I'm not going to tear it up but your program means that all of the divisional rivalry games would be going on in the same set of weeks which would mean less compelling games during the other weeks where everybody is playing interconference games, etc..

As far as why any team should have 3 consecutive road (or home) games, I don't know. I don't see why, given the amount of time they have to put this together, that it couldn't be avoided as well.. or back to back coast to coast trips or any of that. Surely they could get those out of the schedule.

With the improvement I hope to see on our O side of the line I will cautiously predict a 10-6 season.

well Dean that's how I see it , BUT I'M GOING TO BE IN A DEERSTAND FOR SEVERAL MONTHS.

Umm, cause they've had double-digit losing seasons for years??

Yes, but things are different now. ...

I sincerely hope you are right, and that there is much reason for optimism.

I was just pointing out that there are reasons for pessimism, as well.

It's just that I've watched every SuperBowl and haven't seen the Browns in one yet. Saw all the championship losses too, and came away from them hoarse.

You just think were ganna walk into Pitt and win? Beat Drew Brees?
...

Ya know, as rabidly pessimistic as I've become in the past 20 years, first game of the year is the best shot. Of course, I remember the outcome of playing Puttsburg the first game of our return year, too. (Got to see the Brownies that year v. St. Louis with the "Greatest Show on Turf" en route to their SuperBowl win.)

Any way, if Pettine is worth his salt, a surprise on week one could work. And, a good pass rush will beat Brees.

However, I pessimistically expect an 0 - 3 start and a fired coach with a fill-in for the remainder of the season is not impossible, but then neither is 3 - 0 and Browns on a roll into the easy center of the season is theoretically possible.

Bogus? Unlikely. There's a reason the nationally televised game each sunday at 4:00 is usually a matchup like Denver vs Indianapolis instead of Jacksonville vs Raiders for example. The NFL wants the maximum number of households to tune in so they can maximize ad revenue. More viewers = more ad dollars.

This goes back to my previous post on why divisional team games are shown when the local team is blacked out. It will draw the most household viewers in the market.

You certainly don't have to agree though.

Yes, bogus because each team has a BYE week. I'm not disputing the matchups from week to week, just the stuff about the BYE weeks. Denver is, by league scheduling rules, to also have a BYE week just like Jacksonville or Cleveland. It doesn't really matter when that BYE week occurs for any team.

He got shown the door far too early.

I am absolutely NOT a fan of doing away with the bye week. These guys play a violent and physically demanding game and put in 60-70+ hour weeks every week from the beginning of camp until the end of the season.. that's what, 23 weeks if you don't make the playoffs? 5 1/2 months of that schedule is just brutal so I think they are more than deserving of just one week off somewhere in the middle... which most don't get the entire week off anyway.

Bunch of pansies! They get paid well for those long hours - and it wasn't so long ago that the players had off-season jobs when their seasons ended.

No, I have no sympathies for the pampered pansies. Furthermore, the BYE week hasn't always been and players played through injuries, etc. They say the game is safer and one of the reasons why they instituted the BYE week was to give teams the opportunity to allow players to recover from minor injuries. To me, the game is just softer, not really safer.

J/C .......

I remember when the Browns entertained a Saints team (who wound up 11-5) on a beautiful October day ....... with Drew Brees at the top of his game.

We won that game by 13 points.

We then faced down the mighty New England Patriots. We beat them by 20, and made Tom Brady look bad in doing so.

Sometimes wins come where you least expect them. Hopefully we get a couple of those, and then all of the wins we expect to boot. That's what good and great teams do ..... the win damn near all of the games they "should" win ...... and half or more of the ones that could go either way. We have 6 or 7 games we "should" win. (looking at the schedule right now) If we win 6, that leaves 10 other games. Split those, and we win 11 games. Becoming a good team is really that simple. (they should have made me coach)

Win the division and the rest should come to you.

I know, a few years back Oakland won all their division games but didn't make the playoffs. Oakland is ALWAYS the exception to the rule.

We won 2 division games (1 each against Cincy & BallsNoMore) last year. With a better defense, we can increase those totals and win games against Putzburgh too.

You make good points. Then I had to chuckle about the perspective of games we "should win".

Name me the fans of a franchise that don't mark down the Browns as a "should win".

Zero!

The only game last year that I thought we "should win" was the JAX game ... and then ... yea.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I never understand the moaning of a "tough schedule". I hear it every year no matter the team or the sport. NFL, World Cup Groupings, March Madness, Wimbledon seeding etc. Blah, blah, blah. Look...at the end of the day if a team is to make it to the playoffs or a championship it HAS to be able to beat the good teams. You can't fear playing them because ultimately playing the best will make the team better. A tough schedule should help a team improve as it will exploit our weaknesses and reveal our strengths.

Bring it on.

Its about time that our schedule hasnt been in the top 5-10 toughest by wins...

That has helped by Baltimore and Pittsburgh posting mediocre records.

I'm pessimistic by nature (and because of Browns history), but even I view this as very pessimistic ... I think we're looking at 4-6 wins.

I don't bet very often ...... but I will put money on us winning more than 2 games this year.

If we don't win 6 or more, this year will be an abject failure. (barring catastrophic injuries .... multiple and at key positions) If we win only 2 games this year, Farmer and Pettine will see a big broom ...... and hear "Next!".

Man they have all the teams in the AFC pretty much either as really good teams (11-5 or better) or really bad teams (6-10 or worse) not many in the middle. What is really surprising to me is that they have us losing to Jacksonville.

Well ...... teams with 2013 non-winning records include:

Steelers X2
Ravens X2
Titans
Jags
Raiders
Bucs
Texans
Bills

That is 10 games against teams who were .500 or below last year. That's about as easy as it gets in the NFL ..... and especially in the AFCN.
