FSU played BC nearly two months ago. Since then they've outscored their opponents 322-51 over six games. I wouldn't call that struggling.
They still struggled in that game. No mention of it was ever really made. The critics love to get all over OSU though.
Likely because FSU was ranked 8th at the time and weren't really in the discussion for the title game.
I guess I just don't know what more some Buckeye fans want. There are four top unbeatens, and I think most would agree that they're ranked appropriately. At this point all I want is for them to settle this whole thing on the field, but that's most likely not going to happen this year.

I agree with the current rankings. I have yet to meet an Ohio State fan that thinks they should be 1 or 2.
I just find it funny that Ohio State gets criticized for this petty stuff that the other top teams are guilty of.
Obviously it showed up in the new rankings. Baylor gained a lot of ground on OSU. Some of the experts think it was because they gave up a bunch of points at Illinois. Yet there was no mention of Baylor giving up a bunch of points and spotting Texas Tech 20 in the first quarter.
I agree though, that this should be played on the field. I can't differ between Baylor and Ohio State all that much, especially by resume. I think against a top tier opponent like an Alabama or FSU, Ohio State would be a better matchup because I believe they have the ability to be more balanced. That's just what I see with my own eyes, I know Baylor's offensive numbers are sick.

the experts are morons. the computers are not allowed to take in scoring differential. the voters can, but Ohio State went from 3rd overall in both polls to 3rd overall in both polls.
the main reason that Baylor gained on Ohio State was because they beat a team with +4 wins that week (SOS), Stanford lost, and Auburn won (they jumped up in SOS). the biggest part being that Stanford lost.
This week: 3 Ohio State 3(Harris), 3(Coaches), Computers: 5,4,3,4,6,5,7 = 34 4 Baylor 4(Harris), 4(Coaches), Computers: 3,3,5,5,4,4,4 = 28
Last week: 3 Ohio State 3(Harris), 3(Coaches), Computers: 4,4,4,4,6,5,3 = 30 4 Stanford 5(Harris), 5(Coaches), Computers: 3,5,3,3,3,3,4 = 24 5 Baylor 4(Harris), 4(Coaches), Computers: 5,3,6,5,7,4,8 = 38

Ohio State gets criticized for their schedule and inability to blow bad teams away BECAUSE everyone agrees with the rankings.
Everyone is in agreement that Alabama and Florida State should be #1 and #2 so when the conversation does get brought about Ohio State jumping one, the obvious answer is "What have they done to jump anyone?"
The answer is nothing.
Right or wrong, and you've already admitted that it's right, Ohio State is the odd team out. They're the team that needs to do something to prove they're worthy of jumping another team and they haven't done that.
Alabama and Florida State are in a position of "just win" ... Ohio State doesn't have that luxury.

I agree with the second part, but inability to blow away bad teams? have you not seen some of these scores?
I mean yeah, they haven't blown out these teams every single week, but does that really matter? Do they leap frog FSU if they win all these games 60-10?
A lot of the argument in this topic doesn't have as much to do with OSU as it does with the other teams.
The only difference between FSU and OSU is the Clemson win.
What if OSU beats MSU, and Clemson loses to South Carolina?

You have to remember ohio state was number 2 to start the year.I don't think I could ever recall a team going 12-0, started the season 2nd, and didn't get in. The acc is an average league. I definitely would take wisconsin, and msu over teams like clemson, and duke. No way fsu goes into wisconsin, and east lansing and wins 51-14. Clemson sucks.

cmon. the ACC and Big10 are on even footing this year. and both are behind the SEC and Pac12. but hey, all are ahead of the BigXII (where somehow terrible Texas is still in the mix for a conference championship - at least for now).

I think there was a huge overreaction when they went into Clemson and did them like that.
That's a good win, but Clemson was viewed as a juggernaut. Who have they beaten this year? Their signature win was against an unranked Georgia team.

Georgia was #5 in the country at the time. The ranking was wrong, but the perception was real, which is still helping Clemson (and therein FSU).
I'm happiest about the selection committee even more than the 4-team playoff next year. It should strip away a bunch of this pre-conceived notion garbage that goes on now.
also, I hope that if the Buckeyes do go undefeated with a Rose Bowl win that it serves as a way for Meyer to get Braxton back for one more year. I doubt it, but with all these other QBs going out and unfinished business, you never know.

The Georgia team Clemson beat also isn't the same Georgia team now.
That team was just decimated by injuries.

Braxton would be stupid to go into the draft. He is not accurate at times. Just don't think he is an nfl passer.
I agree about the big 10 and acc.i just think wisconsin or michigan state would beat clemson. Their defense is weak.

Lot of their injuries were on offense. Their defense has been bad all year. Lost too many guys to the nfl. Even if they're healthy, they probably lose a few games because of their d.

that is true and somewhat fair, but as Alpoe already noted it is the offense that was mostly decimated. and, the offense hasn't missed much of a beat throughout (scoring in the high 20s or 30s in their losses and in the 40s in their wins). that defense has been their issue all year starting in the Clemson game.

I understand that. My point is that if Ohio State takes crap [deservedly so] for certain games and their schedule, why don't the other teams take crap for similar games and schedules?
Does that make sense to you?

The bottom line is the perception of the Big Ten right now is what is hurting Ohio State. And, that won't change until Michigan is Michigan again and Penn State is Penn State again.
This seasons Ohio State schedule has been as week as I have ever seen. Couple that with folks watching Michigan struggle against Akron and UConn and it looks even worse nationally. Wisconsin and Michigan State are decent teams and Ohio State is dominant in the Big Ten. But, Ohio State does not have a game on their schedule that everyone is pointing to that says man if they were to go on the road and win that game it would be impressive.
Florida State beat Clemson and Miami on a national stage when everyone pointed at those games one on the road and the other at home.
Alabama won at Texas A&M and beat LSU at home. LSU is not as good as past years but they are viewed nationally as a powerhouse year in and year out.
Frankly, I think the SEC is down some this year and the ACC is average at best. The PAC 12 is by far and away the strongest conference this year. The Big Ten and the Big 12 just are not as good and even though OSU is they get lumped in right or wrong.

I understand that. I guess what I am saying is that the national media is influencing people.
Miami stinks. They got beat by VA Tech and freaking Duke after losing to Fl. State.
Miss. State has more losses than wins.
Other than A&M, who has Alabama really beat? LSU? Like you said.........they aren't all that good this year.
I agree w/you that Ohio State's schedule is weak. My contention is that the national media [ESPN in particular] is making a bigger deal out of it than it is and ignoring how weak the schedules of other team's are, and also downplaying their poor games.
We win by 25. Bama wins by 12. Our performance is called lackluster. Alabama is said to have rolled over Miss. St. I call BS.

Here's the thing that irritates me. OSU started the season at 3 in the AP, behind Bama and Oregon, and 2nd in the USA Today poll. Oregon then jumped OSU in the USA Today poll. Then Clemson jumped OSU in the AP. The Clemson loses, and does OSU move up? No. FSU makes a huge jump from 5 to 2. They also make the jump to 3 in the USA poll. Then Oregon loses, and people start talking up Stanford. (at that point, a 1 loss team) Of course, then Stanford lost again, ruining that narrative. Now, this week, Baylor jumps the Buckeyes in the USA Today poll. Look at the last 3 weeks, especially. In the past 3 weeks we have won 63-14, 56-0, and 60-35. That's "not enough" and we're losing ground as a result. Ridiculous. I do think that the negative press given OSU on a national basis has impacted the polls. This OSU team has the possibility of going undefeated for 2 straight years, and not playing for the national championship. That is disgraceful. (especially given that they faced a post-season ban last year, while Miami was given a slap on the wrist this year for their problems) Sorry, but I do see an anti-OSU bias.

why I hate how the Buckeyes schedule so far in advance. 10yrs ago when the Cal deal was signed they were expected to be our "marquee" OOC game.
Which is a risky proposition.. Cal is not historically a really good team, decent... yes, but it's not a sure thing. Heck look at Miami's win over Florida this year.. Florida is really down, they are the 4th best team in the state of Florida.. but beating Florida still carries more national significance than beating Cal even when they are decent.. just like Clemson beating Georgia.. it's Georgia, it doesn't matter so much that Georgia is or is not ranked.. their losses are the Clemson, Missouri, Auburn, all ranked.. there only bad loss is to Vandy.. but they also beat South Carolina and LSU... this is the kind of tree that gets national attention that the Big 10 is lacking. In short, the Big 10 needs to start scheduling some SEC teams, sad as that may be to say, that's how you get name recognition... and don't forget, Clemson still has South Carolina on the schedule and Florida State still has Florida, who they should beat by 50, but it's still florida..

FSU beat #3 Clemson by 37 points. Ohio State beat Iowa by 10. Being tied in the fourth quarter against a 4-3 team is not a recipe for moving up in the polls, especially when a lower ranked team crushes a team ranked above you.

I'm just saying that every time anyone wins or loses, people makes excuses to move OSU down, despite the fact that they just keep winning, and have the longest winning streak out of any of the teams involved.

The sec schools rarely want to come up north and play a home and home. Michigan State had a deal with Alabama, but they backed out. Just like Vandy, and Tennessee did with Ohio State. They only want to play at nuetral settings, usually in the south. Bama will play in Dallas, or Atlanta, where their fans could fill joint up. I believe Wisconsin plays bama to open the year in 2015, and they also play LSU in 2016.

They started the season at 2.
There is speculation that Baylor will overtake them next week, even if OSU wins by 100.

I'm not blown away by them. I've only seen a game or two in full though.
I've watched probably 5-6 Baylor games. I love that offense. Their defense is much improved. When they had RG3, they played little to no defense.

I don't like the BCS or committee system. Too much bias involved. Take the major conferences - sec, big10, big12 pac12, acc (that is 5, thought there were 6. am I missing anybody?) and their champions get in. Then use whatever system you want BCS formula, committee whatever and pick the next top teams to round it out to 8. I would make one of those be the top team not in an automatic bid then the next 2 top teams regarless of conference affiliation.
That gives you:
4 games on NY day. What a wonderful football day. (I haven't watched NY day football in year's. The games are so meaninglessI can't tolerate them.) Then 2 games the next Saturday a t least a full week later, then the championship either the next week or the Saturday before superbowl Sunday. Only extends the the season 2-3 wks and only adds 2 additional games for the championship participants.
Increases the number of meaningful regular season games.
Brings back the importance of rivalries. My two favorite teams used to be Ohio St and whoever was playing Michigan. Now I have to root for Michigan so that when we beat them we get more computer points.
Eliminates (or at least minimizes) conference bias in the selection process as each conferences champion gets in. If you are in a really tough conference you could end up with 2 losses and have no chance of getting in, whereas a team from a lesser conference could be undefeated and not get in. Not under my system.
Tremendously cuts down on controversy. Didn't get in but thought you should have? Hey, all you had to do was win your conference and you would have been in. Sorry about your luck. Then the champion is really decided on the field
My system > your system > next years 4-team playoff > Current BCS
My system: This may take a while, but I'd like to see four 16-team super conferences (Div 0 - nobody plays Div1 teams at all). Each conference will have two 8-team divisions. The winner of each division will battle in a conference championship game to then go into a 4-team playoff. No rankings, no BCS, & no debate. Maybe it expands to an 8-team playoff, although it kind of already is at that point, but you get my drift.
All the MAC and WAC conferences are left out but they don't really have a chance anyway. They still get their Massengill Winter Breeze Freshness Bowl.
It would be really cool if they could incorporate a relagation system and let junky/deserving teams earn their way down/up into the Super division, but that's kinda hard to implement if these 64 teams would be breaking away from the NCAA (at least in my plan they would be creating their own semi-pro league).
As for the Buckeye fans out there, I don't really see any chance your team will be playing in he BCS this year. I just don't see Bama or FSU losing. I know teams always have a way of grinding out a loss, especially near the end, but I just don't see these two teams taking their foot off the pedals.
It's really too bad we don't have the 4-team playoff this year. That would have been a lot of fun.

Nice. I've been saying for a while now that the powerhouse conferences need to abandon the NCAA and do exactly what you're suggesting with the four divisions or whatever you'd like to call them.

Illinois was a 2 score game with 9 minutes left.
20 point win over Buffalo 18 point win over Cal 10 point win over Northwestern 10 point win over Iowa
Florida State is going out and beating teams of that quality --
Syracuse by 56 Wake by 56 Miami by 27 NC State by 32 Clemson by 37 Maryland by 63
That's my point.

yep. that's part of the problem. the other part is that they have no inclination to give some of the powerhouse Northern schools a recruiting trip into hotbeds during the season.

The current reason SEC schools won't come North to play home and home's is because there's no benefit to them to do so.
Think about it, if you're a team like Georgia and you already have to play a schedule of Auburn, South Carolina, LSU, Missouri, Florida just inside of your conference, what does it benefit you to add another game against a Michigan or Ohio State?
It's tough for Ohio State to get a big time out of conference game because in terms of the BCS, a big time game like that doesn't benefit anyone except Ohio State.

The SEC gains nothing by coming up north to play a game.
They are at the top of the mountain right now, and have been for 6-7 years.
If they came up to Madison or Columbus for an early season matchup, winning that game does nothing. You can't be any more dominant than they've been.
If you ask me, playing on a neutral field in an early season big game defeats the point of college football being great. I live for Georgia going into Clemson. I don't care for Alabama playing Michigan at Cowboys stadium. That's dumb. It's a crappy bowl game atmosphere instead of bedlam.
I do believe power conferences are coming. If everything gets split up into bigger conferences, I hope the NCAA takes a little bit of scheduling power away, and decides themselves to set up early season matchups, especially if rankings were to not mean anything.
I would love to see Alabama HAVE to come up to a Big Ten stadium, or vice versa.
