Man, what goes through your head when you say that to someone? You need to grow up.
With the lewis signing...I don't really care for it, the man made his career by trash talking the browns, and then setting records against them. It just brings up bad memories.

I don't appreciate that.
I'm sorry that I don't change my opinion of others. Wasn't it just the other day that we all were talking such ill will of Jamal Lewis. But now, since he's signed with the team you all are going "All is forgiven". Give me a break.

That about sums it up for me as well Toad! I'd almost prefer to wait to draft a RB next year, but we realistically might need to draft a QB (Colt Brennan-Hawaii?) next year, and I don't think we'll be able to get to both. It is shaping up to be a VERY interesting off-season.

NO to Colt Brennan!!!! A 195 pound, system QB will get killed in the NFL.

First of all.. What Hot said was messed up. What exactly were you thinking saying that?
Second of all, I've hated Jamal Lewis forever, because he was a Raven. Just like I hate Carson Palmer, Hines Ward, Ray Lewis, ect... but, if any of them want to come to the Browns, I will be more than happy, and support them, just as I am going to do with Jamal Lewis.

i'm sorry for stepping in here.. of course people make mistakes, i made a mistake by not separating my laundry the other day (ruined a couple of white shirts), but negotiating a major coke deal isn't mistake.. any somewhat reasonable human over the age of ten (give or take) knows that in this country buying or dealing drugs against the law. i don't buy for one minute that he didn't know what he was doing was illegal.. that being said, people can change and do deserve 2nd, or in his case 3rd chances, but please don't say that this was a mistake. this was a willful act and he just happened to get caught.

I really don't understand ur post. People don't make mistakes but they deserve chances? I think people do bone head things sometimes which are mistakes and they deserve chances because they can learn from them. Is that what ur saying.
Jamal Lewis got in trouble for something he did awhileee ago, when he was in college/entering the NFL. People change, there's plenty of people in college who are in that scene; do i think at the age of 27-28 they're all going to all be wrapped up in that as well. Nope. People make mistakes, it's life

Well at least we know he can play in the snow...lol. Really though, I feel like this is a very good signing. I would love to see us pick up Joe Thomas and maybe even someone like Blaylock in the 2nd. Lewis still has some left in the tank. I have a feeling that their will be quite a few people sticking a foot in their mouth by the end of the season.

Really, none of the players we've signed have tipped our hand. Frye is apparently being shopped (subtely), Stein is a guard and we're looking at other guards, we've signed a RB who's probably on the downside but if healthy is a better runner than Droughns......Hell, it's tough to say what we'll do. I do believe that we can stand pat at RB, QB, WR, and OT resulting in the #3 pick in the draft going on the auction block. I really want Joe Thomas, but if we got a helluva deal for the pick, I wouldn't flip out. We still need more quality starters than singular stars, and this #3 pick can turn into 2 starters immediately.
Is it the swan song for my boy Droughns? It just might be, but I'd rather we just kept them both and drafted Thomas
Droughns is toast. With his $1.75m bonus and $1.25m base salary, Droughns was set to earn at least $3m this year. Lewis' contract will pay either $2.5m or $3.5m if he meets his incentives. This move is, in essence, a lateral move in terms of contracts but an upgrade in talent.
However, with Droughns gone (as he will be, since we're not going to keep two slowing down runners for the same money), we're still left with a need for a running back. Lewis is only on a one-year deal - he's a rental, not a long term solution. We're not going to be in the market for a complimentary back to a guy with a one-year deal - we're going to be looking for a future feature back. That's Peterson.
There's still a slight chance that we keep Droughns and split carries, but, as soon as Droughns' bonus is declined, you can start ordering your Peterson jerseys. Having Lewis for one year is a great way to get Peterson acclimated to the league without forcing him to eat all the carries right off the bat.
We're... we're good?

You could also say that the Lewis signing gets us through this year so we don't need to draft a RB. Next years draft will have some depth at the RB position and Savage may be looking forward to that.

Heard this at work about 11pm.
I don't know what to think anymore......I was looking forward to Adrian Peterson playing for us, but now that may be fading away. Lewis is wearing down as a back, probably due to his bruising running style. I just hope he has a better season for us than he has the past 3 seasons.

Not from where I'm sitting. Look at it this way - you're talking about drafting depth at the RB position next year, not a NFL-ready back. If Savage were looking towards drafting a back next year, why wouldn't he have signed Lewis for two years to help ease their transition? After all, Peterson is the most NFL ready back to come out in a while, and even he would benefit from sharing carries as a rookie (which he would under our current setup). If Savage were truly looking towards next year's running back class with this signing, it doesn't show. Both Wright and Lewis' contracts expire next year, leaving us, in effect, with next year's rookie if he were to go that route. That doesn't make sense.
Peterson is the much more logical conclusion IMO. One year of time learning the ropes and splitting carries, then he gets to handle a full workload.

the point of my post was that people obviously make mistakes.. but in this case it wasn't a mistake.. he knew what he was doing(not a mistake).. i posted a link showing that there was an indictment in 2003 against him for setting up a cocaine deal between a federal agent and associate of his that wanted to but the coke.. what i am saying is that people can and do change, and they do deserve another chance.. i'm the first guy in line to give someone another chance (i hope he dominates this year) whether or not he has changed i obviously don't know, only time will tell.. maybe i'm just arguing semantics here, but you can't convince me that this was some innocent mistake,,

Dude the indictment came in 2003 but do you know when the incident actually happened?? Let me help you...it was when he was in COLLEGE...
This wasn't an innocent mistake...I never said it was..but not all mistakes are innocent...I mean everyone on here as done things that are wrong and they know all along they were..but still did them..
Hopefully you learned from them. It seems that's what has happened to Jamal Lewis..I mean 6-8 years without another incident since his college years seems pretty good to me for a so-called "career criminal"

Personally, I kinda think Savage is rolling the dice and figuring he drafts next year for the RB since next years draft has a lot of potential..
So.. it comes down to the LT and the QB or taking the best offer someone gives us.. I doubt we leave the 3 spot.

Running all over Butch's teams.
I'm sorry is that his fault? Am I missing something or are NFL runningbacks supposed not to run all over teams anymore??
By the way do you know him personally? Can you give me a link where and what he said bad about the Browns??...if he said something like their defense is so bad I could run for 500 yards against...guess what it was TRUE..
If you don't know the guy how do you know what he stands for??
You're reasoning is a joke

never called him a career criminal but this wasn't his "first time" like i've seen posted... http://www.wbaltv.com/sports/2874390/detail.htmlThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Lewis, who graduated from high school in Atlanta, played for the University of Tennessee before foregoing his senior year to play for the Ravens. But before arriving on the Knoxville campus, the newspaper reported, Lewis, who was then 18, was received a 3-year probation sentence and paid a fine of $1,000 for a shoplifting charge. The indictment accuses Lewis of arranging a meeting in June of 2003 between a woman who claimed to have a large amount of cocaine to sell and an associate of Lewis who allegedly wanted to buy the drugs, Miller reported. and i'm pretty sure he was drafted in 2000..

Have you read anything that I posted??? Top to bottom...Left to right...take Tylenol for headaches...
First off that says that the shoplifting was around when he was in High school...So therefore it took place BEFORE the cocaine incident.....
2nd off I said could you find ANYTHING AFTER the cocaine thing??

So Savage (after probably cutting Droughns) will leave us with only Jerome Harrison on the roster going into next year (because Wright and Lewis are both 1 year deals)? I can't imagine he'd be that crazy. If he's positioning himself for a RB next year, I sure can't tell.

You also have to consider us drafting a DL like Branch. I think at this point in time, if we are NOT going to take Peterson that we have a chance to make out pretty darn good by swapping with someone like Houston who sounds like they really want him. We can still pick up a guy like Quinn, Branch, Levi Brown as well as extra picks if that happens. So if we aren't taking Peterson, move back. Good things can happen.

there's no need to debate... When Lewis starts to get those 1st downs, and starts moving those chains, and starts scoring TD's... all of this talk will stop.. He's a Brown now.. U cannot do anything to change that.. just like i couldn't get the Browns to keep Antonio Bryant.. just like i couldn't get the Browns to keep the great William Green.. Live with it.. and enjoy the wins!

There's a difference between not showing your hand and creating a horrible scenario for yourself. Waiting until next year for another RB after signing Lewis and cutting Droughns would be the equivalent of all our QB contracts expiring and saying "well, I'm sure there will be a rookie there for us" next year. Hoping that things will be OK in the future is absolutely a recipe for disaster. For Savage to bring in Lewis on a one-year deal with the intention to have no solid RBs going into next year makes 0 sense. Draft and free agent classes one year in advance are completely unpredictable. There's no way Savage is going to rely on that for RB.
If we cut Droughns and don't bring in a 2nd back before the draft, we're getting Peterson. It's the only scenario that makes sense.
We're... we're good?

I could see Droughns having trade value, but not wright, atleast not yet. Maybe Wright and harrison will battle it out for 3rd string.

I don't think we are going to cut Droughns...I really dont see it. I think Savage would be happy going into the season with Droughns, Lewis, and Harrison as our RB's... Now T. Smith on the other may end up being cut if Vickers can focus on blocking instead of FB passes

We're pretty sure the Bronco's could use another fan.........i can see the contradiction already....as soon as J.Lewis scores his 1st td.....you'll be the 1st one screaming "TOUCHDOWN".......how silly is that!!!! Btw, what's in your closet?

J/C Welcome to Cleveland Mr. Lewis.
"Let him without sin cast the first stone" Jesus of Nazareth
No stones cast from me. I like the signing. If his heels are healed, maybe there is plenty in the tank. If his tank is empty, Randy blew some of his dough. It is apparent with the weak FA class this year, that our cap isn't an issue. On the flip side, if he can still cut it, Jerome Bettis style, than sign him long term. He could be our Jerome Bettis, or he could be our Curtis Dickey. IMO. I
