The very best beer possible is the post-mowing beerS on a hot day, imo.
Edited for honesty and accuracy sake.
I just don't understand why you have to wait till you're done mowing. I mean, why do they put beer holders on mowers if you aren't supposed to use them while actually mowing?

I guess I just like saving it (them) for when I'm done, sitting on the patio looking over the Casa Dave Estates. I call it (them) the master-of-all-he-surveys-beer(s).

I've seen "cup" (beer) holders for 4 wheelers. The gravity kind - buy one, attach it to your push mower, and mow all day!!

I'll take extreme cold versus extreme heat any day...
If it's cold... I can always add another layer...
If it's hot... Well... I can't take my skin off...
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

I can tolerate both equally well, and pretty much in the same attire. I'm just as apt to wear shorts and sandals in January as I am in July.
Given a choice between the two, I - by far - prefer the heat. There is always a pool or something you can cool off in, if you must. Ideally, I'd have this kind of heat daily and live on a coastline that offers me a little reef living ;-)

Interesting aside here (probably interesting to only me) About 9 years ago, my wife's younger cousin - big fitness freak - wanted to roller blade out to our friends house to swim. I said I'd go along. Long story short - I took a back pack. We had a 10 mile trek in front of us, and it was hot hot hot - my back pack was heavy when we left. Not so much when we got there. I think these heat things are - like all other news - over worked. Drink. I remember back in high school - the weather was hot then as well..........2 a day football practices in August. 7:30 am til 11:30 am, then 3:30 pm til 5:30 or 6. Went home after the first practice - ate, took a nap - and went back. And we didn't have air conditioning at home. Or in the school - and no indoor practice facility anyway. It was hot - we drank water. We all made it. It was hot for the old people also - but nobody ran to "cooling" stations. Sure, heat can be dangerous. But it gets overblown IMO. I used to weigh myself every morning, and every evening. 3 years ago - weighed in the morning. 195. Worked that day. Weighed myself that evening. I had lost 5 lbs. Not that bad - considering the heat. Until I counted up how much I had to drink throughout the course of the day. And I only peed three times. Between the water I drank, and the beer after work, I had ingested over 16 pounds of liquid. And still lost 5 lbs. Anyway - people just need to stay hydrated - and liquids of any sort help. Pay attention to what your body is telling you......if you stop sweating, you're in trouble. So stop what you're doing, get in a/c, or shade, and drink.

I just let my dog out. My black and brindle dog. I opened the door and immediately started dripping sweat. He walked out ...... and had a seat. Then he laid down on the hot sidewalk and rolled over. He was just soaking it up. Crazy mutt. I only let him out for about 4 minutes or so, and when I called him back in he looked at me like "Aw, do I really have to ....?"

ah good, you got there before March when it starts to hit 100
(seriously, the worst I ever got burnt living in PHX was during a spring training game when it hit only 102, but the sun just felt much harsher than that and ate through my sunblock)

Our black Rottie used to love to lay out in the hot summer sun. Didn't bother her at all.
She'd be out there panting...well like a dog...but had no interest in coming in. We'd call her in every 15 minutes or so and make sure she took a drink, then she'd head right back out.

I agree.
Though I will say the older I get, the more the heat makes my butt drag.
While it's been hot as heck since early June, unlike the last 10 years or so, we have actually gotten some decent amounts of rain, and not just the afternoon thunderstorm variety.
I think we are ahead on rainfall totals, and it's been a long time since that happened.
The grass is still green and I haven't had to up the sprinkler schedule.

+1
I feel like I enjoy more cold weather activitives than the warm ones. I really like snowboarding, tailgating, running and playing football/soccer in the cold.
I get down with swimming from time to time but it's not something I truly enjoy.
Plus, being a skinny, pale guy I always felt more confortable in long sleeves and jeans anyway. And you can't do that when it's 97 at all.

I can tolerate both heat and cold equally well I guess but I like warmer weather, which is why I moved south. Extreme hot or extreme cold is uncomfortable if you have to be outside for any period of time but I'd rather have the heat. I agree with the person that made the comment about shorts, I'll wear shorts and a sweatshirt when it's 40 degress if I'm just running errands or something that doesn't require me to be outside for a long time. But in general if you are talking about extremes, I'd rather wear shorts and flip flops around and be hot than have to put on jeans, shoes for the snow, a heavy jacket, etc just to go out and do some stuff. and Peen, we are getting the heat but not the rain.. we are bordering on drought conditions again...

I really need to cut my backyard. Seems it grew overnight and is VERY scraggly. I think I'll wait until it's in the shade...which will be just before sunset. Ugh...what I wouldn't give for a riding mower today.
I haven't cut grass in weeks......it turned burnt and brown long ago, like it was mid-August but it happened in June.
I'm okay with that.
Current temp at 6 p.m. is 96 with a heat index of 103.

Mine isn't long anywhere at all.....my grass that is.......I do have weeds cropping up in numerous places, which I never understood. Some of the weed type plants sprouting are better than a foot high. How is it they can grow that tall but the grass is stifled? I'm NOT dragging the lawnmower out and busting my ass chasing weeds in scattered fashion. It will snow at some point and kill those.....and it's not like I'm growing a vegetable garden in my front yard or anything.

That's what I was going to say - the weeds are nice and dark green - my grass? Not so much.
101 here right now - I don't know the heat index.

They say that corn adds a LOT of humidity to the air by bringing water from the ground and releasing the moisture through the tassels. I've been noticing 90% of the corn around here has tassels.

But I hardly think corn releases more moisture than, say, a woods.
I'm not blaming this heat wave on corn. I'm blaming it on..........it's the middle of July. And we have this every year. And in the middle of January it will be cold and blowing.

I was joking when I said we can blame the corn, but it does indeed make it more humid.

I suppose it could. Me, I blame it on the Gulf of Mexico. This high is just strong enough to pull that moisture up your way. Welcome to the world of 80-90% humidity. Extra Strength Gold Bond Powder is a wonderful product. This works as well.

If you're going to be working outside in this type of heat, drink at LEAST a quart of water at least 20 minutes before even setting foot outside, then regularly drink more by the pint.
LMAO you do know us old folks wouldn't get any work done if we did that. A quart of water followed up by regular pints leads to bathroom breaks every 10 to 15 min.

So then you have a built in timer. Go to the bathroom, drink water, go to the bathroom, drink more water.

You would be surprised. I played golf a couple weeks ago and it was in the 90s. I bet I had 6 bottles of water in a 4 hour period and a soda before and another at the turn and I never did go to the bathroom. And tell Tulsa I also shot 76.
