OK, so ESPN is reporting that Tom Gamble is headed to The Jets .........

The world is ending .... the sky is falling ....... and we'll have no head coach or GM this year.

Tom Gamble favorite to become New York Jets GM -- sources - ESPN New York
http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/...jets-gm-sources

The New York Jets' search for a new general manager is focused on San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble, who interviewed for the job Saturday and has emerged as the favorite to become Mike Tannenbaum's successor, sources said.

Gamble told the Jacksonville Jaguars he wasn't going to take a second interview for their GM job so he could concentrate on landing the Jets' position, sources said.

The Jaguars have narrowed their GM search to Falcons director of player personnel Dave Caldwell and Cardinals vice president of player personnel Steve Keim, sources said. Caldwell interviewed Friday with the Jets.

Shortly after the Jets fired general manager Tannenbaum, they made a major push to interview and hire Ravens assistant general manager Eric DeCosta. Ultimately, they could not convince DeCosta to so much as interview for the job because he has a deal with Baltimore to be the successor to current GM Ozzie Newsome.

Gamble, the son of former Eagles president Harry Gamble, began his career in an entry-level position with the Eagles and worked his way up through the scouting and personnel ranks. He actually spent two seasons as a quality-control coach for the Jets under Rich Kotite (1995-1996).

The Jets received a glowing recommendation on Gamble from former NFL executive and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian, who worked as the Colts' GM when Gamble was a college scout for the team.

Gamble has spent seven years with the 49ers, currently overseeing pro and college scouting under GM Trent Baalke, a former Jets scout.

With what we now know, it is going to swing heavily on who we hire as coach.

Good, as I still hate the 49ers drafts. In the past 3 drafts they had 16 day 3 selections and none are starters. They swung for the fences with many boom or bust picks in rounds 1 to 3 and got lucky to hit a few but also had some major busts like DE Balmer and last draft's 1st rounder AJ Jenkins doesn't look good right now with 0 catches.

Players like Balmer, A.Smith, Kaepernick, A.Davis, C.Rachal were all known as boom or bust prospects. I don't like that kind of draft approach at the top of the draft.

49ers are actually a team that turned it around with improved coaching and good FAs signings (Rogers, Whitner, J.Smith, A.Brooks, J.Goodwin), NOT so much with their drafts

First GM opening filled. Cardinals promote Steve Keim from within.

hey, anytime you can promote a guy that was part of the staff who brought you Kolb and Skelton as your main QBs, while not having any semblence of an offensive line or decent RB, you just have to do it

Wow,, in todays presser, about the only comment about this opening was that instead of just Jimmy and Joe making the decision, Chud will be involved.

Otherwise, no discussion of anything. Hell, even the rumor mill isn't buzzing much

Well, because they're in talks with an unknown candidate....me.

I'm holding out for a 5-year deal, all the Browns merchandise I want and an unlimited card for beer and food at every home game.

My first move.....sign Phil and trade for Fitz.

OK here's a thought Chud worked with Phil Savage in 07-08 and Savage has been with the Eagles since 2010 as a player personnel. exec. Could we see his return? I haven't seen it anywhere but just thinking.

Maybe we could bring him back and he can trade for Jamarcus Russell?

The interview w George Paton that wasn't.

From the article:

"Still, there’s now a valid question in Cleveland, especially since new coach Rob Chudzinski doesn’t have personnel experience: Who will have final say when it comes to picking players?"

Where's mommy? Where's mommy? There she is....

I wish I was as naive as the rest of you, but this could have been seen coming the moment J&J talked about "consensus".

Mr. Highlight video will be the "tie breaker" if there's even a democratic element to this at all, as he has Jimmy's ear and with that 2 top voices already in this "consensus"

Im still waiting to see if they stick by their words of if the coach doesnt have a strong personal type background then they will hire a GM to fill that role, or as you said get a puppet for Banner to blame.

Chud or Banner?

If Chud, then I think it has something to do with him bringing DA along with him everywhere

though, maybe he just likes DA to be part of his golf foursomes

DA could be to Chud what VinnyT was to Belichick.

I hope any feeling of loyalty that Josh Gordon felt to the organization didn't walk out the door with Tom Heckert.

Scary thought. I feel money in his case will trump all when the time comes to re-up. Lets hope we have the cash in Cap space instead of spending it wildly in the next 2 years on specialist pass rushers, overpriced Guards, and backup QB's.
I would be ok with a slightly overpriced kicker though that has played here from the beginning of what feels like time itself.

LOL Don't hold your breath.. but it would be a great move.

I'm still not so sure that he wasn't offered a job that he just didn't want.

I don't think Heckert wanted to go back to the same thing he just left. He had the last say, that's what brought him here, I don't think he wants to return to what he left in Philly.

Apparently Ray Farmer is the "leading candidate" for GM. I'm not sure that I am a big fan of a guy that was in charge of bringing in Free Agents and chose players such as Brady Quinn, Payton Hillis, Matt Cassell, and others. I'd need to do some research on who he all brought in to give a true opinion though.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/14/ray-farmer-emerges-as-leader-for-browns-g-m-job/

As the Browns search for a General Manager, there’s finally a favorite for the job.

And some in the Cleveland media will be happy to know that it’s not Mike Lombardi.

Per a league source, Chiefs director of pro personnel Ray Farmer is believed to have the inside track to succeed Tom Heckert. Zac Jackson of FOXSportsOhio.com reported Saturday that Farmer interviewed on Thursday. Others report that the interview happened today. (Hey, if “others” can refer to us as “others,” we’ll refer to them as “others,” too.)

This could mean that Farmer had a second interview today. (Or that “others” are four days late.)

The two primary names connected to the job are Farmer and Lombardi. The fairly intense resistance articulated by some in the local media when Lombardi’s name first surfaced could make it harder for the Browns to sell a Lombardi hire.

As far as we can tell, neither Lombardi or Farmer have emerged in other G.M. searches, including the scorched-earth effort by the Jets to find a replacement for Mike Tannenbaum.

I was just wondering, has anyone heard of Lombardi actualy having an interview with the Browns for this job?

Nope. Lotta rumors, but like Haslam and Banner both have said .... only they know who the candidates on their list are.
