and Mike Stoops is out in AZ. no surprise after his lackluster last couple of seasons and then losing to a terrible oregon state team. still, a couple of seasons ago he had looked like he might turn AZ into a consistent mediocre team with an occasional good one. that would have been a feat there. too bad.

J/C...

Can the athletic dept. hire someone to literally tail and kick Fickell in the nuts if he plays Bauserman again? Or even just hand over the interim tag to a monkey throwing darts at numbers? I guess I'm baffled we haven't seen Guiiton yet. He looked a hell of a lot more promising than Bauser and with our line the way it is, we probably REQUIRE someone with that mobility.

Too bad. I always root for the local guys to succeed.

That being said, over the past couple years, for some reason, I've caught a few Arizona games on TV. And every time I watched them, I found myself asking "why the heck is this team on a national game?"

he will land on his feet somewhere. either as a DC to a top tier team or as a HC to a lower level team (the NM teams are in the same recruiting area and have been terrible lately for instance)

Fickle today said at his weekly press conference that nathan williams probably won't play the rest of the year and will most likely get another surgery. So is he eligible to be medical redshirted?

If so our defense will be really nice next year.

DEFENSE in 2012

DE/Leo - Nathan Williams
DT - Jonathan Hankins
NG - Garrett Goebel
DE - John Simon
OLB - Ryan Shazier
MLB - Storm Klein, Etienne Sabino
OLB - Curtis Grant
CB - Travis Howard, Dominic Clarke
CB - Brad Roby
S - Christian Bryant, Orhian Johnson
S - C.J. Barnett

It just depends. There are certain provisions he has to meet to get a medical redshirt. I think the main one is being completely done with your undergrad degree when applying.

If he was a Senior and not a RS Senior, the odds are likely he'll be granted an additional (5th) year of eligibility.

When you start talking 6th year though, the prospects are much tougher. In most cases, the NCAA (typically) needs a really good reason to grant a 6th year i.e. something above and beyond just a football related injury.

Case Keenum got his 6th year but his first redshirt was also for medical reasons:

Uh, no.

You can get a medical redshirt at any year of eligibility. It requires an injury that prevented the athlete from playing in more than 20% of the season to qualify. Typically that would be 3 games, so he would qualify regardless of year.

I'm just passing along what I know. Take it or leave it. If he's a 5th year senior, he's probably not going to get one.

NCAA athletes have 4 years of eligibility that must be used in a 5 year window.

If he redshirted as a freshman, he needs a unique circumstance for the NCAA to consider a medical redshirt, regardless of whether he's under the 20% plateau. Typically a "unique circumstance" is NOT a football related injury.

If memory serves me correctly Cinci lost Mauk when he was denied a 6th year of eligibility by the NCAA.

if you go to the Keenum link, then you will see that it supports what you say. if the first redshirt was for an injury, then yeah, they'll grant the 6th year (Keenum case). if the first redshirt was just a normal redshirt, then they will likely deny.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/...s-hike-exit-fee

as the Big East crumbles.

Army has said no thanks.
Navy is basically saying the same thing (but not officially yet)
Air Force may join Army/Navy in saying no.

Boise has re-upped with the MWC.

Say hello to Houston, SMU, and UCF. And possibly Temple if the Big East extends them as expected. Or, they could go Memphis to get a bridge to the Texas schools geographically.

When lower tier schools (sports-wise) are saying no, you know your conference is in deep trouble. And you know that UConn is plotting ways to blow it up as well (the ACC is holding open one of it's last 2 spots for Notre Dame, UConn would almost assuredly be the other unless BC's president really has as much power as he claims)

Did anyone see the play that just got overturned in the Baylor/Texas A&M game?

Replay is runing officials. They are TERRIBLE.

Ball literally rolled on the ground, then popped up, and they called it and Inteception.

The most obvious incomplete pass ever, and they had to go to the freaking replay to review it!

At least the replay official apparently wasn't from the Big East.

I wonder if I end up losing this Michigan State game, if they'll call it a win anyway since I was right for most of the game, but ended up being wrong. Cuz that's how it works, isn't it?

We've only tried to throw around 4 times. Unreal. I was joking with my dad we were going to be the first team to run a hurry up and run the ball every snap.

It's cool and all that with a 10 point lead and less than three minutes it looks like OSU will win this game, but completing 1 of 4 four passes on the game is embarrassing. I don't care if its windy or whatever. You have to have some semblance of a passing attack.

Andrew Luck has a 96% completion percentage on play-action passes.

This dude could be good as A-Rod in 3-4 years.

Could someone please explain the college football rule about helmet contact and the quarterback? I'm watching the Arizona State vs. Oregon game and a defender's hands touched the quarterback's helmet (simply touched, nothing bad) and a personal foul was called?

So is it treated like a facemask? You touch, flag? That's pretty silly, and worse than any of the NFL's QB-centric rules.

The announcers were talking about him in detail....said he was supposed to be the best defensive player in the country this year...but is actually just turning out to be an average player that gets a ton of personal fouls (2 tonight).

We need a LBer(s) with attitude but not one that gives up 15 yards once or twice a game due to a lack of poise.

Illinois really laid an egg today. Ohio State had nothing....but Illinois was worse. Too bad really, I wanted to see the Illini keep going up in the rankings.

I'm really not a huge fan.

I don't see superstar potential in him. I see an okay tackler with decent instincts.

my favorite play was when he did hand-off then proceeded to step in front of Herron and nearly knock him down (and did slow him up enough for the defense to tackle him)

all this is funny now though because we really did control the game. our offense needs to thank the defense a ton for that one.

i did find it funny that the first time Illinois was the obvious favorite in my lifetime (well, since I've followed OSU in the late 80s at least), they couldn't do a dang thing against the most 1-dimensional Buckeye team in that same timeframe.

Wisconsin goes up 14-0. MSU follows with a safety, INT, blocked kick & blocked punt for a TD on next 4 Wisconsin possessions & puts up 23 to take a 23-14 lead into the half.

Yeah I posted when it was 14-0. Thanks for the update on scoring though, or I would've wondered how in the hell MSU scored so many points with a mediocre yardage total. That explains it.

Wow, what a turn around.

I feel pretty good that my Penguins actually stayed somewhere close to being in the game against Michigan State. They look like they might be the class of the Big 10.

Nov. 5 - Abalbama/LSU in Tuscaloosa for the national championship. It's a shame the loser of this game will be replaced by Boise State in the bowl game.

Nah Boise's computer rankings will only go down as they continue through their conference schedule.

I don't buy Clemson (or any ACC team for that matter) 100% and Ok State still has Kansas St, Texas Tech on the road and a showdown with Oklahoma on Dec 3...so I don't see them getting through that unscathed.

With the LSU-Bama loser out of the running and Oklahoma and Wisky losing this weekend I think it's shaping up really well for an SEC champ vs. Stanford national championship.

Talk about an epic matchup. Luck vs. one of the two best defenses in the country. Both those teams have legit NFL caliber talent on their D....so if there are any Luck doubters left you'll get your questions answered in this game if it happens.
