I shouldn't have assumed that everyone should have heard this about the Baptist church.
HATED Anniston, LOVED LaGrange. Only reason we left is because my dad got canned. I would say there's practically nothing I dislike about the south had I only ever lived there.

A funny joke about Baptists. What's the difference between a Catholic and a Baptist?? The Catholic will say hello to you when you cross paths in the liquor store.

Kind of like the Mennonite joke:
If you take 1 Mennonite fishing, he'll drink all your beer. If you take 2 Mennonites fishing with you, neither one of them will drink.
(I grew up Mennonite - age 0 to age 26)

The Northern Baptists Shout " There Ain't No Hell!"
The Southern Baptists Shout " The Hell There Ain't!"
Question on the original topic? Are the actual chickens themselves accused of being homophobic? Do they taste different because of the corporate owner's beliefs? Is there any evidence, or even accusation, of any actual, real discriminatory act?

And when did he say anything Homophobic?
He gave his beliefs on marriage, that doesn't mean he hates gays.

I think they should be commended. Cathy(the founder) is a religious man and decided he wasn't going to have employees of his working on Sundays.
I'll bet the people who work at Chick aren't upset about that. I know I always wanted Saturday and Sunday at any job I had since I was 15, but if it could only be one....Sunday is the day. That's family day to me. You do something with your gang and have a nice 4PM dinner. Baskin Robbins ice cream at 7PM.

It wasn't all that long ago that MOST businesses were closed on Sundays. Must be, those Baptists converted to other religions and opening up on Sundays.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

Chick-fil-A bracing for Round 2 11:03 am August 2, 2012, by Christopher Seward While chickens are running for the hills and its competitors are turning green with envy, Chick-fil-A accountants have to be giddy over Wednesday’s packed restaurants as patrons bought chicken sandwiches in droves to show support for company President and CEO Dan Cathy. The question now is whether there will be a repeat of the crowds Friday when gay and lesbians are expected to turn out for a “National Same-Sex Kiss Day” to protest Cathy’s recent warnings that the nation is “inviting God’s judgment” because it is trying to “redefine” marriage as anything but being a union between and man and woman. The Atlanta-based privately held company would not disclose sales or volume figures for Wednesday, saying in a statement: “Our goal is simple: to provide great food, genuine hospitality and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A,” according to CNN. As for the fallout over Cathy’s recent comments, the company earlier said, “Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.” Thousands of people in metro Atlanta and across the nation packed restaurants for Wednesday’s “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” led by former presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee. The former Arkansas governor told Fox News the day’s success went beyond “anything I could have imagined.” Huckabee also said he doesn’t oppose Friday’s protest, “As long as they’re orderly. As long as they don’t disrupt the flow of customers and traffic,” he told Fox. Friday’s “Kiss Day” is being sponsored by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, which has called for a boycott of Chick-fil-A not only for Cathy’s comments but also for the millions of dollars GLAAD says Chick-fil-A, through its WinShape philanthropic wing, has donated to groups that lobby against legalization of same-sex marriage. In its “Skip the Sandwich” campaign, GLAAD wants patrons to take the $6.50 they would pay approximately for a meal and donate the money to gay and lesbian rights groups, and post “Kiss Day” pictures on the Internet. Even some of Chick-fil-A’s competitors appear to be trying to catch some of the attention. According to CNN, some Wendy’s franchises in the Carolinas erected signs outside their restaurants that said, “We Stand With Chick-fil-A.” web page I was late for work yesterday because I drive by a Chick-fil-A on my way to work and the drive-thru line was out of the parking lot and into the street. We tried to go back for lunch but the inside lines were wound around the tables in the restaurant then at a different Chick-fil-A I drove by later last night, they had police directing traffic in and out of the parking lot.... How every Chick-fil-A wasn't out of food by 4pm yesterday is beyond me..... 3 fish and a loaf of bread I guess.

Saw a video some doofus shot of himself driving up to the window and unloading on some little gal. She was very diplomatic.
I thought it funny he was being intolerant of someone he believed to be intolerant! Oh, and he closed by saying, "Just so you know, I'm not gay". I guess he didnt want to be associated with the gays!

I mean, I assume that if you are spending $6.50 at Chik, then you are expecting to get a lunch or dinner out of the deal, right? If you donate that money, then you are still hungry.

If I dont support their goals why would I donate to their cause!
I'm not sure what prevents them from realizing we can NOT understand their sexual orientation, NOT condone it taught at school as a perfectly normal alternative, NOT enjoy them parading around semi nude and yet still accept them as fellow human beings, care about them and love them as friends and family. I believe that's most folks thoughts.

I find it quite funny that, all too often, the most intolerant are those claiming that others are intolerant - and all just because they don't share opinions.
I think that this whole chicken flap is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.

Not really... when you have two groups with diverging opinions, all you need is a spark... Dan Cathy provided that spark... like Disney has at times, the Dixie Chicks... and countless others. You have 2 groups of people who feel strongly in their opinions looking for an outlet.. this was it.
Then you throw in the blocking permits comments that actually took a lot of people in the middle who didn't really care and put them on Chick-fil-As side for purely political reasons and that has added another dimension to this..
And for the record, this is what I said a few days ago.. .
Quote:
if it plays out like I expect it to, it will go like this..... in the end it will backfire and Chick-fil-a will be better off than it was before....
Now what I said would happen after that is still undecided to this point....

No, really. It is.
What you have is a bunch of people that are completely over-reacting and acting out because they don't like the opinion of one individual, and then vast swarms of people counter-over-reacting..... everything after that is just the [non-]issue snow-balling.
Yes, I understand the dynamic of how it has all happened.... that doesn't mean that it isn't completely stupid as hell. The root of it all is that people on both sides are too self-absorbed to actually accept that it is perfectly Ok for someone to have an opinion that differs from their own.... and that doesn't even touch on how the issue has then been pounced on to be used by politicians.
Seriously, think about it---- a fast food chicken joint has become the single most polarizing force in American politics. If that doesn't scream "Idiocracy" in big, giant, blinking, neon lights, nothing does.

No it hasn't, no more than the Horseshoe is the polarizing force between OSU and Michigan. If they tore down the Shoe tomorrow and built a new stadium down the street, the feelings between OSU and Michigan would remain unchanged... Chick-fil-A is just a venue for polarized people to exert their frustration.

An opinion, I will add, that was pretty well known long before this one statement.

I think you are greatly oversimplifying the issue.. the root of it all is that you have two entrenched camps on this issue and policy is being made regarding it, public policy that affects us all, and that is what this is about... its not about a chicken sandwich, its not about freedom of speech, its not about building permits, its about gay marriage proponents and opponents using this as a vehicle to be heard... its funny 10,000 prolifers or 10,000 pro-choicers or 10,000 gay rights activists or 10,000 tradional marriagealists can hold a rally in a city and nobody really cares... this guy makes one statement that is perfect harmony with everything else he has ever said and all of the sudden its a media firestorm... I think its pretty neat myself.

That was my over-simplification, and half tongue-in-cheek. However, I stand by my statement.

Which only makes the whole thing dumber.... people are carrying about in mock-outrage (and even genuine outrage) over something that hasn't ever been a secret or hidden.

No, I don't think I am at all. People are using **chicken** to make a statement.
Basically, what you had was the gay marriage issue had fallen off of Page 1 news and something was needed to once again bring it back to the forefront. So, what do you do? You find someone that you know you can count on for a quote of a certain type, then spin a little, exploit the hell out of it, and sit back and watch the fall out.

Just commenting ..... If I own another fast food restaurant, I think that I'm on the news tonight saying how I agree with Chick-Fil-A, and how they represent my views exactly. With the massive lines at seemingly every Chick-Fil-A yesterday, and with traffic cones still in place at my local restaurant today attesting to a busier than normal day today as well, and with people waiting up to 2 hours in line yesterday (which I would never do) I would want in on this if I owned another restaurant chain.

What a nice guy. I loved the part about the "sit in". Yeah .... kids over in front of a shopping center are planning a sit in at Chick-Fil-A. Kinda ironic that his hate cost him his own job.

It's on the bottom of the page with the video. UPDATE from Business Insider: TUCSON, AZ–(Marketwire – Aug 2, 2012) – The following is a statement from Vante: Vante regrets the unfortunate events that transpired yesterday in Tucson between our former CFO/Treasurer Adam Smith and an employee at Chick-fil-A. Effective immediately, Mr. Smith is no longer an employee of our company. The actions of Mr. Smith do not reflect our corporate values in any manner. Vante is an equal opportunity company with a diverse workforce, which holds diverse opinions. We respect the right of our employees and all Americans to hold and express their personal opinions, however, we also expect our company officers to behave in a manner commensurate with their position and in a respectful fashion that conveys these values of civility with others. We hope that the general population does not hold Mr. Smith’s actions against Vante and its employees.

One can disagree with the tactics of Beck and the individual who went through the drive through and not be intolerant.

What specific "tactic" did he use in showing that guys video? I must have totally missed the boat, as did that guys company.
What "tactic" was put into place?

Beck can say what he wants about the individual. I have no qualms about that.
I'm referencing Beck's faulty logic he routinely displayed using chalk boards, Bill Ayers, Impending Islamic Takeover, and the US becoming the USSR

Oh. I wasn't aware the topic had changed from this guy at a chick fil A drive through into a "glenn beck" thread.
Do you have anything to say about the guys behavior at the drive through, or are we now on glenn beck, simply because the blaze aired the idiots self made video? Thanks in advance. It's always tough to have a discussion if one person flips topics at their own whim.

I think there was a more effective and mature way to carry across what he wanted to do. Some worker at the drive through isn't responsible for any of this mess.

There's a lot to talk about in all of this situation. I'm sorry if it's not kosher to talk about another person not related to Chick-Fil-A.
