Why do so many people pretend that the whole notion of being politically correct is a left or liberal thing?
How would I know? I think it's more of a chicken crap thing myself
I was just asking because you framed it that way.

There's a difference between making fun of browns fans and using a caricature of a group of people we literally all but exterminated many years ago.
First of all, who's we? As I have stated before, the Spanish wiped out 90% of the indigenous peoples by being exposed to small pox before they landed on the continent. I had nothing to do with any of that. Do you constantly feel guilt?

Yes, you can call people what you want and ostracize them. The problem is some people believe this to mean they can call people and ostracize people and not face any criticism themselves. For example, you can still call a little person a midget or a dwarf and it's perfectly legal. You can call a Native American a "Redskin" as well or a black person a you know what, however you will get called out on it and may even get hurt for (Rightfully so, by the way). This is the part that "politically incorrect" people do not understand.
So, I take this to mean that you advocate violence? I don't call tribal peoples Redskins. I call an NFL football team that. I tend to call tribal peoples by their tribal name. As I have stated before, the Nansemond live in my area. I call them Nansemond, and the majority of them I've seen are pale white.

"Midget" is not a medical term. Also, can I start calling people slurs if it's out of affection? Just groups of people?
I personally refused by buy Snickers bars for years after the commercial they ran with two Browns fans in the empty old Muni, but I didn't call for them to go out of business.
Missed this. Do you believe the Baltimore Ravens should be named the Baltimore Browns?
That's a reach, even for your constantly flawed logic.
My statement was simple. I took personal offense to a snickers commercial joking Browns fans after the . modell moved his team. I never called for a boycott, nor did I call for snickers to lose their trademark, nor did I call for them to go out of business. They lost my business. I still don't buy them. To correlate my meaning, I think people that don't like the Redskins name should refuse to give them any business, not advocate for the forcible name change through some legal trickery. The name 'crisis' is manufactured. Also, if we are going to be such a foolish people as to ban anything that might offend anyone, we might as well all shut the hell up and stop giving any opinions now, as someone will always be offended.

Do I believe that violence is a tool that should be used? Yes. It should just be used as a last resort and never for long. But it is a tool that should be used, again, sparingly. I'm also not saying you call your local tribe a racial slur, but I am saying, if you wanted to, you could. Our founding fathers, rightfully, said we should have free speech and you do. But that freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences. That's all I'm saying with this.

But, sticking to the point, how many Spanish teams are there in this country with negative stereotype logos?

your first words to me were that I "...COMPLETELY missed the point..." That sounds more like an insult than an attempt to have an intelligent conversation.
SO now it is my fault that you have no reading comprehension....(there is an insult if you want to take it that way) I stated a fact. YOU DID miss the point....COMPLETELY...
The issue is NOT about the "Redskin Name" the issue is whether or not YOU have the right to FORCE Snyder(or any other business owner) to change the name....just because you don't like it or are offended by it...but YOU are too fixated on the name to see what the issue really is.
Quote:
I find it ironic how some of you are going on about free speech, yet you want to gang up and criticize people who voice their opinion about not liking the Redskin name.
You again can't seem to read....I have stated MULTIPLE times that you have the right to not like it...to protest against it...to have others protest against it with you....That is exercising YOUR free speech rights....NOT ONCE have I said you could not...And you know what...go for it!!!! Heck....I might even join you....
But that is not what you want.......You and others have stated they want legislation to FORCE the name change. AND THAT is something I cannot condone nor ever get behind.
rock...you are WRONG....first don't confuse offensive with obscene....The hate groups are allowed to assemble in public areas and in the past have given plenty of hate speeches.....which is extremely offensive....But THEY ARE ALLOWED TO DO IT. (I can't say they are very successful in these attempts...thank goodness)
CHS...see above...you need to learn how to read as well.
I have stated my point...It is not my fault that some people do not have the intelligence nor the capacity of abstract thought to take themselves away from the emotion of this issue and bring up intelligent points. I'm done.......You win the battle of speaking last for I am no longer going to bring myself down to your level....If you are not going to intelligently debate without emotion...then there is no point....there is nothing I can learn from you. You have NOTHING to offer to the discussion.
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...
What's the use of wearing your lucky rocketship underpants if nobody wants to see them????

Why would Spanish teams have anything to do with anything in this discussion. You try to blame us Americans for wiping out the 'indians'. We didn't. Did the American government take territory and rewrite treaties? Yes. Was the American government fair to the 'Indians'? Not very often. Do they get special benefits that none of the rest of us do by the situation of their birth now? Yes. Should we give the Spanish and Portuguese all the land they claimed with the treaty of Tordesillas? That's in the past too.

So, in essence, if someone disagrees with you, they should be beaten up, or should have been beaten up a long time ago since they only respond to force?
Got it.
Yes it seems that the crime of assault is perfectly okay when someone feels offended.

Any time someone uses that logic, I hope they get the longest sentence allowed by law.

j/c U.S. Patent office cancels Redskins trademark registration, says name is disparaging The United States Patent and Trademark Office has canceled the Washington Redskins trademark registration, calling the football team’s name “disparaging to Native Americans.” The landmark case, which appeared before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, was filed on behalf of five Native Americans. It was the second time such a case was filed. “This victory was a long time coming and reflects the hard work of many attorneys at our firm,” said lead attorney Jesse Witten, of Drinker Biddle & Reath. Federal trademark law does not permit registration of trademarks that “may disparage” individuals or groups or “bring them into contempt or disrepute.” The ruling pertains to six different trademarks associated with the team, each containing the word “Redskin.” “We are extraordinarily gratified to have prevailed in this case,” Alfred Putnam Jr., the chairman of Drinker Biddle & Reath, said. “The dedication and professionalism of our attorneys and the determination of our clients have resulted in a milestone victory that will serve as an historic precedent.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/us-p...9789_story.html

J/C Trademark on Redskin revoked by the trademark office in D.C.: Quote:
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has canceled six federal trademark registrations for the name of the Washington Redskins, ruling that the name is “disparaging to Native Americans” and thus cannot be trademarked under federal law that prohibits the protection of offensive or disparaging language.
The U.S. PTO’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board issued a ruling in the case, brought against the team by plaintiff Amanda Blackhorse, Wednesday morning.
“We decide, based on the evidence properly before us, that these registrations must be cancelled because they were disparaging to Native Americans at the respective times they were registered,” the board wrote in its opinion.
“The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board agreed with our clients that the team’s name and trademarks disparage Native Americans. The Board ruled that the Trademark Office should never have registered these trademarks in the first place,” Jesse Witten, the plaintiffs’ lead attorney, said in a press release. “We presented a wide variety of evidence – including dictionary definitions and other reference works, newspaper clippings, movie clips, scholarly articles, expert linguist testimony, and evidence of the historic opposition by Native American groups – to demonstrate that the word ‘redskin’ is an ethnic slur.”
“I am extremely happy that the [Board] ruled in our favor,” Blackhorse said in a statement. “It is a great victory for Native Americans and for all Americans. We filed our petition eight years ago and it has been a tough battle ever since. I hope this ruling brings us a step closer to that inevitable day when the name of the Washington football team will be changed. The team’s name is racist and derogatory. I’ve said it before and I will say it again – if people wouldn’t dare call a Native American a ‘redskin’ because they know it is offensive, how can an NFL football team have this name?”
The Trial and Appeals Board previously rescinded the team’s trademark protections as part of a case filed in 1992. A federal court later overturned the ruling on appeal due to a technicality that the plaintiffs say has been fixed in this most recent case.
We will update this post with more information.

Yeah, when someone calls me a racist term I don't feel offended. I feel threatened. It's most likely that you've never experienced fear when someone calls you a name, and it's really such a hard thing to describe because it seems so out of place. I'd equate it to what women are also going through. And if you know a woman, you know she doesn't just have keys on her key chain. Again, it's really hard to explain the feeling, but if you want to know more feel free to ask and I'll try to explain it a lot better.

The current Indians are not the people that originally settled this land. There were proto-Europeans here long before the Asian migration took place. Even the Cherokee consider themselves a lost tribe of Israel, not Asian in origin.

It's no excuse to assault someone, period. And I'm sure the legal system agrees. I've seen excuses as to how "people feel" for all kinds of odd and illegal behavior. It doesn't make it either right or legal.

I don't think this is an issue that someone requires you to take "blame" or "feel guilty" for.
I don't think accepting our history means agreeing that you did anything morally wrong. I have questioned about the need to take this issue personally, which I don't think is necessary or productive.
It would be interesting to learn about native Americans' special benefits and the ways those benefits give them an advantage over the benefits we all receive. My guess is they don't have to imagine that people are always asking them to feel guilty about something.
I will ask you, how does someone asking the Redskins to change their name or the Indians to change their logo honestly effect you and your life?
As far as the Spanish thing, you introduced it when you mentioned the Spanish and their damage to the natives. Maybe I was wrong and it had everything to do with people asking the Redskins to change their name. My bad.
But now I'm overwhelmed with a feeling a guilt that our society hasn't given them this land yet.

Where did I say that I wanted to "FORCE" them to change the name? I stated my opinion about I find the name offensive. I took offense to posters saying that the reason people formulated that opinion is because they read twitter and other social media crap. Pfffttttt, more sterotyping from the moral majority.
You were the one completely missing the point.
I am glad you are done, because all you can bring are lies and insults to the discussion. These debates escalate into absurdity.

It's all part of this evil plan led by George Soros and Bill Ayers to turn the nation into a nazi socialist state. First they needed to find a Kenyan, forge his birth certificate, and then trot him out in front of the national stage. The plan needs the populace to listen to Obama, decry anything that is good and American, and put all god fearing Americans into FEMA concentration camps. Somewhere in there is a plan to join forces with the islamists to institute Sharia Law, too.

So someone using words or slurs needs violence in response to stand your ground? I don't believe any law would consider that self defense.

Yeah, except calling someone a racial slur is not the same as calling someone a butthead. It's hard to explain as you've never felt it, but it is scary when someone does it to you, because you don't know what to expect. Again, it's self defense.

Oh I've been called racial slurs and seen others who are black called racial slurs. The obvious thing I've seen as a result is anger, not fear. It's what I saw with my own two eyes and exactly what I expected.
