hope that nobody enacts any vigilante justice...

I don't care what you think the trial proved.. she is a free woman found guilty of nothing but lying to officials... if we can sterilize a woman for that then we have sunk below the worst of the worst....

If we sterilized women for lying our race would cease to exist

As long as octo-mom doesn't lie, we should be good.

Speaking from a purely physical standpoint, Casey Anthony is an attractive woman. But, personally, I can't get past the killer that I believe her to be.

I'll have no fantasies about her.. that's for damn sure.

Wow. What would make you even think about this. let alone post it?

On a side note, I'm a single male with a healthy appreciation for females, but there is absolutley nothing redeeming about Casey. I've read comments on Yahoo and here about how "hot" she is and how she should make money with her body. Really? I can't believe any sane, rational person could even look at her and feel attraction to her. She seems like the biggest ice queen ever, not to mention a child killer...

From TMZ

One of the jurors in the Casey Anthony trial has decided to go public with his side of the story -- but TMZ has learned, he's not talkin' ... unless the price is right ... and 5-figure offers are already pouring in.

A publicist for the unidentified juror is sending a letter to media outlets, claiming, "Our client -- a married, college-educated, 33-year-old white male with two young children -- is willing to consider granting one or more media interviews so long as the opportunities are paid."

We're told the juror has already received multiple offers from big news operations, including at least one major network. Sources tell us ... the high offers are in the "mid 5-figures."

Paid interviews are a hazy moral territory for obvious reasons -- and the publicist, Rick French, admits, paying for sit-downs is "always a sticky subject and believe me, I understand the delicacy of this type of negotiation."

But French insists ... sticky or not, his client ain't budging -- "He will not entertain any offers that don't include compensation for a myriad of reasons."
