If one of these kids develops then the trade is total folly. They are both young and have plenty of time to progress. And yes those numbers are in the NL but all in Colorado.
But even if neither of these guys does anything, they were our 2 biggest bargaining chips for trades. And we wasted both of them on Jimenez.

Sizemore has been shut down for the year, and Tomlin is having Tommy John surgery.

Not sure how many of you have seen the Chris Perez video floating around. I'd post it but it's definitely not safe for here.
Perez handled himself poorly and is a horrible role model for the few kids who actually watch this team.

you have to take into consideration this was a slimeball a's fan. I really could careless what he says to some opposing team's fans. that stuff goes on all the time. Perez is a loose cannon for sure, but he is one of a few that has done his job all year.

According to the comments, that fan is an ahole (no pun intended) who's been harassing Perez for years. Even the A's fans say this guys a douche who had it coming.

Any fan who plays the "keep walking away, bro" card while yelling at a player, as if to imply that the player is afraid of the fan, is a total knob who deserves any and all verbal abuse that he receives. There is nothing lamer when it comes to heckling in sports (which is already pretty lame to begin with).

there goes the feel-good comeback story for Bartolo Colon Quote:
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/829293...ing-drug-policy
Oakland Athletics right-hander Bartolo Colon has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for testosterone, the commissioner's office announced Wednesday.
The suspension, due to violating the league's substance-abuse policy, is effective immediately.
Colon, 39, is 10-9 with a 3.41 ERA this season for the Athletics.

Are they sure he didn't just accidentally eat Melky Cabrera. Oakland is awfully close to San Fran.

I don't get why he's talking so much trash when he's a freaking A's fan. Yankee fan or Cardinal fan? Sure, they do it right, but you're talking about the A's who supply players to the big market clubs just like us.
And I totally agree about the tough guy attitude. It's hilarious how tough these idiots act from the stands. You wanna be a man? Do it outside where the player might not have any barrier.
I'm not a huge Perez fan, and he should have never gone over, but this guy is a total D-bag who probably has it coming. I bet he plays softball. Softball is breeding grounds for fake tough guys.

That stuff doesn't matter, the guy thinks he's having a little fun at the players expense.
Yes I was that guy back in my 20's when I had a little too much of the sauce. Thing is I was never able to draw a reaction and I would get tired of yelling and eventually shut up. And no I didn't and don't play softball.
You can bet Perez will be a target league wide for heckling now.

Doesn't really fit in this thread perfectly but I didn't deem it worthy of its own thread.
In case you weren't watching:
The Indians are now in 4th place in the Central
14.5 games out of 1st. 1.5 games behind the Royals.
Only 3.5 games ahead of the Twins 1-8 on the most recent road trip. Last place we are coming for you.

and opening a 3 game set with the 2nd place in the AL Yankees (0.5GB of Rangers)
the fall of the Indians since beating Verlander and winning that late July series against the Tigers is amazing.
that was still less than a month ago.

I'm guessing that Antonetti is giddy over what sort of promotion this is going to earn him. Shapiro didn't do this badly and he got to be team president.

Great deal for the Red Sox. It was really just all about shedding the money. They have a ton of flexibility now to do a bunch of different things in the offseason. Crawford couldn't live up to expectations, Beckett was a locker room cancer apparently, and Gonzalez is a great player but is 30 years old and one year into a 6 yr deal worth a ton of money.
Decent move by LA. The big names are really gonna have people overrating the actual quality of this deal for them. They are taking on a LOT of money. Crawford won't return til next year, and the jury is still out on him. He could play like his Rays-self, but that was years ago and isn't that likely. Beckett could be good in the postseason, he has a shot. Gonzalez is coming back to the NL where he will thrive and will be a great player for them, but still expensive.
Victorino-Hanley-Kemp-Gonzalez is a scary 1-4. Crawford will probably be in Victorino's place next year, but might not be much of an upgrade. Definitely not as good defensively as Shane. Dodgers definitely can win a WS this year and possibly next year. They're going to experience what my Phillies currently are experiencing in a few years, though. Guess the FO just wants to get that title. Understandable.

Boston sheds 262 million dollars that they'll begin to spend again in about 3-4 months... Los Angeles comes back into the fray as a big spender... a cap is put on the draft so teams like Pittsburgh can't pour money into it... well played, Selig. (thumb down, fart noise)

Who is pitching? Kershaw and who? Beckett has been awful (but should be better in the NL). Capuano? Billingsley? Harang?

Quite a fleecing done by the Dodgers, it looked like a golden opportunity for the Reds to get to the big show with essentially just the Braves and Nats to worry about in the playoffs. Now the Dodgers enter the picture...

I'm not buying it. Their lineup is clearly MUCH better than it was with the recent additions - but I think that pitching is garbage outside of Kershaw.
Maybe I'm just biased - Beckett is a prominent member of my hell list behind only Braun and Fielder.

i agree that the pitching concerns will come to light in the postseason, but I think the Dodgers should get a seat at the postseason table now (upgrading from Loney to A-Gone is huge).

Angels make $150mil/year on their local TV deal. So, their current payroll (including guys like Pujols, Greinke, Wilson, Weaver, etc.) is paid for before they have a single person walk through the turnstile or purchase merchandise.
Dodgers are rumored to exceed that amount by quite a bit. They currently have a $193mil payroll for 2013 and there is talk that it will be covered by their local TV deal ($4bil/20year deal rumored - ESPN is saying that $5bil/20yr deal that the Lakers got may be in play as well).
The Indians, btw, make $30mil/year from STO.
So, the Angels/Dodgers both have a fully paid payroll before opening day. Indians payroll is less than 1/2 paid. This despite the huge discrepencies between the payrolls.
MLB is on the path to dying in 1/2 the cities it currently plays in unless something dramatic changes soon.

The luxury tax in 2014 was supposed to stop the crazy spending. The Yankees have said multiple times that they are going to be under the $189M threshold to avoid paying the giant new luxury tax.
The Dodgers are pretty giving the new system the finger and are doing whatever they want. Which they are allowed to do.
As long as the Rays are competing while drawing 9,000 fans a night I don't see how anyone can complain.

we'll see what happens when the Rays talent well dries up (if it does) after they were among the worst teams for the first 10yrs of their existance (and banked top pick after top pick). i am interested to see if their fabled talent development was more them developing talent or just getting to draft the uber-talented.
also, the Yankees said that before the new market realities. i also don't know how much the Steinbrenners are willing to renegotiate to those new realities between Yes! and the team.
a new deal should net the Yanks ahead of the Dodgers deal. If the new luxury line is 25% of payroll, then even a $200mil payroll will be covered by the local TV deal for the LAD. That leaves merchandise, concessions, and attendance to keep reaping in more $$$ (or to put towards even more payroll and still make profit as opposed to the smaller markets).
it was ridiculous and now is getting to the point of unsustainable IMO.

So bad. SO BAD.
Gotta play .500 ball to hit 70 wins. I don't think it happens. 65 might be stretching it. 100 losses is a real possibility.

I'm pretty sure the MLB became irrelevant by being the only professional sports league in America not agreeing to a salary cap. Yes, I've heard the fairy tales of other small market teams. Just because Tampa and other teams can do it doesn't mean everyone can. Although, you can't excuse poor drafting either.
I await the day for a NFL/NHL style salary cap in this league.

As we can see in other leagues, yes. Poor management still fails to prove a salary cap is not needed.

Oh I'm not saying that I think a salary cap would be a bad thing. It just won't solve the Indians' woes. Not as long as the current FO is in place, at least.

The cap has helped the Browns so much. And the Clippers. And the Bills. And the Bobcats. And the Lions. And the Timberwolves.
Just because the team is bad doesn't mean you get to blame the system. The Indians have traded their best players and have gotten close to nothing in return. That is the reason they are struggling, not because there is no salary cap.
Now is when you say, "If there was a salary cap we would have been able to keep our players?"
And I say, like LeBron James, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Paul. Or like Julius Peppers.
If a team is run poorly they will be bad. If a team is run poorly and they don't spend they will be very bad.
The A's have the 2nd lowest payroll in the league. They have 71 wins and are in the Wild Card right now. Pittsburgh is two games out of the Wild Card. Arizona is still in the race. Before Toronto got besieged by injuries they were pretty good. All of those team spend less than the Indians, but they are well run.

The Indians are just trying to get the #1 pick in the draft, LOL, realistically they can get the #2 pick, but unlike basketball, football, and even hockey do you even know any of the top 5 prospects?
This season has went to crap!!! If they don't fix the 1B, 3B, and LF holes for next season with RH power bats, I don't think I will watch a single game!

I'm not arguing the Indians would improve because of a cap. Antonetti would probably sign people out of retirement like Wade Bogs, Nolan Ryan, and Randy Johnson to 10 year 20 million salaries if he had that kind of money. Alright, the previous sentence was definitely facetious but you get the point.
Small and mid-markets shouldn't have to operate on a system of building a few guys, flip them for more prospects when they get expensive, and try to maintain continuity with turnover rate higher than a fast food restaurant. I follow the mantra of "Cheer for the team and not the player" but not many do the same. I think the constant turnover may be part of the reason the Athletics and Rays see such horrible attendance.
Incompetence fails to justify why the MLB lacks a hard salary cap.

...but, but Minnesota showed Cleveland how to take care of their own stars and keep winning. Oh wait.
They're trying to dump Mauer and they've already tried trading Morneau. It's killing that team to carry those contracts.

the funny thing about that is we had already showed them how it could be a bad idea to carry such contracts (Sizemore and Hafner) and they just went ahead and did it anyway (sort of had to because of the new ballpark).
but, the main reason the Twins have fallen off is that their seemingly never-ending supply of cheap, young pitching actually ended.
