Glad to see it.. The push was on to get it done by our game tomorrow so it was equal time under the temp refs for all teams. I don't think the NFL wanted another prime time game with these guys.

Armando Galarraga and the Detroit Tigers fans everywhere agree regular refs have never blown a call. Even when getting into the hall of fame is at stake.

What do you want to bet that there's a bad call in Thursday's game that we're complaining about come Friday morning ..........?

It happens every week but at least we can comfort ourselves with the fact they were real refs blowing the call.

What do you want to bet it's not an obvious blown call that decides the game?

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Pit...that is funny...

Just a reminder...until the Union rank and file vote and approve this contract, it's not over. That said, it sounds like the Union negotiators are confident this contract will be ratified.

...but until the deal is ratified with a vote, it's not really over.

yeah, that is what i have been saying all along. The refs do influence the games and affect outcomes. It just got more press because the real guys were locked out. Us brown fans should know that first hand- some just have short memories i guess.
Anyways, i'm glad the regulars are back. I just hope they are held to the same standards as the replacements...... like a five minute gripe session from the talking heads when a play is questionable and has a direct affect on the outcome of the game.

Looked like he had one hand under the ball, between Jennings chest and the ball, the other hand came off the ball for a second then back on it as they came to the ground. I think it was an INT but not nearly as obvious as some seem to think. I have a question, in terms of a simultaneous catch situation in the endzone, when does the play end? Tate had more of the ball coming down to the ground, once on the ground Jennings rolled and it looked much worse. In the endzone, does the play end when they touch the ground? How long after they fall and roll around and fight for the ball do they get?

that is the biggest ? on the play. some think it should be over in the air, some think once they hit the ground, and others think "continuation" on the ground.

the "real" refs have called it many different ways over the years with 1 person catching the ball (the Calvin non-catch TD vs. Bears last year for instance), so it's impossible to interpret the rules as they seem to move and bend based on what the refs call on the field.

NFL announces officiating crew for Browns vs. Ravens

By Marc Sessler
Around the League Writer
Published: Sept. 27, 2012 at 10:35 a.m.
Updated: Sept. 27, 2012 at 10:56 a.m.

The names below aren't normally celebrated. They will be tonight.

Thursday night's meeting between the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, airing on NFL Network, will mark the return of the NFL's 122 officials.

The Browns are winless, but Bucky Brooks explains why they could give the Ravens a game on Thursday Night Football. More ...

Tonight's crew of heroes in black and white are as follows:

Referee Gene Steratore -- 10 years of NFL experience

Umpire Bill Schuster -- 13 years

Head linesman Wayne Mackie -- 6 years

Line judge Jeff Seeman -- 11 years

Field judge Bob Waggoner -- 16 years

Side judge Jimmy DeBell -- 4 years

Back judge Greg Steed -- 10 years

The replay official is Larry Nemmers and the replay assistant Ken Dollar.

Count it up. That's 70 years of league officiating experience flooding M&T Bank Stadium. Seven decades of seamless calls, on-field wisdom and order in the end zone.

We'll take it.

And the next head coach is ......

I think Baltimore fans will be doing a lot of smiling, laughing and cheering.

Side note: You think they'll do a little something special for art knowing the Browns are in town? Like one last poke to get under our skin.

Yeah, how many wrong calls, precedent setting calls, rule changing calls, mis-interpreted rules, and just flat out stupid calls have we seen go against us over the years?

I want to see one of our players rip one of those 'Art' patches off a uniform. I'll take the 15yd penalty.

Whichever player does it earns a place beside Steve Everitt in the Browns "fan first" hall of fame.

1. NFL AM is horrible.

2. Charlie Casserly, whos opinion I usually respect, just made two consecutive statements that made me

Statement 1: He disagrees with the idea of Full Time Refs, because he thinks a guy putting more time into it wouldn't really make officiating that much better, and it would just be a waste of money.

Statement 2: He thinks the refs need to get together and spend more time watching film and studying calls to improve on their officiating.

Still looks liek GB has the ball - Tate had one hand on it while Jennings had two, Tate pulls off hand and readjusts... he eventually gets both hands on it and shared possession, but to me watching it, it looks like Jennings has possession first then Tate gets shared possession which would be an INT.

For whatever it's worth.

If Jennings had possession, why is it so hard for him to get the ball out of Tate's grasp?

Tate gets both hands on the ball before Jenning has official possession on the ground.

I mainly posted that cause everyone was screaming about Tates right hand not being on the ball, when it clearly is in that view.

Give it up dude.

The defenders arm was between Tate, underneath the ball the whole time. It was Tate trying to rip it away from the defender who already had control of the ball and had that control the entire time from the air to the ground.

No conspiracy theory here accept the one you're trying to perpitrate.....

Where Jennings arm is has nothing to do with it.

The fact is Tate had both hands around the ball, and therefore ALSO had possession of it.

If you don't look at the obvious OPI, and the stupid ref waving his arms because he didn't know what was going on.

Theres nothing wrong with the ruling the ref made.

I do enjoy a good debate.

But I also can look at what happened on MNF and see what the ref saw.

I'm not blinded by a hatred for the NFL and Goodell like some other people.

Plus, once Tate had possession, and was down by contact, the play was over. The thing that people are confusing is the "degree of possession" that was brought up by the talking heads for some reason, but which doesn't appear in the rule, and which has no bearing on the play whatsoever.

As long as both players have any degree of possession and then either make a football move, or are down by contact, then play is over. Tate had, at least, half possession, and was on the ground. Then the defender hit the ground ..... but it doesn't matter at all what happens with him as long as the receiver is down by contact with possession.

I am stunned by how many are blowing up this play for this long. I can't remember any of the blown calls that went against us, and which have cost us games, that were ever drawn out like this one has been.

Hell, even the bad call that cost the Seahawks in the Super Bowl wasn't lamented like this one has been ..... and this one, at least, has an argument for being a correct call.

The best argument for the Packers is that the refs missed the OPI on Tate ..... but it wouldn't be the first time an official ignored PI at the end of a game. (or imagined it, for that matter)

I would like to see the rules changed so that any scoring play in the final 2 minutes of a game can be checked by instant replay for any reason.

I have been one of Goodell's stanchest Allies.

At least he finally made an apology to the fans for the replacement refs.

It is not in his powers to reverse the outcome of the game and I never expected that to happen anyways.

I still think that it should have been an INT.

Wrong again YTown

Quote:

The relevant portion of the official 2012 rules comes from Rule 8, Section 1, Article 3, Item 5: “It is not a simultaneous catch if a player gains control first and an opponent subsequently gains joint control.” (Emphasis added.) Thus, it doesn’t matter whether the officials determined that Tate and Jennings jointly had “possession” when they landed; the question is whether Jennings “gained control” first.

The part you bolded is not actually part of the rule, just someone interpretation of it and the events.

No two people always get their hands on the ball at the SAME EXACT TIME. And yet Simultaneous possession is still called.

Jennings does not have an Interception until he hits the ground.

Before he hits the ground, Tate gains possession of the ball aswell. And actually hits first. And from the video I just posted, Jennings has to rip the ball AWAY FROM Tate...

But anywhoo..

How great would a controversial game ending call be tonight?!

Forget all of that ... Jennings gained control first (the relevant part) and kept control though continuation of the play.

I never like to see a game disided by the refs ... lets hope it doesn't come down to that, but if it does, then I hope the error on the side of the good guys.
