Bridgewater played will against Florida but his defense played excellent.. they scored 33 points and the defense ran an INT back for a TD and gave him another one inside the 20... and held Florida to 20 points... 20/32 for 266, 2 TDs, 1 INT, and 5 sacks is not a dominating game.. he played well and they won but it was not an amazing performance..

Manziel played a bad game against LSU.. it was a bad game, what else can you say?

In my opinion ... this is why QBs fail so miserably in Cleveland. Being a QB is predicated on having lots of confidence in what you do. You have to trust your instincts, make throws without a second thought, and believe you can make that throw again even if it was intercepted on a good play one time.

Cleveland fans are so quick to jump down the back of any QB that has a few bad games, and you can see it right here. Oh geeze, he had a bad game. He's junk. Suddenly the QBs are second guessing themselves, thinking twice about making a tough throw, hesitating instead of making quick decisions and now it's almost a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I agree and people will say Browns fans aren't the only ones who do it and I agree with that as well but when fans start calling for the back-up, good things very seldom ever happen. All that happens is the QB starts pressing which leads to more mistakes..looking over his shoulder wondering when he's going to be yanked, etc.. While not at the pro level obviously, I've played for coaches with that mentality that will yank you for a bad play (even if the intent wasn't that bad) and it's very hard to relax and just play the game...

Luck, RG3 and Tanehill couldn't beat Weeden in college either, so does that make them busts? Also look what JFF did to Bama and LSU when he was 100% healthy.

Haters are going to hate. Fans will be fans.

Welcome to the team Johnny. Wish you nothing but the best... and hope you sit and learn for a year behind Hoyer.

Hey guys I'm brand new to this board. I'm from New Jersey but I have watched every game that Johnny has ever played in college since his very first game (huge fan) and I am so happy he landed here. I have always liked the Browns and was really hoping that he landed here. I definitely plan on attending home games, ever since I was a kid I always wanted to visit the Dawg Pound. This is such an exciting time to be a Cleveland Browns fan.

BAD idea. Perhaps I cannot emphasize the word BAD strongly enough.

Sadly, Manziel is likely to start at some point in 2014, but to march him straight out there considering the game he played in college is a sure-fire way to, at best, set his development back a couple of years, and at worst, ruin him permanently.

BAD idea.

Totally agree. If he has any hope at all we'll let him ripen on the vine as loooooong as possible. More than anything else at this point I want Hoyer to thrive. For both players and our sake. I hope the rest of the draft is dedicated to supporting Hoyer's success. OL, WR, RB. Bring 'em!

You start whichever QB wins the job. If that QB is Brian Hoyer, Johnny Manziel or even Alex Tanney, you go with the one that's earned it. Period.

Prediction: Manziel will win the starting job.

Do you think he starts day 1? Because I tend to think he won't get in til maybe mid season if we are out of playoff contention.

He's a pretty smart kid.. But in the end, it's who functions best in Minis and TC and Preseason games. That's the guy that will start.

Will Manziel be that guy, honestly, I don't know. But he's got as good a chance as anyone.

The one thing that's awesome is that we have Kyle Shanahan to work besides him on offensive schemes that fit his style.

I think the only way Hoyer doesn't start game one is if he is injured.

Give Manziel a clipboard and a year. Get him the most concussion proof helmet available. Go ahead and replace all his knee ligaments with kevlar. Opponents DE's and linebackers are going to be gunning for him. Safeties will be baiting him.

I hope Hoyer has such a great year, Manziel only plays the role of the closer in games out of reach.

We've got the Hoyer camp and the Johnny camp lining up now.

Who shot your dog?

Come on man by camp do you mean on this board...mostly I see, best ready to play QB starts. Pretty consistently here.

As for media. I don't know I watched NFL Network and the Faulk and other guys mostly were saying how great this is for JM so he can sit and learn under Hoyer as the Browns believe in Hoyer right now.

When JM is ready to step up and play NFL football with a full Playbook not a dummied down version. Then it would probably be his time to START HIS ERA!

Now if Hoyer goes down for some reason and its Young or JM...Give JM the start cause I got a feeling both will probably have to use a dummied down playbook!

jmho

Why would Hoyer be using a full playbook and Young and Johnny a "dumbed" down one? Hoyer doesn't know our new offense any better than Young or Johnny. He's had ONE mini camp in it. And I'd bet with JFF on the roster now our offense just changed at least somewhat to suit his unique style of play. Young is probably better suited to back up the new kid, as he can run.

But lets say you're right and Hoyer wins the "competition" in camp. Lets say he plays well and goes 10-6 this season. Does Johnny sit again NEXT year? The year after? At what point do we dump Hoyer and let the Johnny "era" begin?
Fans are lining up in droves to buy jerseys today. They aren't buying Hoyer jerseys. They aren't buying Young jerseys. Johnny Football jerseys are flying off the shelves today. You're a smart guy. you know what this adds up to. A first round QB we drafted and a FA guy we brought in on the cheap..... It's DA/Quinn all over again. Or at least it could be. How long before the Johnny chants start at Cleveland stadium? How many picks can Hoyer throw before the mob rips him to shreds?
And if he goes down, are you so sure the fans won't laugh and cheer? It has happened before..... The pressure to play Johnny will be IMMENSE.
Then there's the issue of reps. Johnny needs reps and LOTS of them. First team reps. If we split the reps between Johnny, Hoyer and Young(he deserves a chance too if it's a REAL competition) then no one is going to be ready come September. You pick the guy you want to go to war with and you get him as ready as you possibly CAN. Since we just moved up to take Johnny, HE is the man. And as such he needs every first team rep he can GET. Or if Hoyer is the guy they want, HE should get every single first team rep possible and Johnny gets a 3rd string designation and a clip board for the season. Yeah, that will fly in Cleveland.

The best thing we could do is call Houston and see what if anything we can get for Hoyer. They need a QB and we might get a 5th rounder for him. Use that pick to take a project QB and be done with it. Get Johnny as ready as you can and live with the growing pains. He's got a lot of love in Cleveland right now, HE could survive a slow start. Hoyer would get ripped to pieces.

Then what? We trade Johnny next year for a 2nd if we can get it? If Hoyer does so great we won't bench him for Johnny next season.....
And that's presupposing Hoyer wins the job over Young. What happens if Young wins the job?

What part of that was negative? Wanting Hoyer to have a great year? Commenting that the kid coming into the NFL as a phenom sophomore may have a target on his back? (btw...Manziel said the same thing today.)

A lot of QB's get ruined playing too early... I hope they let Manziel learn the offense and mature his game before throwing him to the wolves.

I say one thing though... IF Hoyer goes into pitt and wins the opener, it will be hard to unseat him, til the end of the season no matter how fast Manziel catches on.

No problem. I just doubt that 31 other GMs are wrong. There is a reason why Young hasn't played much since 2010. He and Thigpen were provisional signings.

Btw, I just heard the Bengals signed the homeless guy as their Director of Scouting.

Just watched his press conference... thought he handled himself well... loved where he said he's Johnny Manziel... not Johnny Football...

Also watched the Farmer/Petitine press conference... Love listening to Farmer... I don't know how we'll turn out but for some reason I have so much more confidence listening to him than Banner...

Johnny Manziel has "IT".

He has so much "IT" it has taken on name of it's own... Johnny Football.

Now if "IT" can manifest itself into a NFL Franchise Quarterback then we're in good shape for the future.

I really was hoping for Teddy, but Manziel was second in line. I am disappointed we didn't take Bridgewater, but I am very happy w/this pick.

I think Manziel is a boom or bust guy. His style lends itself to injury, especially at the NFL level. That is a huge concern. However, I think this guy's play can inspire his teammates, coaches, and even an entire fan base.

I know he is risky, but no one could have as much of a positive effect on this franchise as he potentially could.

Nice pick.

Not that it has anything to do with winning, but I read that the Browns sold 2000 season ticket packages since the pick of Manziel (probably more since I read that yesterday afternoon). I also heard radio reports that people were standing in line for Manziel Browns' jerseys at their team shop, which were strangely at the ready. I would have preferred Bridgewater, but I'm good with the pick at 22 and wish him all the best.

Just wanted to drop you guys a shout out from Texas.

We are very excited for Johnny Manziel and the Cleveland Browns! You guys are in for a treat. Until you get JFF on your team, he is viewed in many different ways. But I'm here to tell you - Cleveland is going to LOVE him. The kid has so much heart, so much passion and will go through a wall for you. I view the Browns much like A&M - passionate fans who are as loyal as they come. Just wait - no matter what your view of Johnny was before, you will quickly see what he brings. Yes, the NFL is not college, but he simply does not know how to fail. He will slay the dragons of the AFC North and beyond. He plays best when he has a chip on his shoulder.

I grew up a Cowboys fan, but now the Browns are my team. Congrats and enjoy the ride! Very excited for the Browns!
