Just in general.

If Phil Dawson and Josh Cribbs can't retire as Browns, who can?

Just because Phil sighed a 1 yr contract with SF doesn't mean he won't retire as a Brown, even if never kicks here again..

In today's NFL not many players stay with the same team. The game today isn't about team loyalty it is about who is going to pay you more, if the league in general was based around loyalty Urlacher (and like many others in the past years) wouldn't be looking for a job. It isn't about what you have done for a team in the past, it is about what can you do for the team now. Sad but true.

I'll vouch for that. It was one of the most outrageous things ever said in a football forum on DTs. It was definitely about Shurmur being untrustworthy because he looked like a rat.

More about Cribbs:

Josh Cribbs faces uncertain future after draft - ESPN
http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/76835/cribbs-faces-uncertain-future-after-draft

Josh Cribbs went to three Pro Bowls during his eight-year career with the Cleveland Browns, including last season. He holds seven Browns records, most of which are for returns and all-purpose yards.

Now, two weeks away from when most teams begin their minicamps, Cribbs is without a team. He is the last of the AFC North's top 20 free agents who remain unsigned.

Cribbs was expected to sign with the Arizona Cardinals this offseason, but he hasn't fully recovered from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. The Cardinals then used a third-round pick on Tyrann Mathieu, who has big-play ability as a returner.

Asked if Cribbs was off the Cardinals' radar, general manager Steve Keim told the team's official website: “That’s something we have already explored. At this point, I really can’t get any further into it, so I will leave it at that.”

That doesn't sound like Cribbs is on the Cardinals' priority list. Early in free agency, it was reported that Cribbs was deciding between the Cardinals and the New England Patriots. But the Patriots are no longer an option after they signed return man Leon Washington.

Two potential destinations for Cribbs are the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Lions didn't re-sign returner Stefan Logan, and the Buccaneers looked at Washington in free agency.

Just don't expect a reunion between the Browns and Cribbs. The new regime decided to part ways with Cribbs and kicker Phil Dawson, the two longtime faces of the expansion era Browns. Cleveland is set to go with Travis Benjamin, a fourth-round pick from a year ago, as its primary returner.

I love what Cribbs and Dawson have done for the Browns over the past years, but on the same note it stinks when your favorite team "big names" are basically special teams players. A kicker and returner. The Browns need to change that, and the change needs to happen now.

I agree with that 100%. (although we do have Joe Thomas, and I would take him over an OL in the NFL)

We do need playmakers on both sides of the ball. Hopefully Mingo will be the first of many playmakers we find over the next couple of years.

Good point about Joe Thomas, though he was a no brainier but if the Browns didn't draft him I think us fans would have burnt the stadium down, LOL. You got my point though in the long run.

So, after all these years of him wanting to be more of a WR, and many posters on here saying he should get the chance to because he would be a beast there, he is now on the outside looking in. As the article explores his possibilities it is all based on who needs a returner and who doesn't.

He was a great returner. Some rule changes affected his productivity. I appreciate all he did here, except griping about not being used primarily as a WR. Looks like no one else is all that interested in that either.

In all fairness is to Cribbs- I guess that is why the " Just PAY the MAN" took off...

He made some good money on his last contract. Probably more then he was worth. Now he is looking at league minimum. Probably not what he thought entering free agency. I'd be curious if the browns offered him a deal prior to FA and he turned it down??

I'm blanking right now- where is Brad Seely- that might be a logical landing spot for Cribbs.

Wouldn't that be something. McCoy, Dawson, and Cribbs back together.

*edit* could be... Ginn is gone from the 49ers. They may not feel great about Kyle Williams in that role and not sure how they feel about putting Lamichael James out there to get knocked around. Makes sense to me.

I think we should just resign him for cheap... He's clearly tested the market and he is still teamless, so I think his agent and him should be open to a "home team discount" ordeal.

But, I doubt that will even happen.

if a Superbowl quality team picks up our trash and they do well on the 49ers team... it would probably mean that:

1. we had a terrible coach last year
2. our FO is probably not be qualified for the job
3. Browns fans will freak out because we let quality talent walk away and they were not good enough for us but they are for the 49ers

Cribbs...got to love him.

Right now its all Medical for him. He had the shot at Zona but failed their medical test. Probably why we let him go n didn't wish to say so n influence other teams on going for him??? Guy gave it all for us...Thanks Josh! We'll always remember!

or 4. FO last year, by not signing long term contracts, and this year knew this team cannot win the super bowl in the next couple of years gave these few guys a shot playing for a winner. By waving or not resigning, lets these guys negotiate best fit.

Cribbs visiting with the Jets:

Oh... and let's not forget that according to reports, Oakland offered him a contract after meeting with him.

My advice to Cribbs would be... sign it quick before they reconsider!

Hope the guy lands a job somewhere.

He probably will. Probably not for what he thought, but even minimum or close is a good living.

Agreed. Deven Hester flopped as a WR, why others think Cribbs is the "answer" does make me laugh. In college he was a QB, gained 20 something pounds to make him a functional player in the NFL. He worked his butt off to get to that point but lacks the skill set and good for him. BTW he had a tight special team unit, so don't forget the other 10. He did his role and did it well, but he is not the be all end all to the Browns success.

He is not the answer but the browns need players who commit to achieve their goals.

I think he'd be a good fit for the Lions.

Oakland Raiders offer Josh Cribbs a contract
http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumor...act?eref=fromSI

The Oakland Raiders have not only visited with free agent wide receiver Josh Cribbs, but have also offered him a contract. The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Cribbs passed a physical for his knee with the Raiders, and was offered to become a member of the Silver and Black. However, three other teams are interested in Cribbs, one of them being the New York Jets, which he will meet next. Cribbs was actually close to signing with the Cardinals earlier in the offseason, but concern over a torn meniscus caused them to back out. He is now healthy and apparently drawing the interest of teams around the league. Cribbs was among the top 10 returners in the league for punts and kickoffs last season for the Browns. In 38 punt returns last season, Cribbs recorded 457 yards. He also had 1178 yards on 43 kickoff returns.

Seeing Cribbs in Chokeland's colors would be a lil strange to see.

If that is what Josh wants, then I still am going to wish him the very best!

what are the chances that PAIPAI FALEMALU, DL #42, Height: 6-3, Weight: 240 might get a look at ILB?
Just curious on others thoughts. He seems small for our DL

Thought Dansby would have been a good fit here. I'd still like to see the Browns sign Kerry Rhodes.

I liked Cribbs, but Bess will be a much more useful receiver. He will help this team far more than Cribbs has.

As a return guy - as a receiver he was ordinary at best

I'd rather have a good wr eight the way the kick game is now - also I think we have some you g guys like Benjamin who can take over return duties

I appreciate what cribs did for us but I'm not all that shook up abut him being gone - I miss Dawson more than anyone else
