I would just like to say that this crazy free agency period is going to be near impossible to keep up with without the ability to post links to Twitter. There has already been numerous cuts on Twitter that I would like to post but can't.

Can we use this site as reference? It's way behind Twitter...but £¢'s not horrible.

It perhaps will be.... but currently, there is no practice squad. That doesn't get formed until after final cutdowns to 53. Until then, the regular roster is 80 players (or is it higher now with the new CBA?).

I just remember that players wanted 90 for TC and I think it was 1 of their requests being granted in the new CBA...not 100% sure though

yes, but the rules on this site have been that we can link to a newspaper article/blog but not twitter or non-MSM blog.

therefore, you just need to link to the newspaper article and the source is usually revealed within. those are the rules that have been setup (to stop complete chaos) and keeping to them isn't too bad (I actually like the news sites being my filter from the avalanche of craziness).

Yes, but if their source is twitter, then where is the difference?

On the issue of the PS. I knew that it can only be set after the final cuts are made, but is there any information as to what the size will be? I know that there was discussions on expanding it from 7 to 10 that's why I asked?

this was in the Q&A section awhile ago and I'll just comment once more to not derail the fun in this thread.

basically, the difference is that the news site has vetted the twitter account to belong to the individual. if you post twitter here, then the moderators would have to vet them to be accurate and that is too much of an overhead.

Pretty simple if you think in the terms of what twitter is and that anyone can have a twitter account and make crap up. So unless the mods want to rummage every twitter post to ensure it is coming from legitimate reporter and not some 12 year old at home with the flu, then they don't want twitter direct sources.

I understand perfectly well as to why we can't post a twitter on here, but I was unaware that it was okay to post a news article that's source was from Twitter. That's all.

Basically I chose not to post some articles for that very reason. Now that I know that it's proper to do so. I will do so in the future. Thanks

I'm hoping we go after Jacob Ford who, when healthy, is a pretty good pass rusher.

Whats the deal with Eric Wright? Wasn't he restricted FA? Showing on NFL.com that he's a FA...

He was restricted under the terms of the old CBA. Under the terms of the new CBA, unsigned players with 4 or more years service are UDFA.

He reverts to un-drafted free agent status even though he was drafted in the second round? Sucks to be him along with all the other new UDFAs.

alford-minn-tackle-osu-horiz.jpgView full sizeUniv. of Minnesota photoMinnesota offensive lineman Dominic Alford, from Shaker Heights, was signed as an undrafted free agent Tuesday by the Browns and can play either the guard or tackle positions.

BEREA, Ohio -- A Shaker Heights grad and the backup quarterback of the Cleveland Gladiators are among the 22 undrafted rookie free agents who agreed to terms with the Browns on Tuesday.

The club, which did not confirm any of the names of the free agents, is expecting most or all of them to report to Berea on Wednesday and sign their deals.

Quarterback Troy Weatherhead, who threw four touchdown passes for the Gladiators on Friday, started 12 games for Hillsdale last season, where he completed 279 of 363 passes for 3,215 yards and 26 TDs. He finished as the school's all-time leader in completions, attempts, yards and TD passes. He also set an NCAA record with a 76.9 completion percentage. Nfldraftscout.com ranked him 41st out of 85 quarterbacks in the draft.

The Shaker Heights grad is Minnesota offensive lineman Dominic Alford (6-3, 321), who can play both guard and tackle. The group also features some good-sized receiver prospects, including Chris Matthews of Kentucky, L.J. Castille of Delta State and Juan Nunez of Western Michigan.

Matthews (6-5, 219) was ranked as the draft's 45th-best receiver by Mel Kiper Jr. As a senior, he caught 61 passes for 925 yards and nine touchdowns. Kiper wrote in his draft preview book that "Mathews is one of the more physically imposing wide receivers in this draft. He can go up and get the football with the best of them ... outside of Julio Jones, he might be the best blocking wide receiver in this draft class."

Castille (6-3, 223) caught 67 passes for 900 yards and 13 TDs last season. Nunez (6-1, 183) caught 91 passes for 1,032 yards and 10 TDs in 12 games. The Browns also tried to sign Ohio State receiver Dane Sanzenbacher, but he opted for the Bears, instead.

The list of undrafted free agents includes UTEP running back Donald Buckram, Georgetown College defensive lineman Kyle Anderson, Missouri cornerback Carl Gettis, Notre Dame linebacker Brian Smith, TCU tight end Evan Frosch, Tennessee State linebacker Sidney Tarver, Oregon State cornerback James Dockery, Maryland linebacker Alex Wujciak, Appalachian State defensive lineman Jabari Fletcher, Delaware State defensive lineman Andre Carroll, kicker Jeff Wolfert of the UFL's Omaha Nighthawks and Tennessee guard Jarrod Shaw.

The cornerbacks, Dockery and Gettis, had good production last year, with Dockery making 56 tackles and four interceptions and Gettis 48 tackles and two interceptions. Carroll had 96 tackles, four sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries.

The Browns were expecting most of the undrafted rookies to report to Berea on Wednesday.

Young interest: The Browns are interested in signing Saints free agent cornerback Usama Young, a league source said. Young (6-0, 200) was originally taken by the Saints in the third round of the 2007 draft out of Kent State. He's been mostly a backup for the Saints, where he played all four of his seasons. The two sides negotiated Tuesday and could agree to terms Wednesday.

No camp news: The Browns have not yet released their training camp schedule because they're still working out the details according to the new rules. Players will report Friday and the first practice open to the public is Sunday, but the time has not yet been determined.

Johnson and Mikell gone: Two big names off the list in free agency are Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson and Eagles safety Quintin Mikell. Johnson will return to the Panthers for a six-year, $76 million deal, including $32 million guaranteed. Mikell agreed to a four-year deal with the Rams, where he'll be re-united with coach Steve Spagnuolo.

Working the phones: The Browns talked to the agents for their unrestricted free agents Tuesday and those from other teams, but no agreements were reached. Among others, they've had conversations regarding cornerback Eric Wright and defensive end Robaire Smith. The Browns have said all along that they didn't plan to do much in free agency.

This is interesting to me. I read this article a few hours ago, but I didn't notice this paragraph. I don't think Usama Young is number 2 material though. I'd like us to at least continue to try to pick up Eric Wright if we sign him.

Which makes me feel good seeing that we were at least trying to make a deal with him

Mary Kay tweeted about it earlier. I couldn't post it (rightfully so) until I found it in a news story. I want to see wright back as well.

So... riddle me this;

If we are not going to be that active in Free Agency, then how will we meet our minimum spend if we're so far below the cap? Is Joe Thomas going to cost that much? No...

We have money to spend and HAVE to spend it. We'll see some new talent rather by trade or FA.

I understand your point. I am just pointing out what has been said.

Thomas is going to be plenty expensive to lock down for 5-6 more years. Add in a few more guys we might seek to extend.....Hillis comes to mind as one I would look to add 4 years.

I don't think we will have a major problem getting close enough to the cap.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I sure hope so.

I'd like to see the Browns pick up Safety Eric Weddle and DE - Kiwuanuka. I wouldn't be surprised if we got Stewart Bradley also. Mix that with re-signing Eric Wright and signing Usama Young and i'd be very happy.

I'd also like to sign a RG/RT. I've heard reports about signing a WR, but I just don't see who we'd get that really would make the team that much better (save Santonio Holmes). I'm more interested in seeing what Robiskie, Mass, Little, and Carl Mitchell can do

Regarding free agent vet players, I'll be really surprised if we don't land a safety. Kind of surprised if we don't land a running back. Mildly surprised if no receiver.

Very good college LB.. problem is that he is a bit small to play on the inside at 247 and may not be fast enough to play on the outside.. he has great instincts and I hope he finds a spot with the team..
