for what it's worth... I'd rather have neither.
So? 28-32 is pretty much a guy's prime. He's not a running back or an NBA big man.
sure... if they are proven talent. but we are talking about a guy listed 7th on the team's depth chart http://www.bengals.com/team/depth-chart.html

Only due to injury which is a concern.
But, he was stuck behind AJ, Marvin and Sanu. I doubt cinci matches.

Might have been 7th on the depth chart, but was 4th in catches (behind Green, Jones, and Sanu). The three directly above him combined for 7 catches for 67 yards.

Benjamin is a return man and your 5th or 6th emergency deep route receiver on the roster.
I watched this kid Hawkins a lot and he gets separation. This is the kind of kid that becomes a star with a good timing passer.
If Benji is a 5th or 6th option then this guy needs to be a 7th option. He's just not that good. The Bengals had "talent" at WR, but desperately needed a 2nd and 3rd option, Hawkins was a 5th at best. I'm really not understanding the love for this average-at-best WR.

Unless we somewhere land Revis and/or Byrd, this guy will be the best offseason move we've made, IMO.
I think he's waiting to break out.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Agreed. Having watched the guy play, since we are in the Cincy area, I always thought the guy had a lot of potential.
Sure hope so - haven't seen him play but he hasn't put up much in terms of numbers

This is a smart signing. Without taking one snap in Cleveland I am confident he upgrades the athleticism of the slot position. I wondered why he didn't get more reps in the Natti last season. I think he could thrive in the right situation, hopefully this is that situation.

jc this guys reminds me of our DL Hughes... very good player stuck behind some big name players that are keeping him off the field.
Just needs the right place to see more PT and flourish... lets hope it's here

I wouldn't go that far, but it could cost Charles Johnson his job, though I'm still not sure he'll make the team.

I really do hope he comes on this team and blows it up.
I was just saying that I'm concerned he's older at 28 and 7th on the Bengals depth chart and the dude is going to have a 12 mill 4 year contract.
we could sign a 4th round WR with the new contact scale for about 2-3 mill.

I just want the team to be better. Respectable, maybe even formidable...I don't care which players have to be cut for that to happen.

Understand, and the total amount is somewhat of a head scratcher, but like most moves ... the play of the player will be the final determination of the FO, just call me Captain obvious Sorry getting late for me... I get up at 3

I remembered that he was gonna be a big fantasy sleeper the year before last & after watching some videos on him I'm alot more excited about this signing. We didn't break the bank on a guy that has Barry Sanders jukes, runs good routes, & catches the ball with his hands. Can you imagine how much damage he is gonna do underneath defenses when Gordon and whatever rookie WR we draft our going deep? If not, watch the videos on him. Looks like a yard after catch machine to me.

Was really hoping for Emmanuel Sanders...a lil more proven...or maybe Nicks...if his knees Checked out fine....Hawkins is a decent backup I suppose... Pretty quick but very small...he got paid...hoping he plays well because we will need our WRS to step up if we plan on winning

The more I read about the kid, I like I like him. He is the proverbial "never give up" underdog.
Evidently the Browns had him in a rookie mini camp years ago, and declined to sign him.

If i'm not mistaken I read that if the Patriots lost edelman, this was the guy they wanted to replace him. So its not just us that saw something. I liked his highlights, like the one where he destroyed ward and our whole secondary...ugh. I'm not 100% but i think he's the one that beat haden on double move for win. I like what I see..at worst he replaces bess.

Oh goodie another midget. Whats the over/under on games played before landing on IR? Lewis Benjamin Hawkins and Manzeil can play some poker while their limbs heal.

I like this signing. This guy has good hands and gets separation. He fills the void of Bess.
If the Run and Shoot were en vogue in today's NFL, Hawkins would be getting twice that amount of cash.
He's the epitome of what was desirable in those days, which makes him a quintessential slot-guy. He's an ankle-breaker but is damned-small. I don't worry about his age at all.
If we land him the only way the money becomes justified is to see him targeted +/- the 80-times he was in 2012, and he better exceed 50 catches in the process (unless they are all for 1st downs ).
I get what we're doing with him, but it feels like a gamble. I suppose with the amount of cap-space we have we can afford to do a little gambling, especially since some of these contracts aren't exceedingly long.
***Gordon, I really didn't think you could be this stOOpid, but you exceeded my expectations. Wussy. Manziel, see Josh Gordon. Dumbass.***

Looks good to me. As with you, I don't see age as a real factor here. The guy seems more quick and shifty than top end fast. Players don't usually lose that as quickly as they can speed. I also don't think age becomes a major factor until a player hits 35. Also, he doesn't get open with his speed. He gets open with his quick first step or two and his quick cutting ability.
I don't see any reason why he can't catch 50+ balls this season if we in fact do get him, though guys like Gordon, Cameron, and possibly a drafted stud like Watkins could chip in to his totals.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Not sure Bess could leave a void; it was here all the time he was on the field. This, then, has to be an upgrade for us, especially if his routes are good. A decent route runner underneath and in the middle would help Gordon and move sticks more often. Not huge addition. If we are stronger, I am happier. Welcome aboard. Light up the scoreboards.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Bengals plan to match 4-yr, $12.2M offer sheet that includes $5,3M gtd that Cincinnati RFA WR Andrew Hawkins signed with Cleveland.

Albert Breer of NFL Network just reported the same thing, that the Bengals will match the offer sheet.

This sucks. Of the four signings, I thought this was the one that had the most value based on the money spent.
Not surprised the Bengals are expected to match it....He's a good player.

So Edelman and Sanders are out there if they still want to pursue a slot WR.

We still have Cooper. I don't know if this was a play to get Cincy to cough up some dough. If they didn't get him, they still have Cooper. If they do, they have both him and Cooper.

I do think we stiffed the Bengals on this one. 4-yr, $12.2M offer sheet that includes $5.3M guaranteed?
We may have wanted him, but having to cough up that much money has be making Mike Brown crazy!
Bengals had extended to Hawkins $1.4M, one-year tender. Now he's on the hook to pay him $5.3M! I'll take that and chalk win for Mr. Farmer already! Making a division rival overpay. Excellent strategy.

I live in the Cincy area. I've watched Andrew Hawkins(AKA Baby Hawk) play. The dude may be the fastest WR I've ever seen. He's dangrous in the open field and has very good hands. He would've been a huge upgrade in the slot. Bummed that we missed out on him. I hope to sign a very good slot guy, but if not, I like Cooper in the slot as well.

How funny would that be if the Browns target was Rey all along and getting the Bengals to match the Hawkins deal was a plot to make sure they couldn't afford to pay for Rey. I doubt it is going down that way, but that would be pretty sneaky.
Either way, I like Hawkins. Would have been a good asset.

Have the Bengals actually matched? I'm wondering if they're messing with us trying to get us to throw money at another receiver...

I think this was a win win situation for us - or at the least a no harm no foul situation.
We saw him (Farmer and possibly Kyle's nod of approval) as our slot WR to replace Bess. If you notice our FA signings have a theme. Lose Ward sign Whitner, Lose DQ sign Dansby, Lose Bess sign Hawkins.
We mad a respectable offer that he signed. It was for our slot WR.
No where in the long term plans was the Bengals looking to pay that much for their #4 WR and they have 2 Receiving TE's as well. But I guess they saw the potential he might have in our Offense so that they matched the contract. As soon as they get in cap trouble or Brown the owner in charge hates to waste money. I think he will be released in a year or so.
We will continue other options. The Edelmans thought high of probably were asking for a lot of money...when reality sets in we'll make a fair offer if not to him then others. Who knows Tate is supposedly the best slot WR out there. But his agent has sold him a bill of goods. Assume nobody has signed him...all those top names not signed yet. Means one thing: They have been told by their agents they will get a boat load of money but nobody is buying! They will all come down or not work.

I like the signing, hopefully Cincy wont match but Cincy will say there gonna match and take thier good old sweet time to decide which way there gonna go, only becuase with that money tied up in a possible contract we cant take it and go elseware, in the mean time we could lose someone else if Cincy matchs, so they will take thier time.
I dont want Edelman, He's nothing without Brady or a QB simular to Brady, and last time I looked we dont have a QB like Brady ?

Five days, and IIRC, teams normally take the full five days maybe for that reason.
