You're still thinking in 3-4 slow-mow Mangini version...we're going to the "Ewok"-defense = small and fast....250 is max for a LB in that D

The only guy that we really need to re-sign is Eric Wright.

Regarding other players I'd like to see back, Robaire Smith.. As for Elam, not for nothing, but Haden wants Elam back. Haden and Ward want E Wright back as well.

Not necessarily. It's not like there's a flurry of REsignings being reported around the league.

Yeah, it's unusual to see a bunch of resignings. Especially in football. Most of the time you see disgraced CEO's and politicians resign, but not football players. (A hyphen makes a pretty big difference).

Trusnik by: Omar Kelly July 27th, 2011 | 6:00 AM There’s growing speculation that the Miami Dolphins have added the first free agent of 2011, and it’s linebacker Jason Trusnik, who has supposedly agreed to terms on a two-year deal he’ll sign Friday afternoon. Jason Trusnik should add linebacker depth, and provide special teams help. If this speculation is accurate (haven’t been able to verify it just yet…too early to make calls this morning) the Dolphins have added depth to the outside linebacker unit, which presently features just Cameron Wake, Koa Misi and Ike Alama-Francis on the training camp roster. Trusnik is also a solid special teams contributor, which is what the Dolphins really need from the team’s backup linebackers. It’s probably safe to assume that offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and new linebacker coach Bryan Cox played a role in endorsing Trusnik, a four-year veteran who played at Northern Ohio, where he was a Division III All-American and was twice named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference. Trusnik, who is listed as 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, was initially signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2007. He was an underdog who made it to the 53-man roster and played six games as a rookie that season. He played in 17 games with the Jets before New York traded him to the Browns in 2009 as part of the Braylon Edwards deal. He was one of two players the Browns targeted. He played 12 games for the injury-depleted Browns that season and started 10 of them, contributing 56 tackles (45 solo), 2.5 sacks and one pass deflection. Like Cox and Daboll it appears Trusnik was a favorite of Jets and Browns coach Eric Mangini, who has consulted with Dolphins coach Tony Sparano this offseason. Last season Trusnik recorded 24 tackles and one sack for the Browns, who used him as a starter for five games. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_foo...ntinel+Blogs%29

I would hope we can also resign Mitchell even if we bring in a FA DE and I would be surprised if we do not.
Safety is also a big concern. The DB from Oregon St. (Brain freeze) Might be moved to FS, but I don't think that Heckert will put all of his eggs in that basket.
If we sign a veteran WR, then I think the chance of Mitchell and the rest of the hopefuls will be hard pressed to make the squad other then the PS.

I like it.
I get that pash rushers tend to have big years on contract years, then disappear, but Edwards has gotten progressively better each year he's been in the league.
2006 - 15 games played, 2 games started, 3 sacks.
2007 - 12 games played, 11 games started, 5 sacks.
2008 - 15 games played, 15 games started, 5 sacks.
2009 - 16 games played, 16 games started, 8.5 sacks.
2010 - 15 games played, 15 games started, 8 sacks.

I just hope we're not paying a whole lot. 8.5 sacks is not that great.

Found this tidbit...
http://chronicle.northcoastnow.com/2011/07/27/browns-joe-haden-tj-ward-back-early/
Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards is another possibility, and went on SiriusXM NFL Radio with Adam Schein. The host tweeted: “ray edwards raving about the #browns. would be a nice fit.”
The salary cap is $120.4 million for 2011, and ESPN.com reported the Browns are $33.3 million under. They must spend most of that to fulfill new league rules.
“We’re in great shape,” Heckert said.

Edwards is the best available FA DE out there. He is also underrated against the run and can play on the strong side.

arguably. I prefer Cliff Avril. Edwards rarely was double-teamed in Minny. He would be here. He's also older than Avril.
now, if we get either at non-crazy money, then I am happy. just stating a preference.

He aint the only Viking being linked to the Browns Weddle is the interesting one to watch today I think. btw you were right Cowboys found a way to bring back Doug Free. Being able to prorate these contracts for 5 years really changes things up.

I don't agree. I think his name is the most recognizable. There are other cheaper options who are potentially better players than Edwards. Jacob Ford when healthy is just as good. Mathias Kiwanuka, also when healthy, is probably the best defensive linemen out there.

Not me Avril has been a liability against the run and is not much more then a pass rush specialist imo. We have Benard who can fill that role anyway.
Edwards is still only 26 and still has many good years ahead of him. Jmho.

Wow I didn't know that. I don't think he's worthy of being the highest paid safety ever.
Think we'll look at Atogwe?

Here is a complete list of the undrafted free agents. http://www.ohio.com/sports/browns/browns...medium=referralMissouri cornerback Carl Gettis; Notre Dame linebacker Brian Smith; Maryland linebacker Alex Wujciak; Tennessee State linebacker Sidney Tarver; Georgetown College defensive lineman Kyle Anderson; Western Michigan wide receiver Juan Nunez; Kentucky wide receiver Chris Matthews; UTEP running back Donald Buckram; Hillsdale quarterback Troy Weatherhead; Appalachian State defensive lineman Jabari Fletcher; Oregon State cornerback James Dockery; Minnesota offensive lineman Dominic Alford; Delaware State defensive lineman Andre Carroll; Tennessee offensive lineman Jarrod Shaw, Delta State wide receiver L.J. Castile; TCU tight end Evan Frosch and Omaha Nighthawks kicker Jeff Wolfert, who played at Missouri from 2006-08 but has been in the UFL since. *my own two cents - in the article, they list all the players in paragraph form. was someone asleep at the wheel? list them like i just did. its much easier to read. geez*

Yeah, you can tell Holmgren and Heckert were REALLY concentrating on bringing in WRs.
Western Michigan wide receiver Juan Nunez; Kentucky wide receiver Chris Matthews; Delta State wide receiver L.J. Castile;

Question is who are we going to spend it on? Don't we have to use almost all the cap space per the agreement?
