We will never know, we had such a small sample of Hoyer. 2 games isn't enough. Jason Campbell looked really good in his first 2 starts too...
Every QB gets hurt, other than Favre, who always came off as a dumbass but was incredibly smart about his body on the field. The good ones avoid is more than the rest. Brady just had the one year where the guy rolled into him, Manning had just that one year with the lingering neck issue...
Brees had his one issue in SD, and Rodgers had just a few games this year.
It's definitely a mix of smarts and luck.

I'm going to lock this thread, anyone can feel free to start a new one. When we decided to go with unlimited pages we were not aware of how this would effect people accessing the board on phones, etc. It's not working for those folks at all.
