Chud sticking with Weeden as starter:

I think our head coach is one hair short of being a total moron. JMO though.

At the end of the day, we're not playing for anything but draft position, and Weeden gives us the best chance in that regard.

If there's impending signs of mutiny, then you yank the guy. Until then, you trot him out there.

3-5 looks way uglier knowing that its almost a formality now.

Pittsburgh would then pass us in the standings, and we'd assume our familiar place at the bottom of the division - assuming that they will beat Oakland this week.

MKC questioned the source of this in her Monday afternoon video chat on cleveland.com.

She expects Weeden to probably start ..... but she does not believe that Chud has, necessarily, already made that decision.

A line for that article you posted, "At some point in his career, Brandon Weeden will throw to a player who is inactive."

I would say that the Browns may draft a QB (or even two) but they won't use an early draft pick on them. They'll use 3rd round or later to select the QB(s).

I expect that they will use their early draft picks on offensive weapons (big WRs or TEs) or defensive players (linebackers or defensive backs) or to shore up the offensive line (OGs).

Of course, any of these positions may also be filled in free agency.

It makes sense to not throw Campbell at the only undefeated team in the league. Let Weeden take another fall since that will be the likely outcome regardless who the QB is.

Then we have a Bye which will give Campbell enough time to get his feet under him before proceeding. It only makes sense to me to do it that way.

It's not like Chud's an idiot who wants to give Weeden another chance to prove himself. He's already proven himself. Everybody knows who he is by now. He made his bed, now let him get wrapped up in the sheets and beaten to a bloody pulp.

I was just going to make a similar post. Why throw Campbell in there for his first start against that vicious D. Weeden earned it.

I get what he is saying. Guys who throw deeper passes tend to have a lower completion percentage. People ragged on Luck last year for his completion percentage. Heck, I argued w/all sorts of guys on here about the absurdity of comparing Luck's numbers w/Weeden's.

The thing is that instead of chucking it down all the time, Luck actually threw it downfield. Hurts the completion percentage, but yards per pass attempt do increase.

I do get the point about not getting any yards hurts the yds. per pass attempt, but I can't believe you really didn't get what the guy was saying.

And you really didn't think the flip was a bad play? LOL man. It wasn't like he was throwing it away. He threw it high and into traffic. He got lucky that it wasn't picked. It was a monumental ignorant play.

That's exactly what I was saying, Vers. You'd think if he was attempting the shortest passes in the NFL, he'd have at least an average completion rate.

And by the way, I never said the flip wasn't a bad play. Both flips were terrible plays. Not sure what post you may have read to make you think that.

As far as the comment goes, no I'm still not surprised about Weeden having both a low YPA and a low completion percentage. For a few reasons.

1) YPA doesn't care how many yards through the air the ball travels. It cares how many yards are gained on the play. If Case Keenum hits Devier Posey on a seven yard slant in stride and Posey takes another 35 yards, that's 42 yards for that attempt. If Weeden hits Greg Little on an 18 yard out, and Little has to leap to catch it, and then he gets pushed out, that's a good play for Weeden but it's only 18 yards on the attempt. That's been Weeden's best throw, but it doesnt really lend itself to YAC.

2) If you're not very accurate, and receivers have to break stride to catch the ball, they're not going to be piling on a lot of YAC, even on routes that lend themselves to that.

3) As you and Flap pointed out, add in a bunch of zeroes and that number drops pretty quick.

Well the scenario about letting Campbell prepare during the bye week makes complete sense. I'm assuming that's exactly what they're doing. They cannot absolutely under any circumstances trot Weeden out there for the next home game with him making the kinds of mistakes he's making. He'd get booed out of the stadium.

Sorry if you based that on what I said. I took a quick glance at the schedule and saw the Chiefs on the road, but missed the Ravens at home before our bye week.

A home game with Weeden against the Ravens? No thanks. Plug in Campbell this week or before that game.

Come on Brownies!!!...We've been through every bad scenario a team can think of.This is nothing I tell you,it's nothing.Let them tank, who cares...it's not like we haven't seen a bad record before. The stockpile of picks and money this team has,is serious capital that will be spent for next year. They have some good things in place already, and will draft some real weapons for the offense,as well as solidifying the line.Things are going to get better, they really will.We are the best and most tempered fans there are in this league, and we can take it for another year.Just keep thinking about how great it will be,when they bring in those missing pieces.Did anyone think we would have a decent defense this year? Heck no.Does it still need work? Sure it does, and it will come.Look at how good we started playing with a decent QB,and how they started becoming a real team.Cheer up,things are not as far away as people think.I know it's no fun to watch them right now,but change is coming.Hang in there, this team is going to do some pushing of its own next year.(and I hope the no good, dirty rotten,Stooler fans read this, because the days of laughing at us are over)

My bad for getting the Bye Week wrong. Thank you for pointing that out.

That being the case we put Campbell in now vs. the Chiefs for his "warm-up" game in prep for beating the Rats. I don't see us beating the the Chiefs regardless. There's no sense delaying the inevitable.

It can be explained by Chud as "looking for a spark".

Until Weeden develops some touch, he won't improve, imo. You can't throw as hard as you can to a guy twenty feet away.

Sure you can. Just ask Derrick Anderson.

We have seen them do well in signing FA players.

What's left to find out is how well they will draft.

That is yet to be determined. Mingo has his bright spots then has some weaknesses. He is young, so the jury is far from being in on that pick.

You seem to be stating with some certainty that this FO will hit a home run on many draft picks. And while we all hope that's true, it is yet to be seen. It is very rare that a team cleans up in one draft. In most cases, there are hits and misses even from some of the best evaluators.

There certainly is plenty of cap room left and plenty of draft picks, but the key to it all is how well they are used. I believe we can see that they have done a pretty good job in the FA market, but you can't build a team through the FA market.

So hopefully you are correct with their ability to draft. Sorry if I just want to see more evidence that it's true before stating it as a fact.

If I were the Coach I'd quietly tell Campbell to get ready to go but let him know you aren't going to pull the pin until Bye Week. Then you just ride that weird and wonderful torpedo that is Brandon Weeden right into the ground. After the Bye you come out with Campbell and see what he's got. It's obvious that the Browns are a few bricks shy of a load this year so there's no hurry. In the mean time I'd be looking for a #3 QB just in case Anderson, err I mean Weeden, gets his block knocked off in his last two weeks. Once you make the switch to Campbell you either make Weeden inactive or get rid of him.

Weeden's time in Cleveland is over. Hoyer proved that.

I have a serious question for people.

What if Campbell is actually worse than Weeden?

What if the Campbell we see on a regular basis is the Campbell we saw at the end of the Ravens game?

What then?

Then we at least credit the front office for at least trying to help the team win cause we ain't getting NOTHING done with the blind Weeden. WR's heads are down as balls sail by them. WR and RB's body actions are clear to read. Facial expressions indicate that Weeden has lost respect from the players.

But.. I find it hard to believe that Jason is remotely worse than Weeden though. There is only one way to find out! Can it get any worse bro?

Even if he is worse, would anything really change? Crappy QB playing isn't going to win many games, regardless of the level of crap. I mean, what will happen, we lose?

Then we have our answer about what to do with a draft pick. Weeden is just not getting the job done. Two more games before the Bye will still give him time. Personally, I just don't see him doing anything more than what we saw on Sunday against the Packers. If he's as bad as Weeden then we're no more screwed than if we made no change at all.

By that logic, we already have the answer.

Campbell was bypassed to our #3 QB when they started Hoyer, so it's obvious they don't see Campbell as a viable starter as it stands now.

I don't see that starting Campbell or keeping him on the bench effects their plans to draft a QB.

Definitely.
The ONLY thing that Campbell is the answer to is "Guess who we will avoid giving playing time to this season".

While maybe this doesn't address your question, I think it opens up another thought.

Once they go to Campbell, it will be impossible to go back to Weeden. At that juncture, I would see a need to sign yet another QB. Since I believe if they felt there was really someone out there I thought they saw as a legitimate possibility, I believe they would have already done so...... Why make the move now?

I don't really see a right or wrong here. We have two QB's and neither is the answer. As I've heard it said... It's six of one and half a dozen of the other.

Then you tell Weeden he has a third chance.. And if he fails again, you just ride that ship until seasons end and get yourself ready to draft a young guy and develop him,.

But in the off season, you dump Weeden and Campbell, keep hoyer as your starter (penciled in) and go get some other guys. Draft hopefully.

Hoyer is out for surgery. Until he's back in football shape there's absolutely no way you can count on him. Anything could happen. I hate to say it but Hoyer is gone and may never return. That's the way the Team must proceed until Hoyer convinces them otherwise.

This QB situation sucks as bad as anything we've ever had. At some point we have to rule out Campbell. I don't see that happening until after the Bye. If Weeden drops two more games and looks like he has so far doing it there's really no sense in pining away for a miracle.

There certainly was a reason why Campbell got passed over by Hoyer. That doesn't matter now because that ship has sailed for the time being. I'm not fool enough to believe that Campbell will come in and light up the place. But I do know that sticking with Weeden is going nowhere fast.

Griffin and Wilson would be the two I would be most-interested in, but Griffin just got promoted to the active roster today. Maybe they were worried he'd get poached.
