Ytown we didn't get Weeden late in the draft. We got him in the second half of the first round. The pats got Brady late in the draft.

Just clicking...
I think that our OL is in the middle of the road compared to all the other NFL teams.
At the QB position we are at the bottom of the barrel. Just based on this, and the fact that teams are going to be targeting QB's between picks 22-37 it was a better response to go with Weeden.
One more lineman doesn't have the same potential return for our offensive efficiency as Weeden does. Just IMO.

I consider #22 to being very close to a "super high pick" especially when it's for a 29-year old rookie...
At least he hasn't had a lot of wear on his body.
ummmmmm???? he got drafted as a pitcher. his arm has gotten a lot of wear

I actually meant somewhere between 4-8 as early.
I think that the 'Phins wasted a pick on Tannehill, and I am so, so very happy that we did not do that even earlier.

This is why the Steelers wins SBs and the Browns are indeed the Clowns of the NFL. There is a good chance as Toad alluded to that he doesn't beat out McCoy......which means we used out 22 pick to replace Wallace...lol. Good news is our OL is so . poor on the right side that both will play so all is not lost I guess

That's not really the wear he's talking about, he's talking about the hits and such from linemen.

I think you guys are harping way too much on the age thing. The fact that he is older also means he is more mature. If it were any other position I think it would be much more of a factor.

More mature as in "I'm not gonna get drunk and sleep in a ditch" or "I'm not gonna zip into Mr. BillyBob Cooter's garage and steal beer out of his 'Fridge" but in football terms, he's no more mature than Griffin or Tannehill.
Weeden is an NFL newbie and has possibly less years in the NFL than the rookie RB we just drafted...

maturity has nothing to do with age. Blackmon bailed him out a lot and he played against terrible D's

Ok, well, now that we've drafted a statue as our future starting QB, we have no choice BUT to draft an offensive linemen at #37 to protect him, right?
(please?!)

There are still some good WR's out there, if we get Sanu,Jeffery, Hill or Randle at 37 I will be O.K. with Weeden at 22. I would like to see us trade back into rnd two and get a RT tackle.

There are 6 teams between us and our next pick.
Guys out there are :
TE Fleener OT Cordy Glenn OT Jonathan Marin WR Steven Hill WR Sanu WR Randle WR Jeffrey
We are guaranteed to get one of these guys if we want to.
Plus, I sincerely hope that we grab my sleeper WR, Marvin McNutt, in the 4th or 5th round.

We draft a good RB, we have the arguably one of the best OL (Decastro) in the draft fall to us, and we pass?
And our arch nemesis gets him?
I would have been shocked if Wheeden wasn't there at #37.

Yep, they grabbed Martin. Kinda figured they would when they missed on Richardson.

I am almost hoping now that Fleener falls to us at 37.

I'll bet you a six pack they take a WR at 37, and then waste another pick on Adams (and trade up to get him nonetheless). Meet the new boss same as the old boss.

Those two are not bad either.. at 37, Heckert should go that way or he is REALLY gambling on what will be left in the third round... he should take OL next.

For me it is just not taking Weeden at #22. It is the fact that we gave up 3 picks to move up one spot for Richardson-we were going to get one of the top 4 available in Clariborne, Kalil, Trent or Blackmon. We could have moved down 2 and still got one of the 4. But we didn't and still filled a big need in Richardson.
But Weeden at #22. We also could have traded down or waited till 37. He is 28 so he can't be a project. He has to be ready to go now. And Decastro falling to us and we pass. NFL network just said one of the 2 steals of the first round was the Squealers picking Decastro.
This draft was the one that we were setting up for when we passed on Julio Jones. We had 13 picks. This was a must draft. And we are falling in love and reaching. If we really wanted Weeden, we could have called the pats and moved back to 27 or 31 and picked up another pick.

We had to trade up if we wanted Richardson. The front office decided that he was the guy they wanted at that pick, so they traded a couple of low picks to get him. I don't have a problem with that. They then decided that they had to upgrade the QB spot, and that weeden was the guy they wanted. They also decided that he would be gone by the time their next pick rolled around, while other players they might target at 22 would likely still be available at 37. It appears that they are right. There will be a couple of OL, several WR, and a great TE all available going into the 2nd round. We should get another great pick with our 37th pick. Weeden and Richardson will be the starters at RB and QB to open the season. They will work together and learn together. Richardson is a very young and talented RB. He's only 20, and should have 8-10 years in him. Weeden is older, obviously, but is mature, and has a great arm. I am so tired of hearing how guys with weak ass arms are somehow perfect fits for the WCO. Give me a guy who can put the fear of God into a defense from anywhere on the field .... and then combine that with a heavy duty running threat, and it adds up to a far more potent offense than we had last year. I bet that our receivers are excited about the prospect of being able to go deep next year. I know that I am looking forward to scoring more than 13 points per game.

If you're going to try and spit-shine this turd, you hang your hat on the fact he can stretch defenses and reach every zone on the passing grid on a rope.
If you're going to try and ask what his problem spots are, you talk about...well...more than how strong his arm is...much more...
