I wonder if Heckert attempted to trade Robiskie before waiving him?

Possibly, but every team in the league knew that we had to free up a roster spot one way or another, so they might've been hesitant to give anything up for a guy who was likely to be cut anyway. That and the whole passed deadline thing.

You mean that thier crystal balls told them that Hardesty was going to go down

There wasn't a reason two weeks ago for any team to assume we needed to clear a spot..

Yeah, I'd forgotten the deadline had passed. My mistake. Hence the editing to add the second part.

So yeah, since the deadline passed its a moot point. If it hadn't, though, I doubt we'd have found any takers, for the reason I mentioned.

First round picks work out only half the time. Second round picks a little less often.
Just as long as they can get a core of players together on offense to work together, they will be able to improve.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Not a surprise, really.

I bet he goes to another team and becomes a solid contributor. It just wasn't going to happen here, with this QB.

And the stock market is down this week and a bunch of people are blaming it on Europe.. those goofs need to realize that it's down because of Colt McCoy.

So basically what you are saying is that our talent evaluators, from Holmgren to Heckert to Shurmur and a host of other people and assistant coaches are too dumb to see that this is all Colts fault, therefore they are going to keep a 6th round pick who has barely been able to get on the field but let this "polished" 3rd round pick walk?

I'm not sure what this is stemming from, is it OSU homerism or Colt hatred or some combination?

Oh and by the way, I'm sorry Colt McCoy hurt your back. I hope you feel better.

Too bad with Robo, I am actually a little surprised (in a good way) with the overall responses on this post. Seems like genuine disappointment the way things worked out. Of course there are always the few that feel they need to pump themselves up by taking joy in another browns failure that "they called". Whatever, i'll never understand that mentality.

And my resentment for Mangini grows even more, man- he just botched that draft....

I think Heckert has done a much better job at understanding talent- its still up to the coaches to polish those skills.

I wonder the same thing sometimes about the people that seem to think Colt can do no wrong...

Unless Ward and Luavao turn out to be better than they've shown, we didn't really get much out of the '10 draft(besides Joe, which is almost worth it), This year looks better though...

I didn't say anyone said that, I said at times, people act that everything Colt does wrong isn't his fault...

He has no running game!
He has no Oline!
The Playcalling sucks!

None of those have anything to do with him watching the WR the entire time run down the field sandwiched by two DBs, and still throwing it, even when he HAS time... We don't have Megatron, and he's not Stafford...

Hell the only play he made with his arm last week (TD to Cribbs) any other QB and thats a walk in TD. Cribbs was 5 yards beyond everyone, and had to come BACK for the ball because of the crap throw...

I thought he was ganna be THE GUY last year after the end of the Jet game. I dunno what happened since then. Because it's to the point I'd rather have Wallace in there almost.

I agree, but for the most part I think that they are mostly youngsters trying to validate their knowledge of the game, but fail badly when showing their age and or mentality by reverting to pet name calling.

Reality is one thing ... Wanting/hoping a Browns player to/will fail to strengthen their point is let's just say another and leave it at that.

Too many fail to see that we basically blew up this team, mainly on defense, but we needed to use our top two selections on defense in order to make the transition and in the process the offense took a back seat. We added Little and he was an upgrade, albeit potentially speaking.

We did go out and sign Brandon Jackson only to lose him for the year to injury.

Too many are down on RG Shawn Lauvao who is basically a rookie, because the lock out hurt last years class of rookies as much as it did this rookie class especially for those players who did not see much PT as rookies.

Pinkston is a rookie, but both are learning on the job and there is a learning curve playing in the trenches.

Too many of you expect instant success from a third and a 5th round selection and even the top prospects struggle in their first season as a starting OL, with very few exceptions.

Too many dwell on their mistakes and fail to notice the good plays they have made..... </rant>

I think that with closure on Robiskie, that maybe now the FO will consider a WR in the first round (if available) in the next Draft.

It's the same with the counter argument. Those who find fault with Colt's play are accused of completely ignoring problems with the OL and WR's and putting the blame solely on him.

Blackmon is a player I would have considered with the 6th selection last April.

However I can wait for next April

And still have Taylor, Little and possible whomever we get from Atlanta in the first round too.

Exaggerate much? Name me one poster on here that thinks that Colt can do no wrong....

As for me, I've been consistent that i'm not pleased with what I'm seeing out of this offense.. but I'm not willing to place all the blame on Colt McCoy. I happen to believe there is enough blame to go around and enough weak spots as well.

In your mind, does that make me someone that thinks that Colt can do no wrong?

I used specific words like sometimes and seems for a reason. I wasn't be exact with my words.

At no point have I ever said everything is McCoy's fault, but there are certain aspects of his game that I've seem that not only aren't PROgressing, they're REgressing...

And all the while, countless people ONLY want to look at everything else, and just give him "more time"

How much more time? He's getting the rest of the year, is that enough time? Should we not look at any other QB options until 4 years from now when we KNOW weather or not Colt is THE GUY?

(Yes, I occasionally like to use extremes to make a point)

I honestly don't feel the OL is playing that poorly. They are giving up 3 or 4 plays a game and thats not bad. It is not great either but the majority of pressured plays has been with the QB.

First sack was on Pashos solely last week, he was beaten badly. I have no problem with ripping him for plays like that.

I believe the next came on an excellent blitz pickup by the back(might have been Marecic cant remember for sure) but instead of getting rid of the ball, Colt steps right into the only place the blitzer can get him. The pattern is far to often, feel the pressure look down at the ground and dance around until he gets hit.

Those kind of plays are being put on the OL just like they were when Frye was making the OL look horrible. I took some heat for saying the line was playing pretty good then also.

The big problem I have with the OL is the penalties. Just to many.

We can use an upgrade at RT but I have no problem keeping the other 4 intact. Let Pashos be your 6th man.

On that play there were I think a combination of contributing factors.

Firstly the play that was called played into their teeth and secondly Marecic not picking up the blitzer quickly enough (IIRC) the blitzer was already in the backfield. There was simply no time to execute on that play.

Perhaps Colt could have stepped or spun away from that pressure, but the play was already thrown of it's timing and it would have taken a spectacular turn of events for that play to have ended positively.

Imo ... there where plenty of other truly bad plays to use as an example over this one as far as pointing fingers go.

Like his over throws. You can hardly spread the blame on those plays, but even with the fumbled plays there where other contributing factors....ie; the snap, the RB ect...

And no front office is perfect either. Further, McCoy has regressed from last year in many ways. The front office didn't know that was going to happen.

We'll see what happens with Robiske in Jacksonville. He goes from one struggling QB to another ..... but we'll have a chance to see how he does on his 2nd team.It will be interesting to see how he does, and how people will react if he plays well for them. I'll take my shots if he sucks in Jacksonville, but I don't think that he will. I think that he'll be an average level type wide receiver, capable of playing all positions, with good size and speed, but without that one spectacular aspect that makes people wet their pants.

We'll see what happens. We'll get to face him on November 20th. I hope we shut him out in that game. (along with the rest of his new team)

I was a firm believer that Robiskie had turned the corner this year. Even into the preseason, he seemed to be playing fairly well.

I dunno what happened with this guy....just goes to show the measureables sometimes don't measure up.

Thanks to all the dawgtalkers that DIDN'T take my bet that Robo would have a 50 catch season.....eeeesh

Mourgrym : Pathos plain out sucks no matter how you slice it .. I am not a big fan of the draft pick Marecic and not at all sold on Lauvao ! Pinkston has the advantage of playing next to Thomas and sure dosn't make me forget Stieny .. I get tired of waiting for next season and next season so they can " Mature " into a cohesive unit ..

Not really sold on Heckert as far as that goes... He just looks good because everyone before him really , really sucked .. This coming years draft will be HUGEIC for this franchise !

Bear in mind that we play a different blocking scheme than we did last year as well. Pashos looked very good last year, then this year has struggled. Lauvoa looked good in last year's preseason, then struggled when called upon in the regular season. Some of these guys just might not fit this scheme. Some might need time to develop. Some might just be bums. Pashos played very well last year, when he could play, so that tell me that he might just not be suited to this scheme.

*Edit to add* Also, last year we ran the ball a LOT. The OL could lean on the DL, and wear them down. OL love to run block, because they can be aggressive rather than more passive in pass blocking.

This year we do not run the ball as much, for a variety of reasons. I'm sure that plays a part though.

hahaha, it got better...

As for Robo...well, here's a little bit where we can see what ailed Robiskie, was it the offense, or himself. He now goes elsewhere with a rather easy acclimation to the system. Chances are he does okay. I bet he'll pull in 1-3 TDs and 200-300 yards at most...He's good at finding space but he does that best when the defense is stretched, something that wont happen much in Jax cuz they got no deep threats and are seeing much of the same that we are cuz their O stinks...we'll see.

As for their waiver claim...it doesnt necessarily mean that if theyre bad theyre at the top of the waiver. Its based on previous claims, if they hadnt put in a claim in a long time then theyll be near the top, but if they claimed someone last week, then their near the back of it, and if im not mistaken they just claimed Sims-Walker a couple weeks ago. chances are they were at the back of the waiver order.

as for Colt...man this is tired. The kid needs more time and hes improved. Give it time please.

From what I skimmed over on the JVille Board, is that they have the deep guys, and are missing the underneath guy...

When a player is waived by a losing team and goes on waivers to another losing team it means that the 2nd team put in a rather high claim on him ..... that's what it means. Jacksonville was somewhere around 7-10 in waiver wire claim order.

I am curious as to whether any other teams put in a claim on him as well.

Are we sure he was picked up on waivers by the Jags? He could have cleared waivers and been picked up as a free agent. I looked around but cannot find a report stating one way or the other.

interesting...

I guess i just assumed that was the case cuz their passing game usually strikes at around 170 yards per game

He was definitely claimed from waivers by the Jaguars. He didn't have time to clear waivers before they grabbed him.

Awarded Robiskie off waivers, Sims-Walker on IR

Jaguars awarded WR Brian Robiskie off waivers, Sims-Walker placed on IR

The Jacksonville Jaguars today were awarded wide receiver Brian Robiskie off waivers from the Cleveland Browns.  Wide receiver Mike Sims-Walker was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

Robiskie, 6-3, 209, played in 31 games with 14 starts for the Browns after being selected in the second round of the 2009 draft, the 36th player chosen overall.  He has 39 career receptions for 441 yards and three touchdowns.  He appeared in six games in 2011 with two starts and made three catches for 25 yards.  He was waived by the Browns on Tuesday.

Robiskie posted career-high numbers in 2010 with 29 receptions for 310 yards and three touchdowns while starting 11 of 14 games.  He had a touchdown reception in three straight games to conclude the season.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Robiskie started 32 of 51 games at Ohio State and finished his career with 127 receptions for 1,866 yards.  He registered 24 career receiving touchdowns and became only the fourth player in school history to make 20 or more touchdown catches.  He was a two-time Academic All-America selection and as a senior was a finalist for the Draddy Trophy, given to college football’s top scholar-athlete.  In his final season at Ohio State he scored eight touchdowns while recording 42 receptions for 535 yards.

Robiskie attended Chagrin Falls High School in Ohio and finished his career with 118 receptions for 34 touchdowns.  His father, Terry, played five seasons in the National Football League before joining the NFL coaching ranks. He is currently the wide receivers coach for the Atlanta Falcons.

Well by Brian Robiskie, I always pulled for you while you were here and i hope you catch on somewhere.

its a shame you were never really used here...they hardly threw the ball your way at all for starters, and you really belonged in the slot where you could use your skills.

he was not a starting WR/a guy you line up on the outside, he is a guy that belongs in the slot...thats where OSU used him most and he was a good player...if Jack is smart enough to put him in the slot he will be a suprise for them.

As for Gregg Little...i don't see all the hype...he is slow...and he started dropping passes already, however he is a later rd pick and i have no problem giving Little 3 or 4 years to develop into something. afterall, Little was a raw prospect coming out of college anyways.

Good luck robiskie!

Little better lace up those cleets..its your job now...run away with it boy!

That is not at all a belief I share.

Have you seen Gabbert's numbers?

Let me put it this way......He's one of the only guys in the league that has played worse than McCoy. As we've all seen, that's really saying something.

So basically, as tough as it is to go from bad here to worse somewhere else, Robo just did it.

Just gotta wait for the truth of all this to come out.....

***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy.

Poor Gabbert...they're ruining him....a 21yo rook from a shotgun system. Everybody said and knew he has to SIT 1 full season at least and those idiots trot him out day 1 with the only WR corps worse than ours (Robo signing just proves it), their #1 WR is a slot guy, Thomas...and their #2 Hill, couldn't get playing time before 49ers drafted Crabtree and had no WR, he was a bust in SF

He looks completely lost and should have never seen the field so quickly

That was one of the worst places he could have gone. The coach needs to win...so they draft a QB that needs to sit at least one year in the 1st round. So if Garrard struggles at all you know they are pulling the plug and putting in Gabbert so del Rio can save his job. Then they cut Garrard and decide to go with LUKE MCCOWN!

So now Gabbert is guaranteed to start and they have no receivers. And he has a lame duck coach whose only argument for why they suck so bad is the ole, "We had to play a rookie QB, there is no way we can tell if we're actually good" argument.

Thanks (to both OSGuy and YTBF). Not sure what kind of ramifications a team has for claiming a player on waivers but dang no wonder the Jags stink if they place that much value on Robiskie.

The will pick up the remainder of his contract.

Robiske is a guy who has been a bit of a mystery to me. I really thought that he would do more than he has in the NFL. I think that his overly quiet personality hurts him a bit, as quiet might come across as uncaring at WR.

I still think that he has a future in the NFL. He didn't work out here, but none of our receivers have really worked out in the past 3 or 4 years. (except part of last year when Delhomme showed McCoy how to throw down the field)

I think that we would be talking about our receivers a lot differently if we had a veteran QB right now. However, that's not the case. Now Robiske goes to another team with a struggling QB. However, I don't think that the Jaguars have a guy who works the short to middle zones, and Robiske could find a niche there.

I expect that he'll get another look even if he doesn't stick with the Jaguars. He has dealt with such a mess at QB for pretty much his entire career, and I think that NFL teams see that. He might never see a huge deal, but I suspect that someone will sign him, if the Jaguars don't wind up bringing him back next year.
