I think the coaches forgot to tell them we don't own that protected pick anymore.

Ugly doesn't begin to cover tonight's game. Bleh.
The good thing? This was only 1 game.

Soo many blowouts this season already, way too many.. I have ZERO confidence that mike brown or this staff has a clue...it's going to be a long season

we need more consistent play from kyrie and we need to get tougher down load...we have a bunch of cream puffs down there

I know people love Andy and he's gotten better on offense. However, he's really bad on defense.

Which is weird considering that defense was always his strong point.

Wow ... huge game for the front court tonight. Deng with 27 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Thompson with 15 points and 13 boards. Varejao with 18 points, 18 boards, and 6 assists. Zeller added 8 points, 6 rebounds, and an assist in a reserve role. Dion had a huge 4th quarter too. Did I mention that I really like the Deng deal?

Deng had a strong night ... 5-5 behind the arc. Quote:

He's defense was best when he was the 4 ... now he's being asked to cover centers, and he's a little undersized for that.

Yeah, but even last year he looked better on defense. He sure had a monster year on offense and on the boards though tonight.
Cavaliers win 3rd of their last 4.

Andy's M.O. has always been scrappiness. He's starting to get up there in age, has had a few injuries, and I think has been asked to bulk up a bit so that he can play the 5. He's not able to be as scrappy as he once was.

Yeah, and in all honesty, 15/15 is nothing to complain about, and I think that he can deliver that ..... plus he has solid passing ability. I do like what Zeller has been showing in his backup role. He looked like a beanstalk last year, and he has added some bulk to his frame this off-season. He's not a guy like Shaq, but he is much more sturdy looking than he was last year. He obviously did a lot of work, and the added size doesn't seem to have slowed him down at all. Man, I am so excited by what Deng brings to this team. We have had that black hole at SF since you know who left ..... and while Deng isn't Lebron, he's a very solid option at the 3. I can see him being a 20 PPG guy with this team and their ability to drive and dish. The team already seems to trust him and are more than willing to pass him the ball for open looks. I am really excited to see what he 2nd half of the season will bring. Right now we are 2 games out of the 7th spot in the playoffs ... and only 6 out of the 3rd spot. Man, with as bad as this team played with Bynum in the lineup, that's just amazing. It's hard to believe that a move that bombed so badly may actually work out for the team. Grant really did have a genius moment with the way he structured that contract. Either Bynum was going to be a player, or an asset. He turned into a real asset, and brought us a guy I think will be key for us the rest of the way out. We are 38 games into the season, and I think that this team is capable of playing around .500 ball here out. They seem to be improving and gelling, and Deng is fitting in like he'd been here all year. We finish of this road trip at Portland and Denver. With the way this team has played on the road this year, winning 2 of 5 was a victory. Now it's time to get greedy and win another 1. (or even 2) We played Portland tough earlier this year in Cleveland only to lose on a last second 3. Man it would be nice to return the favor. Denver, while still a good team, is only 1 game over .500. They are beatable. Imagine of we can win 3 or 4 games on a 5 game road trip. Wow! OK, I have said that I think that we can go .500 (or close to it) here out, and that we might win 3 of 5 on this road trip. Now cue the negative Nancy response from a certain other poster. I really do think that Deng will be a huge difference maker for this team. I know that some, or at least 1 poster, really disagree with me ...... I don't care though. I am really excited for this team again. Deng really seems to be that missing piece.

w/ Deng = 2-1 w/o Deng = 2-15

It is amazing that they were decent at home. (currently 10-8)
I think that Deng's presence will be felt on the road, where he will help settle the team down. Man, I still can't believe we got him for Bynum and a couple of draft picks.

It's because he's a free agent at the end of the year. He could turn into a one year rental if we decide to go after some other Small Forward.

Could say the same for Bynum though, technically...
For the Cavs, it's definitely the right move. They have to make the playoffs. I don't think tanking is smart this year.
I know the class is better than the last few years, but at the very most, you have 22% and change chance at getting number 1, and I'd say the law of averages will catch up to us this year. We've had number one 3 times in a decade. I think there are teams, even some bad ones, that have yet to get number 1.
I know some see the 8th seed as NBA purgatory, and that's partly true, but you can only build your team through high draft picks so much before that culture comes back around on you...
If you know who doesn't come back, and they don't land anyone else, and KI takes off for LA, then we can jump right back into that pool, but for now, I think this is the right move, trying to get a low seed in a top heavy conference...

Did you see who was playing for the Lakers? Pau Gasol, Bob Sacre (!?), Jodie Meeks, Wesley Johnson, and Kendall Marshall with contributions off the bench from Ryan Kelly, Nick Young, Jordan Hill, and Chris Kaman. That is horrible! Literally only one of those players can kind of play defense (Jodie Meeks).

I didn't say it wasn't the right move (it was a great move) ... I was saying the reason we got him so cheap was because he's possibly a 4 month rental.

That roster sounds better than most of what the Cavs have had since Lebron left. Okay, maybe a wash.
But dang, how the mighty have fallen. Kobe is hurt and will probably be hurt until his new extension runs out (and then retires). I wonder how they'll rebuild with an aging Kobe and a dead roster.
Meh.

Winning and losing culture belongs in that lame cliches thread. There's talent and there's teams that don't have it. Remember Boston before the Big 3? Look at them now. I don't see this mythical winning culture. I see a team with limited talent.

I remember everyone in Boston wanted to get rid of Doc Rivers before they got the Big 3 ... then they got them, and suddenly he was this hall of fame worthy coach.

I just can't comprehend how you see these squads as 'solid' or 'damn good'. Is it hyperbole? Wishful thinking? Ignorance? Goading?
Weren't you the one who listed Karasev as the starting 3 on a squad that 'could compete with anyone'?

Maybe culture wasn't the right word. I just think you can only tank for so long before the guys you have get fed up and wanna take off.
That's why I think it's important that this group gets their feet wet this year. The taste of losing in the playoffs is something they all need to experience. If a team commits themselves, a good buttkicking can help you going into the next year. I really think that first Lebron team that made the playoffs and lost to Detroit played huge dividends going into the following year. Same team, same opponent, but about halfway through the series the second time around the Cavs became a better team.
The Cavs will never do that with Miami right now, because the talent level is what it is, but I think it may help them during the year with not taking nights off because they aren't playing a top tier team...

At least the Cavs have had some young players to hang their hat on. The Lakers have no one and can only hope they land a real player with their lottery pick. They are truly terrible and it is hilarious watching/listening to the Laker honks in this city panic.

I have a few friends that are Laker fans (like actual ones) and they said basically the fans, and maybe the media are pinning their hopes on getting 2 of the 3 guys between Lebron, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving. They pretty much have Kevin Love already on the team...
I'm not a huge Laker hater or anything, but I will have a smirk on my face when Boston, LA, Chicago are not in the playoffs... Maybe even the Knicks too!

Laker fans do not understand that between Kobe's new contract and Nash's contract they cannot fit a max contract onto their team. And even if they could they would then only be able to sign a bunch of guys to minimum contracts. As long as Kobe's contract is on the books the Lakers will not be able to do anything.

Lakers fans don't know what to do when they can't rip off opposing teams for junk. Seeing Dwight Howard flop and leave was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

the crazy thing is their undying loyalty to Kobe. Dr. Buss would have found a way to flip him for Harden, etc.

I can see Lebron on quite a few teams before he'd go to the Lakers. I know we said the Heat was Wade's team, but we were wrong. It's been Lebron's since Day 1. I don't think that would happen on the Lakers. It's Kobe's team and he won't defer to anyone. Heck, I don't think Kobe would even want Lebron there even if it meant a free trip to the Finals. Come on, he ran off Shaq when they were primed to get a few more titles together.
There are teams I dislike and there are teams I respect. The Lakers fall into the respect category. During all the Magic vs. Bird Finals, I was there rooting for Showtime because it was so fun. I don't consider myself a closet Laker fan, because I just couldn't do that and live with myself. I do respect them as an organization.
...but it is nice to see them being so terrible for a change.
And yes, KL is already a Laker. He's gone. Kyrie might be gone too.

Bird v Magic in the NBA finals are some of my earliest memories of watching sports... I loved both teams. They were just fun to watch.
I hated this last Celtics group though. Pierce, Rondo, Garnett, Allen, etc... Couldn't stand them. We had 2 pretty heated playoff series' with them, so that probably factored in. I just thought those guys were a bunch of crybabies about the smallest stuff. I respect them all as players, because they're all HOF bound, but I just couldn't stand them.
I can't see Lebron in LA., but I'm also the guy who said he'd never go to the Heat and play second fiddle to Wade (who at the time, was 1 up on championships to Lebron).

And I still like Karasev. I like the fact that he'll now be able to learn behind a real pro in Deng. He has been down to Canton, and I think that can help as well. I think that he'll be a veluable piece into the future.
I'll admit that I am enthusiastic about my teams. I see progress with the Cavaliers. They played a lot of teams tough before they acquired Deng. They lost games in OT. (or double OT) They were close.
Now we have a real SF, with experience. I think that he can be a part of the team going forward. In the short time he's been here, he's become stronger and stronger with each passing game.
His 1st game was a 10 point effort, with 1 rebound and no assists.
His 2nd game was a 12 point effort, with 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
His 3rd game was a 27 point game, with 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
His 4th game (tonight) was a 25 point effort, with 6 rebounds and 2 assists.
He can be a huge piece of this team going forward. Finally we have a real SF, who can knock down a shot when the creators on the team get him an open look. I think that this particular dynamic will improve as they start to learn one another, and become comfortable with what each can do, and what they each do best.
This team is still young, and inconsistent. They are far better at home than on the road. There is talent here, significant talent IMO.
We have an All Star PG. Do you debate that?
We have a legitimate 18-20 PPG SF in Deng, and one who is likely to expand upon his numbers in Cleveland. . Do you debate that?
Waiters is a plus level 6th man. He can be counted on for 12-27 per night. Yeah, that sounds a little weird, but he is a streaky shooter. When he gets going, he can be unstoppable.
Thompson and Varejao are double double guys.
These are all very good players. They can be a very good team. Yes, I believe that. Sure they can use another high end player, but this group isn't scrap pieces. (which is what you seem to think) They are still learning a new scheme, with a new defense. Scott put no emphasis on defense at all. Brown stresses defense above all. He turned guys like Hughes and Mo Williams into solid defenders. I think that he has more to work with on this team. Does it happen overnight? No. It's a process with fits and starts. Guys start to drift, and the coaches have to start pulling them back. That happens with young players. It is the way players develop and improve. It's not a straight line upward. They are over .500 at home. That's a 1st step. They have struggled on the road. That happens with young teams, especially when they lack veteran leadership. We added a veteran in Jack in the off-season. We also added Bynum, but he wasn't a leader for young players. (or any players, as it turned out) Now w have also added Deng, and I believe that he is a strong leader. I think that he will make a huge difference for this team.
I do like how you do such a marvelous job of positioning yourself. You can always be right, no matter what happens.
We miss the playoffs? Check. Yep, I was right.
We make the playoffs as a 6-7-8 seed? Yep. Check. I was right.
We make the playoffs as a 3-4-5 seed? Well, I was really close, and if you look at the separation between the teams, I really was right again.
The only way you aren't "right" is if the Cavaliers make the playoffs as a 1 or 2 seed. lol That isn't going to happen. Other than that, you're covered, or can cover yourself. Well done.

I think that the presence of Deng will help Irving in that regard. He is a legitimate shooting threat.
It will be interesting to see where we're at by season's end.

I'm still waiting to see this improved defense. i see a team thats getting worse in team defense. I think Mike Brown is a horrible coach and don't think he should get another year. But I think at some point these veterans, Deng included, need to put a foot in some asses and get people putting in effort. Defense is 90% want to. They dont look interested in it at all.
