Well ... hope we got a nice package of players in return. He wasn't really helping us this year though, and the team probably wasn't going to re-sign him anyway.

So far the only thing I have seen is that we are getting OF James Ramsey. Report is too new for details yet, I guess.

Hopefully they can get something for Asdrubal as well.

I swear Antonetti and Shapiro have a fetish for left-handed outfielders.

We didn't get back the young pitching we wanted, but we did get back a 1st round draft pick from the best drafting team in MLB who has thus far looked like another hit in their long line of draft pick hits.
At 24yo, Ramsey should progress rather quickly up the ranks if he is truly a good player. Another candidate to take over in RF in 2015 (or '16).

Already assigned to AAA Columbus.

So we're giving up on our former #1 guy for a minor league nobody. Good going, Tribe.

Masterson down with two more to go: Asdrubal, and Swisher (yeah right...no one wants the awful contract we gave him....)

we are giving up an injured, struggling 2 month rental starting pitcher for one of the top prospects in the best minor league system in MLB.
I can understand people being disappointed that we didn't get a pitcher. But, we got way more than I expected for Masterson considering the circumstances.

I've never heard of Ramsey, but then again, I don't follow minor league programs much. It did say he was a top pick less than two years ago and he was already in AA...kinda similar progression to that of Lindor.
Now, that they've assigned him to AAA, does Columbus need to make a roster move? If so, I'd suggest Lindor to CLE w/ a subsequent Asdrubal trade. I think this move is inevitable considering all the playoff chasing teams in need of some 2B help, which Cabrera can provide.

Peter Gammons @pgammo · 11m James Ramsey is a great get for Cleveland. Smart, leader, great attitude, hand/eye coordination https://twitter.com/pgammo/status/494553855347404800

yeah, he's ranked in the top10 by all the major outlets in the Cardinals system.
his progression is different from Lindor though because he came out as a college senior. Ramsey is 24yo now. but, he could potentially compete for the RF job in 2015 and, at worst, should be competing for it in 2016.
I'll take it.

Masterson should have probably taken the Indians offer in the offseason. This year has been quite bad for him. I'm sure he'll still get a good deal, but I'd bet not as good as the Indians were offering.
And maybe, the Tribe dodged a bullet by him not signing too.

They absolutely dodged a bullet, isn't he about to be 30?

The alternative would be to sign him to a long term deal, and then listen to everyone whine about why we re-signed and let him cripple our payroll (ala Jared Wright or Travis Hafner)

Everyone complains that Browns fans value draft picks too much..
The Indians horde prospects like no other...
Seems like that's worked so well...
The Indians continue to be a farm team for the other MLB teams.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Masterson consistently remained inconsistent as the years went on. No way did he merit the contract he sought.

I was one of the guys that wanted them to sign Masterson in the spring, but he has pretty much failed to touch 90mph all this year. He has to be injured.

yes, it actually has.
Santana, Brantley, Gomes, Kluber or a little further back in Sizemore, Lee, Hafner, Choo or even further Alomar, Baerga, Lofton, Omar
seems like many of our best players we have acquired via these veteran for prospect deals. and, many times the veterans we have given up were not all that good (outside Colon & Carter it was guys like Westbrook, Casey, Einar Diaz!)
our poor drafting has been what has hurt us the past few seasons. that is supposedly been corrected (we will see in the next few years), but we certainly seem to have the best young corps since at least 2005 on this team.

Not to mention, every time we seem to give a guy a big contract to keep him with the team, it comes back to bite us.

Corey Kluber for president! Last three outings:
26 2/3 innings 2 ERs 1 BB (yes, 1) 28 Ks 12 Hs 1 Shutout 2-0 record (should have been 3-0 if the bats didn't go ice cold against KC last week - though their pitcher was dealing too)
Filthy.

And tonight, he threw 85 pitches....and 16 were balls. Nuts.

I was at the game last night and it was AWESOME! Man, the guy threw 85 pitches, 16 were balls.
As much as F. Hernandez is a great pitcher, Kluber was by far the more accurate pitcher. Felix was all over the plate.
Interesting to see if anything happens in the next several hours regarding trades....

It seems like every time I put the Indians' game on, they lose. My wife and I always joke that we're bad luck for them. Last night, I couldn't resist watching that match-up and Kluber did NOT disappoint. He seems to be getting stronger as the year goes on.
Maybe getting snubbed for the All Star game put a bigger chip on his shoulder?

Well .... to be an Ace, I think you have to do it for more than a half a year.
Masterson looked like an Ace last year, then crashed this year. he was up and down throughout his career, but looked like he had figured it out last year. Then this year he fell apart.
I like Kluber a lot. I liked him last year. I am sure that he is our #1. I think that Ace goes above #1 starter though. If he finishes this year strong, then starts next year like this ..... then yeah ... I'll agree with Ace.
The one really good thing about Kluber is that he has shown growth as he has pitched in the Majors. He has had more strike outs per 9 innings each year, and has had fewer walks. For a control pitcher, he has been remarkably good at not allowing homers. he allowed 15 in 147 innings last year, and only 10 in 149 innings so far this year. He had a really nice year last year, (3.85 ERA) and has been dominating this year. OK ..... maybe I'll take that back. He is our Ace.

Apparently traded to Washington for AAA infielder, Zach Walters. Supposed to have a good bat, hope he can play 3rd.
