OK, so ESPN is reporting that Tom Gamble is headed to The Jets ......... The world is ending .... the sky is falling ....... and we'll have no head coach or GM this year. Caldwell interviewed Friday with the Jets. Shortly after the Jets fired general manager Tannenbaum, they made a major push to interview and hire Ravens assistant general manager Eric DeCosta. Ultimately, they could not convince DeCosta to so much as interview for the job because he has a deal with Baltimore to be the successor to current GM Ozzie Newsome. Gamble, the son of former Eagles president Harry Gamble, began his career in an entry-level position with the Eagles and worked his way up through the scouting and personnel ranks. He actually spent two seasons as a quality-control coach for the Jets under Rich Kotite (1995-1996). The Jets received a glowing recommendation on Gamble from former NFL executive and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian, who worked as the Colts' GM when Gamble was a college scout for the team. Gamble has spent seven years with the 49ers, currently overseeing pro and college scouting under GM Trent Baalke, a former Jets scout.

Good, as I still hate the 49ers drafts. In the past 3 drafts they had 16 day 3 selections and none are starters. They swung for the fences with many boom or bust picks in rounds 1 to 3 and got lucky to hit a few but also had some major busts like DE Balmer and last draft's 1st rounder AJ Jenkins doesn't look good right now with 0 catches.
Players like Balmer, A.Smith, Kaepernick, A.Davis, C.Rachal were all known as boom or bust prospects. I don't like that kind of draft approach at the top of the draft.
49ers are actually a team that turned it around with improved coaching and good FAs signings (Rogers, Whitner, J.Smith, A.Brooks, J.Goodwin), NOT so much with their drafts

Wow,, in todays presser, about the only comment about this opening was that instead of just Jimmy and Joe making the decision, Chud will be involved.

OK here's a thought Chud worked with Phil Savage in 07-08 and Savage has been with the Eagles since 2010 as a player personnel. exec. Could we see his return? I haven't seen it anywhere but just thinking.

Im still waiting to see if they stick by their words of if the coach doesnt have a strong personal type background then they will hire a GM to fill that role, or as you said get a puppet for Banner to blame.

Scary thought. I feel money in his case will trump all when the time comes to re-up. Lets hope we have the cash in Cap space instead of spending it wildly in the next 2 years on specialist pass rushers, overpriced Guards, and backup QB's.
I would be ok with a slightly overpriced kicker though that has played here from the beginning of what feels like time itself.

I don't think Heckert wanted to go back to the same thing he just left. He had the last say, that's what brought him here, I don't think he wants to return to what he left in Philly.

Apparently Ray Farmer is the "leading candidate" for GM. I'm not sure that I am a big fan of a guy that was in charge of bringing in Free Agents and chose players such as Brady Quinn, Payton Hillis, Matt Cassell, and others.
