mac...I'm also sure that I'm not the only season-ticket holding fan who feels the way I do. Do you think that season ticket holders are going to keep renewing their tickets if our front office and coaching staff continue bumbling their way through 4-12 and 5-11 seasons, mac?

adam...it's your choice whether you continue as a season ticket holder or not.

Fans are free to walk away from the Browns at any time, if they want. IMO, it does not help to set some arbitrary standards or goals that the team must meet, OR ELSE.

Realistically, we are just beginning to see signs that Holmgren's method of building the franchise via the draft, is working. No, it is not showing up in the W-L column yet, but their is progress.

The one constant that seems to be the toughest for most fans to accept, is the pace of the rebuild process. It "will" take longer than most fans figured and the results may not show up in the W-L column for another year.

I'm totally prepared for another 4 or 5 win season should it happen...are you?

It is said that Browns fans are the toughest football fans in the NFL, because of all the hardship we have endured over the years and decades.

Just how tough or how loyal Browns fans are, is about to be tested in 2012..we will find out.

I have been a Browns fan since birth...I'm not about to change now.

Is it possible,, even remotely, that you are all wrong about McCoy?

My expectations for the season progress as the off-season and that next season happen...

If we pick up a Matt Flynn or draft an RG3, that will effect what I think will happen...

Then the schedule comes out and based on who and when we're playing I make a generalized guess of what we COULD end up being...

But sometimes that changes mid season...

in 2010 I figured we could start 2-0 because the Bucs and Chiefs sucked, then we lost those games and I was expecting another crappy season, then we blew out NO and NE and we're ABOUT to beat the Jets, and I looked at the rest of our schedule based on the way we were playing and thought we could sneak into the playoffs...

And just for the record, I don't care how long we've been rebuilding, I will never "accept" a double digit loss season...

Seriously, how great would a 7-9 season in Cleveland be? Is that too much to ask?

Wow, nice backhanded compliment Pat "I think he can be fine....he just has to learn everything a QB has to be decent at" lol...

I read it and I think he means that with just a little improvement he will probably be in the pro bowl next year unless the Browns are in the super bowl.

Seriously - based on your inability to even watch the 8 or so second play when colt got hurt and make a single statement of fact about it - I can say that what you see means nothing.

Your inability to state anything accurately about that play is telling. You may be a guru - but it's in your own mind.

I used to read your posts and respect them. Even if I disagreed. I don't anymore, for what it's worth.

Hope McColt is listening, because there are obvious layers of messages being aired in here. He has support, but he needs to be better than he was. He has deficiencies himself. The coach and FO must agree that the personnel had a part in limiting his performance, and Chilly speaks to the gameplans & results were well south of the bar. But he will put out, put up, or blow his chance. Hope we have some deep receivers, at least one FA to throw to and provide a legitimate deep threat. TDs and extended drives will cure a bunch of woes. McCoy is NOT getting a blanket endorsement or a pass on his need to produce. Szounds fair if he is armed with help and dangerous. But it seems some weak areas have been targeted. Bring on the competition; I do not care who wins us ballgames.

Well, you can all go semantics on me...fact remains, Shurmur obviously sees the same I see....a QB that is well above AVG in those pretty important areas, otherwise he would not even have mentioned it...I already said that a HC has to be PC about stuff like that...but the mere fact that he mentions it, is indicative enough

I mean, think about it...if Colt was fine and our sure future he wouldn't say things like that...the FO and Shurmur would just say "He's our man", like they did last offseason btw, remember?....they don't anymore..RED FLAG alarm, so they obviously have paddled back on Colt (no wonder after that horrible season)...instead, he says how "natural" it is that he has to compete with whoever they bring in...that has never been disputed, it's pretty much a given that Colt will face some sort of heavy competition for next season.....be it a high draft pick or FA signing

but he will battle, lol

All signs are there, you guys can opt to believe whatever you want...I'm just the messenger, I'm not the one who sucks playing QB, so channel your hatred appropiately...that's what I mean by QB perfomance discussions being so emotional....it's fact by stats, multiple objective rankings and even more by eye test that he's a well below AVG starting QB in this league....and I don't want that for the Browns...do you? I'm a Browns fans 1st, then I care about Colt...some of you guys should check your priorities regarding this

Speaking as a fellow season ticket holder.. thats exactly right. I don't have those expectations the first two seasons. At the end of the third season I have a different set of expectations. That expectation is at minimum .500 ball.

As an edit.. I am preparing to pay the Clevaland Browns $554.00 in the next week or so. Thats what I am being invoiced for my season tickets. I am sorta glad that it's not more but thats only because the product stinks.

The Lerner family only raises the prices when we have a winning season. It's been a little while since they have raised the prices.

And that really, really sucks.

I put the $1404 on my Visa a few days ago.

You have every reason to expect a team that can win a few road games and a bunch of home games.

You know my friend, maybe it is guys like you and I that keep the product crappy. We send in our money year after year and don't get any results on the field.

We get a fancy renewal package that looks great, a Christmas card every year, a letter or two along the way thanking us for our support, and some sort of "gift", like a hat or replica stadium seat, but we don't get wins.

The problem is I am not giving the seats up. I like being a Cleveland Browns season ticket holder. I take pride in that, even if most I know think I am nuts.

I hope to be someday if that's any consolation...

But maybe I shouldn't, I mean I don't enjoy 4-5 win seasons, and apparently you have to be ok with them to be a good fan...

I didn't get the Christmas card this year. It's the first time I didn't get one. I'm writing Holmgren a letter this weekend. I will tell him my expectations as a season ticket holder. At the end of my letter I'm going to tell him I didn't get a Christmas card. Phht..

I expect perfomance. I expect value for my money. I expect them to re-define what it means to have Cleveland Browns football. I expect to beat puttsburp. This year I expect a minimum of 8 - 8. Next year, the playoffs.

I've thought this exact same thing each of the last three years. I'd like to think that it isn't the case. But sometimes I wonder.

But that being said I'll be making my payment tomorrow or Saturday.

I just hope it's me that gets to see them in the Super Bowl and not the urn with my ashes in it.....

Guess Claiborne will be a Brown then...

Doubt ful..if we don't trade up for a QB or TRade down....if we stay at #4 Trent Richardson is Brown if we keep Hillis or not...

Richardson is probably the BEST overall player in this entire draft...the dude is a HOF RB....i don't care about any RB taken out of the draft in the last 15 years...Richardson is better then all of them.

Heckert would a moron to pass on him.....just imagine a backfield with Hillis and Richardson together...wow....now that is a two-headed monster not seen in Cleveland since the Mack/Byner days...Since the Kelly days...would be insane....

Richardson is a complete back...he has speed to run outside...has size to run inside, the dude has vision, he is quick, he is explosive, he can catch out the backfield, he is a GREAT blocker on 3rd downs....we won't have to change backs and telegraph our plays as much if at all....

We know Heckert was looking for a WCO back when he took Hardesty....of course that didn';t pan out and it don't look like its going to....Richardson will be the best player this team has had since Kelly, Byner, or even Jim Brown...

to pass on Richardson at # 4 would be foolish.....downright moronic...now if we trade down or upo for a QB thats different...but if we stay pat...we take Riachardson...

I don't know why...but my gut tells me Heckert goes Richardson at #4....Heckert is very big on BPA..and Ricardson will be the highest graded player on the board by some margin come pick for...if RG3 is not on the board at #4 and we don't trade...Riachrdson will be a brown....JMO

So say we do re-sign Hillis. You want to draft a player with the 4th overall pick that will play, what 15 snaps a game?

Talk about moronic.

Wanna bet???

Put your Fantasy Football checklist away...

There r 4 positions in the NFL that r the toughest to solidify...And this isn't even debateable...

1) QB
2) LT
3) DE
4) CORNERBACK

IF RGIII is gone when we r on the clock...I bout guarantee u we go Claiborne...Long before Richardson...And we SHOULD go with the Corner...This Defense is getting close to being Top Tier...Lotsa youth on that side o' the ball...

Do u agree this has become a Pass Heavy League???

There is ONE player who might be available in Free Agency that I would blow my entire wad on...

Mario Williams...Ink em' for the rest of his career (5-6 Years...Give him 10M a year)...We will be SOLID while still in his prime...

Add Claiborne at 4 and we have the makings of a DOMINANT Pass Defense...A pass defense that will allow Ward to creep up to the LOS simply because our 2 outside Corners DO NOT NEED over the top help...

First you claim that QB threads become emotional, then you state that if somebody watches the games and reaches a different conclusion than you that they aren't a Browns fan first and/or don't have their priorities in order.. Gee, I wonder how QB threads become emotional....

Message board....opinions...semantics...classic

Look, as I said, you can opt ot believe whatever you want, I obviously deliver an interpretation and pretty valid deduction (strange you didn't try to dispute that?) of what Shurmur said and why...and yes, this will be shocking news to you: it is my opinion...

and I'd love to read the "different conclusions" on McCoy after we've come to agree that he sucked last season....that's why I called the QB discusion "emotional"...Pashos sucked, everybody wants him replaced, Massa sucked, everybody, wants him upgraded....our QB sucks and still half the board wants to see more....everybody can have an opinion, sure...that's why I said you can opt to believe whatever you want but I'm right here to dispute this irrationality and inconsistency of those opinions...I simply don't know any other player/position where the fanbase puts the player above the bottom line team production...happened with Couch, Frye and Quinn too....so this isn't a new pattern

This discussion reminds me more and more about the Mangini debates me and a few others had against most of the board...all those semantics thrown along the way, not willing to believe what was staring right at them, instead attacking the posters ("that's not what he said" "where does he explicitly say that" !!) ...where have all the Mangini lovers gone anyway? oh, I know who you are, lol...they tend to be the same every year and they shut it every time when they were proven wrong...it's a process that tends to repeat itself I guess

The problem with some of your interpretations is you form them from an obviously over-biased perspective. Just as you did in your breakdown of the play colt got hurt on.

You're a Browns fan. Dreams are not allowed in the Factory of Sadness. It says so right there on the Mission Statement.

Claiborn. Griffin. Richardson. Coples. Kalil. Blackmon....I can make a compelling case for each and every guy there, which really just means no matter what direction we go, we ARE going to get an elite athlete, and for that, I'm just flat excited.

And I have my opinions.. problem is that based on your opinions, I've never said you were any less of a Browns fan who needed to rethink his priorities..

Quote:

I obviously deliver an interpretation and pretty valid deduction (strange you didn't try to dispute that?)

I did dispute it.. you said he needs to "learn" to do these things.. Shurmur said he needs to "refine" these things... show me a 2nd year QB in this league that doesn't still need to refine almost every aspect of his game.

Quote:

Pashos sucked, everybody wants him replaced,

Pashos is a 9th year guy who has never been all that good.. most guys don't turn it on in their 10th year.

Quote:

Massa sucked, everybody, wants him upgraded....

Massa is not a #1.. Everybody wants a true #1... let Massa and Little fight it out for #2, #3, #4... I don't think Massa sucked by the way.

Quote:

our QB sucks and still half the board wants to see more....

I am openly on board with bringing in a new QB as long as it represents the future of the position and not another band-aid.. my comment has been since mid last season when draft talk started... go big or don't go. Go for Luck, go for Griffin... but don't take Noles in the 2nd and create a stupid competition.... On the other hand, I will not be disappointed if we upgrade a number of positions and give Colt another year...

Quote:

I simply don't know any other player/position where the fanbase puts the player above the bottom line team production...

Well it's the one position that gets all of the credit when things go well and the blame when things go bad.. some people look at the supporting players, the new coach, the play calling etc and have decided that not all of the blame belongs on Colt...

I never said he did a good job.

What I, and others said, though, was he DID look downfield, when you said he only looked right (which he didn't do at all). There were so many examples of things you "broke down on tape" that were so wrong. I'm sure the posts are still there, you can check them out again if you'd like.

Well it's the one position that gets all of the credit when things go well and the blame when things go bad.. some people look at the supporting players, the new coach, the play calling etc and have decided that not all of the blame belongs on Colt...

See...problem with that "logic" is that everyone deserves another shot then...hey, let's not sign any FA and trade away our draft picks for upcoming drafts picks and let's give every rookie, 2nd year guy etc another shot...life wasn't fair to them too after all, right?

And "learn" vs. "refine" is the semantics I'm talking about...you expect Shurmur to throw his #1 QB at the moment under the bus? Even if he hates him he wouldn't since it would make him look bad inside Berea and around the NFL and it would lessen Colt's trade value...

You can opt to hang on to the exact words and pray but the writing is on the wall

I agree on your "go big or go home" stance though...no more wasting time on middle ground guys ...that's why I'm not big on Flynn, even though in that DET game he had more NFL throws than I have seen from Colt in 21 starts, esp. in the RZ...and no, I'm not exagerating...but he's still a former 7th round guy with 2 NFL starts...I'd rather have him than another mid rounder or do nothing at all at QB as I consider this an even bigger waste of time....with Flynn there's at least the hope of uncertainty and system fit etc...keeping Colt without bringing in any FA or high draft pick is pretty much my worst case scenario...or no, keeping him and bringing in an Osweiler, Foles, Lindley, Cousins is even worse long term

This is the year and draft to go get a QB high...I just don't get how anyone who isn't deep into Colt's you know where could see it any other way...I know they're quick to say "I'm ok to upgrade the QB position"...well, then do it and don't wait till "next year" cause it won't get any better than this, sitting at 4 with another 1st and 13 draft picks overall...

here's how.

I believe Indy is drafting Luck and will not entertain trade offers for him.

I worry that Washington will panic and offer the sky, the moon, and the stars to trade up for RGIII. If they come in offering #6, #39, 2013 1st rounder + a bunch of middle round picks, then I do NOT want the Browns to top that offer by offering more. RGIII has alot of risks and there is no reason to give up that much for him.

I am not sold on Tannehill at all.

There is no 4th quarterback that even merits discussion as a top of the draft pick.

If you believe the chart, then #4, #22, and #37 tops that offer.

Also, if we're bidding, it means someone else got Flynn... so there's that.

and I think that is too much.

and yes, I hope that Washington gets Flynn. It pretty much tilts the RGIII market completely in our favor and might completely scare the rest of the teams out of it. if Miami gets Peyton on top of that, then I would feel pretty secure sitting pat at #4.

but, DJ's assertion was he couldn't understand how someone could feel that we might not trade up for RGIII, so I gave him my scenario.

You mentioned the chart.

Wrong. Completely, totally and utterly wrong. Please stop over generalizing. If we can get rid of Pashos and upgrade via an average to slightly above average RT at a reasonable cost, then we should do it. If we can pick up an upgrade at corner, even if its not a "shutdown" corner, then we should do it. If we can pick up a Kam Wimbley or a decent DE that can be an upgrade then we should do it and if we can get a solid vet WR, even if his ceiling is as a real good #2, then we should do it.... why? Because you play 3 or 4 CBs and DEs and WRs in every game.. Depth is very important at those spots so even if you have a CB that shows promise, you go get another one... but you only play one QB.. (hopefully )... which is why I have the "go big or go home" mentality.. you don't need to worry about who your #2 and a #3 QB are (at least until you know you have your #1)...

And some people (like you) look at our stagnant offense or last year, with its poor running game, our WRs dropping passes, our questionable play calling and our poor QB play.. and they relate EVERYTHING back to the QB.. others do not.

I don't think I'm spelling this out very well but every position should be looked at for potential upgrades until such time as you have a guy like JT.. then you look for depth. Right now we have precious few positions on the field that are sort of "off limits" for high draft pick or big FA selections... you believe that QB is the #1 priority.. I get that.. others believe it is not the #1 priority.. and some of us sort of sit in the middle. As I said, I'm open to upgrading the QB spot but I don't just want to upgrade it a little.... so if you really believe RGIII is the guy, go get him... but don't take anybody else with a first or second round pick or a high priced FA just to say you brought in competition.
