Can't wait til Saturday just to hear SOMETHING related to the actual game of football. Camp time, I'll be salivating over everything. Which is funny cuz it's all the same when September actually arrives

The whole hang up with TRich's contract was stupid. If we CUT him and he gets picked up by another team we didn't want to pay the rest of his money? If he has any gas in the tank at all, the Browns would not cut him. If the Browns cut him, nobody would want him.

Now Weeden will be missing time because of a 4th year guarantee? Give the guy his fourth year. He is old and if he is going to lay it on the line for this team, he needs the money guaranteed. The Browns know they will cave in but are trying to make it look good for the NFL who screwed up by not having this done in the last CBA. Give the old man his money and let him get to work. He can't afford to even miss rookie days.

Browns get deal done with Trent Richardson
Posted by Mike Florio on July 23, 2012, 9:45 PM EDT
Trent Richardson AP

As expected, the Browns have worked out a contract with the third overall pick in the draft.

Running back Trent Richardson has agreed to terms, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

The contract pays Richardson a signing bonus of $13.341 million, along with base salaries of $390,000 in 2012, $1.321 million in 2013, $2.252 million in 2014, and $3.184 million in 2015.

Like all first-round picks, the team holds an option for the fifth-year. The Browns will be able to retain Richardson’s rights for 2016 by offering the average of the ten highest paid running backs in 2015.

The contract is fully-guaranteed, with no offset language.

The Browns moved up from the fourth pick to No. 3 to get Richardson, whom they hope will have an instant impact on the team’s running game — in turn opening up the passing game.

To get the most out of the running game and the passing game, the Browns need to get their other first-round pick signed. Quarterback Brandon Weeden, the 22nd pick in the draft, reportedly wants his four-year deal to be fully guaranteed. It’s a fairly smart move, given that there could be a new regime in Cleveland by 2015 — and Weeden could be getting the same treatment that 2010 third-rounder Colt McCoy is about to get.

I had no real reason to feel this way when I went to bed last night, but I just knew that when I woke up and checked the board, Richardsons deal would be done...

Weedens will be done today.. My prediction.

Browns “on verge” of finalizing Weeden deal

The Cleveland Browns wrapped up No. 3 overall pick Trent Richardson’s rookie deal late Monday, and Tuesday looks like it’ll bring a contract for fellow first-rounder Brandon Weeden.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Browns are “on the verge” of finalizing Weeden’s rookie contract. The sides reportedly spoke into the night on Monday and hope to put on finishing touches today.

Weeden has been hoping for a fully-guaranteed four-year contract. The Browns preferred to guarantee the first three seasons of the deal. In all likelihood, they’ll meet in the middle.

Weeden was the 22nd overall pick in April’s draft. web page

I bet that they wind up with a fully guaranteed deal with an offset provision.

That or the last year guaranteed if he hits certain performance marks (e.g. play x% of offensive snaps, make the playoffs, or just be the starter for x number of games).

Umm if it is fully guaranteed, there can be no offset provision. I bet it is 3 years guaranteed with the 4th tied to roster bonus.

Want to see this done just like everybody else. But I especially favor these performance scores. Do something extra to get extra for earnings bonus seems realistic, and fans would like it. Prefer it over a roster bonus you collect for breathing until that point in time. Feel good about TR, but I really feel that it is much more important for Weeden to be on the field. Will this include a 5th year option?

Sounds about right. Browns should be able to get some bust protection at this spot (particularly for a QB -- big-time bust potential). Weeden will probably get a little more upfront in a signing bonus if he gives in on a guaranteed 4th year. I'd be OK with that if I were the Browns.

I don't believe that's true.

I believe that they could fully guarantee 3 years and offset year 3, or something like that.

I know I can't believe our FO is so cheap and our coaching staff so incompetent that we weren't able to get everyone signed and ready to go by the day before things actually get started for the rookies. [/purple]

Brandon Weeden’s deal is done
Posted by Josh Alper on July 24, 2012, 2:38 PM EDT

The day started with news that the Browns were on the verge of a deal with quarterback Brandon Weeden.

The news proved to be correct. According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the 22nd pick of the 2012 Draft signed a four-year deal worth about $8.1 million. Cabot reports that Weeden received a partial guarantee in the fourth year of the deal.

That means Weeden will be able to join the rest of the Browns rookies in reporting to camp and starting work on Wednesday. He’ll be joined by running back Trent Richardson, who signed his own contract on Monday.

Now that Weeden’s signed, the waiting game shifts to the field. How long will it take for the Browns to go ahead and name the 28-year-old their starting quarterback?

The Browns don’t seem to have their heart in putting up much of a front about a competition for the job with Colt McCoy. They’ve talked openly about seeing Weeden, Richardson and wide receiver Josh Gordon, selected in the second round of the Supplemental Draft, playing leading roles in the offense for years to come, something that might as well start as soon as possible. web page

pray we avoid an early injury in camp where we never get to see one of our recently added players actually play for the Browns?

I believe a guy named Jake Taylor had a really good line after that setup. I agree with him.

I suppose we could have a purse fight over whether to cut McCoy or Wallace, if'n it would make you feel better.

They were ear-bleedingly awesome in concert

Getting back on topic.... It's great to see that we've got them all signed and we can hit the ground ready to go to work tomorrow!

Only a few more days and we can start getting some eye-witness level feedback from folks on here on how these kids look. I pray that they shut up all of the Negative Nancy pessimists such as myself

I wouldn't say that we've risked a lot with our 2012 Draft as we simply just made picks that filled holes, but if our main five offensive picks pan out, this will be a Draft of Epic Awesomeness... I mean, to get your RB, QB, RT, and two WR from a single draft - that's just ridiculous. It'd trump the living hell out of that whole Aikman/Irvin/Emmit thing.

Great news!

Man, we're going to have a rookie QB, RB, RT, and RT ...... and maybe a 2nd year LG, WR, and possibly TE. That's one young offense.

Kinda funny that you brought it up but I was really thinking about the Cowboys drafts that got them the big powerful OL, mature QB/natural leader, RB with great balance and never took a loss of yards, hands tight ends, Big athletic receivers with some off the field stuff in their history. I see a very similar philosophy.
