34/35 ESPN commentators picked the Heat to win the East. the only surprise was that it wasn't a clean sweep. http://espn.go.com/nba/preview2012/story...erence-champion26/35 picked the Heat to repeat on the title. 8 picked the Lakers and 1 picked the Thunder (presumably before the Harden trade). In the Central, 5/35 actually picked the Bulls to win the division (w/o Rose for most of the season).

Still don't know what to make of the OKC/HOU trade. A lot of it is on potential, but considering it would have been tough to keep Harden and still run a team and make moves every year? Not a bad deal.
Kevin Durant is the kinda player who you can surround with most guys and they will be ok though. They're still in the thick of the West.

He looked good. Shot selection could have been a tad bit better, but he can score. Didn't look like a rookie. Dude can play.
I really like this group. Kyrie looks more like a leader this year.
Andy was a beast tonight too. What a pain in the ass it must be to deal with him in the paint.

Oh come on .... Andy only had 23 rebounds. It's not like he worked hard or anything.  Hell, 1 more point and 1 more assist and he would have had a triple double. I really like the way that Andy and Thompson played. They combined for 21 points, 33 rebounds, and 14 assists. That's not bad for your starting C and PF. Thompson may never be a superstar, but I think that he can be a really solid piece of a winning team. Miles and Gee had a rough night tonight. The went a combined 3-14 from the court. Irving is simply amazing.

We didn't play much of our bench tonight. I don't know what to think of Gee/Miles. Miles looked good in pre-season from what I saw/heard. Zeller got some minutes in his 1st game, and did a decent job. Is Luke Walton really still on the roster? Why?  Samuels supposedly really started turning things around this year, and looked good ..... but he didn't play one minute tonight. (probably because of the effectiveness of Andy and Thompson) I do think that Leuer could be a decent piece as well. Casspi, Harangody, Sloan ...... bleh. Pargo might be something as a backup. I dunno.

Luke Walton is really, really horrible. Seemed like he and Gee were tandemly responsible for that 18-point lead evaporating in minutes. Hopefully Zeller will come up to speed quickly.
Does Walton have a valuable contract this yer? If not, can we go back in time and amnesty him?

do not leave Sloan out of that equation!!!!
there is no reason that Walton should be getting minutes over Samuels. it's indefensible.
I would put Pargo out there over Sloan. both are bad, but Pargo can at least drive and distribute and run the 2nd unit. Miles and Zeller can hit shots in halfcourt sets. but we have to run those sets for them to have shots to take.

Just from my limited memory TT made most his points in the paint which is what I want and expect him to do. Waiters hit some very nice outside shots, drove the lane well and after the 2nd half I thought really did well.
These kids are going to do well and barring injury I think will contend for a very well low PO seed.
I know alot feel that is bad but I think its good.

Waiters hit a big three when they needed it. We'll see how good they are. They won a tough game at home vs the wizards without John Wall, so they really weren't great, but they won.

It will be a season-long thing to watch how this team comes together and it will depend a lot on who can stay healthy....
Mike Brown took a team to the finals so you either have to believe that Mike Brown is a decent coach or that LeBron plus a bunch of role players is better than Kobe, Howard, Nash, Gasol and some role players.. take your pick.

I backed him for a long time, but I just can't see him surviving this year. I know 0-2 is a knee jerk reaction and they will be fine, but I think ownership wants team to be a serious contender now, and I wonder if they really think he will be in the way.
Although Miami won with Spoelstra, so maybe we're over thinking this whole thing?
I actually think Mike Brown would be a much better college coach. Experience with coaching Kobe, Lebron, Dwight etc could help recruiting and I think his attention to detail would probably help because you can control college kids more than million dollar athletes.
As a Cavs fan, I'm really happy with B. Scott. He's not the best coach, but for this team? He's the absolute right coach. He has complete control over a very young and talented roster. Something Mike Brown never really got in Cleveland or LA.
