Just don't trade away our picks, wait until round 3 maybe 4 and grab Bryce Petty
I recently read that there are a lot of NFL executives that have Petty as a day 3 prospect. I don't get it. I think that he throws a nice ball.
Also watched some cutups of Grayson Colorado State - he throws a nice ball. Arm strength looks good but hard to tell on film. He makes some throws that he won't get away with in the NFL and has a tendency to lead his receivers into potentially big hits. If this doesn't change he will get someone killed.
He has some mobility but despite this has very poor escapability in the pocket. Best thing about him is listening to him talk. He seems to have things under control and looks like a true leader of men.
Bottom line: If you liked Garappollo last year then I think you will like this kid but a little less.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

By the way, Colorado state has this dynamic WR Rashard Higgins #82 6'2" 188# Sophomore, what a dynamic playmaker.

I'm starting to come around on drafting Hundley. His mechanics and footwork are a mess, but if he can be developed properly, he could be a hell of a QB. His arm is great, he has + mobility and I think he's incredibly smart. It may take a year or two, but he'd be a guy who I could see really turning out to be something.
I like Grayson from CSU. I have a soft spot for Carden from ECU too, although his deep ball is god awful.
Of course if I could somehow get Mariota, I'd do that in an instant. He may be the only guy who can start from day one and be very good. Winston has a lot of Manziel in him. Too much off the field stuff going on and I'm not sure how hard he will work.
Not a great year for the QB's in the draft.
Those are my 3 guys in this draft (asuming Winston and Mariotta are long gone). I look forward to seeing Carder tomorrow against Florida.
I would honestly trade away our lower 1st round pick to take him off the patriots hands instead of drafting the garbage in this up coming draft.
I can't think of a single QB that I want to draft. Winston has too many off field issues and Mariota is just a stronger, faster Manziel with a bit more intelligence. Of course I hear mariota has workaholic mentality and is very mature which, that alone, could make him worth drafting but he will never fall to us.

You can't fix stupid but you can destroy ignorance. When you destroy ignorance you remove the justifications for evil. If you want to destroy evil then educate our people. Hate is a tool of the stupid to deal with what they can't understand.

Grayson is nothing like jimmy. Grayson throws a big sloppy ball that always looks like its lucky to get there. He doesn't throw it with enough velocity to make it in the NFL.
Jimmy throws the ball lightning fast and makes extremely fast decisions and reads. I would trade Manziel, Gordon, and a 1st(bottom one) to grab him and make him the face of our franchise for a long, long time.

I don't know where he's projected. But I really like Connar Cook.. Hes like a more talented Hoyer IMO.. And yes I make that comparison mostly because of MSU.
Also really like Petty.
However. I honestly don't even want to draft a QB this year.. Unless the plan is to bring back Hoyer as the year long starter, and ship Manziel off somewhere..
Really like the idea of Glennon. But we'd have to make that move before FA.
The irony is had Manziel not started those two games, he'd have more value, but we then in turn wouldn't likely be looking to trade him..
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?
He was on the Dan Patrick show recently saying he intended to stay at MSU, but also left open the possibility that a high draft grade could change his plans. Transcript from the show:
Q: Now you are going back to Michigan State for your senior year?
Cook: "I was planning on it the whole time even before this conversation ... Who wants to leave college? College is fun, you have great relationships with people here, especially the coaches, your teammates, and I've obviously thought about it with my parents, but we're just taking it one week at a time, and as the season goes, but the main goal is to use up all my eligibility here at Michigan State."
Q: Why would you leave then? Is there a reason why you would go?
Cook: "Obviously if you are one of the top quarterbacks that are going to be picked, and you know you're guaranteed a first-round pick, I think that's one of the reasons why you would leave, but I really haven't been paying attention to what the critics have been saying, and the scouts, I'm just focused on the season , focused on winning each and every week. When it comes time to talk about it, then it's time. But looking at it, since I've been here, I've always thought about using up all my eligibility and all my years here, and finish my time here at Michigan State and never leave early.''

Not sure what his draft grade is by pro scouts, but I've read mocks that had him going as high as 13 in the first round. I think he's ranked right behind Mariota and Winston. If he comes out, IMO, he'd be a great pick for the Browns, assuming they had a viable "bridge" QB (ahem, Hoyer).
I don't like Cook. He doesn't throw a very accurate ball, and his arm strength is pretty average.
I'd rather take a developmental type guy like Hundley or Petty over Cook IMHO. Those guys are a few mechanical fixes away from being very good QBs, Cook is hampered by a mediocre arm.
I am looking forward to the East Carolina vs Florida game. The ECU Qb Shane Carden is the guy I am interested in. Looks like he has a quick release and a strong arm (though I always qualify that by saying you can't really tell on video bc of differences in video speeds).
Only okay mobility, okay escapability in the pocket. Throws a good ball with pressure in his face. Looks like he understands how to throw a guy open. Has a tendency to deliver the ball about a half foot too high way too often. Still a catchable ball but the wr has to reach up for the ball instead of easily catching it in stride.

I have yet to read anything suggesting Cook's arm strength wasn't "very good", until your post that is. Here's an ESPN article supporting that, and also stating he has very good accuracy.
Add in prototype size and being brought up in a more pro style offense than most QB's, other than Winston, and I think he's a great prospect, but to each his own.
If Hundley is there when we have Buffalo's pick, I say take him. Resign Hoyer as a bridge, and let Manziel or Hundley emerge as QB of the future. Hundley needs work, but has great talent and attitude. Johnny will have to shape up or ship out. Either way, we have a chance at having a good QB going forward. With first pick, take a WR. Second round, front seven. And sign Lupati as a free agent.
I have said this before, and I will say it again ..... I would be shocked beyond words if we take a WR in the 1st (and probably 2nd) round. Shanahan believes that he can get receivers open with scheme, and that he does not need receivers with huge talent in order to win. He needs receivers who will be in their proper place, at the proper time, and who will do what the offense calls for to get open.
I cannot see us going WR in the 1st or 2nd rounds. I think that we will go front 7 heavy in this draft.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
shanny did well with the smurfs because he was forced to do so. i believe we will draft one or two taller WR though, because i don't think gordon will be around.
tradition can only carry you so far, then you have to start winning again.
Because, I remember you being a little "up in arms" when Bitonio was picked and you clearly wanted a WR. The WR unit really hasn't changed much since last May outside of the fact we currently have Gordon eligible to play, however, that could change with a blink of an eye.
I agree with you that WR won't be a high pick. And when I say high, I mean our first first-rounder. After that, who knows? Farmer has repeatedly expressed that he doesn't view the WR position has high as other positions, so there is an added point to your viewpoint as well.
Still, with that said, I would hope we address the WR position relatively early in the draft. And by relatively early, I mean with our first four picks. I guess I'll lump the TE position in there as well, because it would be nice to have generally another receiving weapon, and Shanahan used multiple TE sets this year frequently.
We clearly have an undersized unit and with Austin an old FA, Hawkins/Gabriel essentially the same player, Gordon an unknown situation, there needs to be legitimate weapons addressed outside.
If Gordon is traded or he gets in trouble again, we will be in a rather horrible situation, which is why I consider hedging future risk with more talent......sometimes the BPA mindset is influenced because of need.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.
If Hundley is there when we have Buffalo's pick, I say take him. Resign Hoyer as a bridge, and let Manziel or Hundley emerge as QB of the future. I would not be surprised if Hunley doesnt go before either Winston or Mariotta. I had 5 Qbs with a first round grade last year. I have none this year. That was Carr, Teddy until he the horrible pro day and rumors of injured hand surfaced, Johnny, Metlenberger and Jimmy. I thought Bortles was a 2nd rounder and he went top 3 go figure.
I like Hundley...but not as a first round pick...he runs far too often...has a nice build and size for the NFL...can throw deep...his accuracy wonders greatly...and still needs a lot of seasoning...he'll be a turnover machine his first couple years if forced to play
